Short covering event on gold in the past week: The reason why gold prices spiked the past week was a short covering event by managed money. If you look at open interest, managed money who was short gold closed out of their positions which could have been a hedge. It doesn't mean that gold will go down because there's a lot of unknown variables, but generally when this occurs, it's the end of a trend for a commodity. -- kevin green
