We are underappreciated though. Don't see what was wrong with their post.

We have about 27 percussionists in our band. 2 are in fall concert band instead of marching band, 13 are in the battery and 11 are in the pit. Our pit has 13 people in it. Our pit is crowded. Our percussion teacher had trouble having parts for everyone.

Hmm..pit wise...7 of the 13 people are guys. 2 are Seniors (non-percussionists both), 2 are juniors, 3 are sophomores, 6 are freshmen (including myself).

We live in a decent sized town...decent sized band.

*Jaw drops to about her knees*. You have 27 percusionists!!!!! 13 in battery!!! We have 17 people in percusion. 6 in pit, and 11 in battery. 2 people in the pit played oboe last year in 8th grade......they don't have any musical talent whatsoever....*hits self on head with palm of her hand.* *sigh*.

I think we win against your 152 (what's your music?). Our show is supposed to be at 180, but we're playing it at 172. At a few parts, there were 16th notes for 9 beats, followed by a trill, being played by 5 of our 7 keyboard players (including our bells, which hardly count, because they really don't play 16ths, ever). Since then, I've been cut out of that bit, but that's not important.

It is important however, that I've now been cut out of all runs that are more than two counts of 16ths. That sucks. And it pisses me off. My last one was cut last night. That was about the only thing in our show that I still find challenging, and now I don't even play it. Great. My part can now be officially declared BORING! (2nd vibes)

I am playing second vibes too. That would be fine except for the fact that they are indoor vibes. But my parts are fun, and my section leader is teaching me four mallet technique. wink

Four mallet technique is so easy. Practice alot on the wrist movements, and single stroke.

well, seems like you've got me on the tempo. our 152 section was supposed to be at 170, but our instructor dropped it so we can seguay directly to the fourth song. I still have you on boring parts if our fourth song keeps up like this. eighth note double stops with accents on every downbeat and fourth sixteenth.
P.S: our show is 'Edward Scissorhands'

I'm getting the hang of it fairly quickly. Especially since this is my first year in pit. And playing anything that you hit. wink

My school's percussion won first place top catigory for once! JEEZ! My school hates the part of the judging system where they can't give us points for playing harder music. hehe my school's known as best in VA. WOOT! and maybe the east coast...I'm not sure

Good luck! It is fun, but it is also hard work. You will get flack from the rest of the band, so just remind yourself that you play better than them. wink

The pit is not fun in general. You play mallet keyboards, typically, you move a lot of stuff, and you don't get to march...and the rest of the band doesn't like you.

Oops. I shouldn't be discouraging the freshman. x.x;;

I meant next year's freshmen because you usually enter pit in 9th grade here and either stay in for 1-4 years..or get out. Why are you entering the pit?

Because I can't play the clarinet again cuz of my ashma and i was going to switch to percussion in 8th grade but in 7th i had to take a reading lab for my dislexia( can read well not good at all really depends on your level) and we could only have two electives and we had to take pe for one elective it was required band or not and so i had to give up band and i was upset and so i am rejoin i would have sooner but we had money problems, family, and time so i can do it now so i am trying out.
