Aokigahara Squire

Aokigahara frowned. The strange mirror creatures floating around them weren't anything he'd ever seen before -- but their purpose was obvious, because although it wasn't all at once, he could feel them stealing little snippets of energy, and so he called his lantern to his hands and used it as a bludgeon, smacking them to shatter the fragile things.

"At least we're even on that, then," he said, as he took a swing for one, pushing forward. He didn't feel overly tired, so he suspected he was at least getting back most of what they were taking away.

"Do you know what these are?"

Tomlin 3 - 2 (late) = 1

Tomlin heard the metallic shrieking first, and his ears flattened away from the screech. Which was probably a good thing, because the wind, when it hit, was like running into a brick wall. The first gust stopped him in his tracks. Before he had a chance to brace, the second slammed into him, knocking him head over tail. He tumbled backwards in a ginger furball down a handful of stairs before determined claws caught in a crack snaking its way down their narrow path. The blocks were already crumbling as he dragged himself back to safer ground.

He righted himself with some effort, and set out slowly forward again. Hopefully Liryn was too busy fighting the wind himself to have noticed his embarrassing near-fall.

Euporie 2 - 2 (late) = 0 1

So running upstairs was hard. Chibi Euporie frowned at the path ahead of her, trying to avoid looking at the blackness over the edge below, or the blackness stretching above. The tips of her hair whipped in her face, getting in her mouth, her nose. And then her hair was blown straight back, and the skirt of her dress too, tangling against her legs. And then the wind was suddenly so strong it puffed out her dress like an umbrella and lifted her feet off the stairs.

She landed a few stairs down, back on her butt and waaaay too close to the edge, and the wind continued to push against her like it didn’t want her on the stairway at all. But there wasn’t a path back anymore, it was all falling down!

And since there wasn't any way back, she had to go forward. She wasn’t going to let any wind bully her, she was a Superhero! Euporie set her palms on the step above her and began scrabbling her way upward again, slowly, like a rock climber clinging to a cliff face.

Tomlin - 4

Tomlin looked up at Liryn’s warning, eyes watering in the ongoing winds. At first he saw nothing, Liryn batting at the air like the kitten he sometimes appeared to be. Shadows? Tomlin narrowed his eyes, slowly picking out the shifting shapes in the air. There were masses of them, like flies around garbage.

“Wraiths,” he hissed.

He knew he was right as first one then another zoomed straight through him, leaving him dizzy and faint. Draining him. The damned mirror…! They needed to get to whoever was controlling these things!

Tomlin slashed about with teeth and claws, struggling catfully to keep pace with Liryn.

Euporie - 1

After teetering close to the edge, and the gruelling climb under the barrage of winds, Chibi Euporie was already much too tired for weird ghosty-things. On a normal day, she would have busted them for sure, but after everything that she'd been through since sticking her tongue out at a mirror, she could only throw her hands in front of her face in weak defence.

The barely-visible things swooped around and straight through her, ghosts for sure. They weren't scary exactly, but they wouldn't stay away. If she slapped one away, a bunch more came crushing in.

The adventure was suddenly all too much.

She was soo tired. And she didn't know where she was, and where her friends were, and the Negaverse was mean! This wasn't fun anymore.

The little girl burst into exhausted tears, only the pressure of bigger bodies around her keeping her moving forward.

The splintering sound suddenly changed from behind them to above them. Huge shards of mirrors began to be flake off of something above them. In the darkness, they hadn’t seen it before; even now, it was too dangerous to try and look up. A wall of black smoke concealed the source of the shards, but the group could see enough to know they should be worried. The large shards curled and twisted as they fell, mutating into strange shapes before they plummeted into the platforms below with great force.

The wraiths scattered instantly, but it was barely a relief considering this new challenge. The falling debris could cause damage to anyone it hit but at least they could move to try and dodge it—the pathways? Not so much.

The mirrors, shards and strange shapes and all, began to crash into all three pathways, sending huge portions crumbling below. It seemed like there’s no avoiding it; they were losing their pathway, but they might still be ale to keep their life!

…For now.

Quote:
Huge chunks of mirror are falling like meteors and crashing into the pathways. You need to do what you can to survive and worry about the rest, later! Roll one ten-sided dice to determine how your character progresses!

1-3: You aren’t fast enough to escape some debris; the falling pieces are strong enough to pelt you like small rocks, causing bruises. Some larger pieces have the ability to slice or cut, but damage is up to the player! You wind up slowed down by the falling debris and tumble off the path as the ground crumbles beneath you.
4-7: While you are hit with falling debris, you realize you have gotten fairly lucky. You manage to escape without more than a bruise or scratch (unless you choose to take more damage), though the ground still crumbles beneath you. You are thrown off balance and topple towards the blackness below.
8 or higher: You manage to avoid the falling debris (unless you choose to take any damage), though the ground below you has splintered and crumbles beneath you. You manage to keep your balance, but still fall downwards.

Rank Bonus: Depending on what stage your character has reached, you may add the following bonus to your roll! This bonus will apply for every prompt! Civilians are the only faction that is disadvantaged by this, but due to the draining of Mirrorspace they are not as effective in this domain as powered characters! Sorry, civs!

Civilians: -1
Cats (in Mauvian Form), First Stage Characters: 0
Youma, Cats (in Humanoid Form), Second Stage Characters: +1
Cats (in Senshi Form), Third Stage Characters: +2
Fourth Stage Characters: +3

Please keep a tally of your total points in bold red at the bottom of your post! If you miss a roll, you can make it up, but any late roll will have two points deducted from the number.

If your character is sticking with a partner or group and your dice rolls would force you to separate, the player with the highest roll can choose to sacrifice points on their roll to lower them to the same path as their partner. For example, if your partner has a total of two and is forced down path a, and you have a total of five, you would need to sacrifice two points to put you at the 1-3 roll tier. This can be indicated with an OOC note to inform us what you are doing, as well as applying the deduction you voluntarily claim in your character’s total!

Super Sailor Adria

Adria seemed even more determined to keep her safe after she said she was willing to fight the wraiths. “I don’t know if that’s a good idea!” he replied, worried that if he put her down to attack the wraiths one of them would just knock her over—or, someone would accidentally kick her off of the narrow path.

That wasn’t all he had to worry about though; even as the wraiths disappeared, things only got worse when things began to crash down around them.

He drew Lace as close as he could, just trying to keep a good grip as he ran as fast as he could.

In the end, speed didn’t matter. A giant slab of mirror crashed down in front of him and shattered the path before him. The path behind him was in no better condition, and no matter how much effort he put into his jump, it didn’t get him very far.

He managed to keep his balance, but it didn’t stop him from falling. He managed to stay upright and just tried to keep Lace close—or at least as safe as he could manage.

“I’m sorry!” he blurted, desperately looking for something to cling to or catch their fall.

Super Sailor Caia

”I’m going,” Caia promised, but he wasn’t moving fast enough. He tried, but there was no avoiding the debris the fell. The first chunk that hit him was easy to brush off, but the second piece of glass sliced into his arm with enough ferocity that he exclaimed and, for a split second, loosened his grip on Theodore.

He seemed alarmed and tried to grab the cat, but with the ground crumbling beneath him he didn’t even have any ability to ground himself to do so.

“I’m sorry!” he blurted, trying to regain his grip on the Mauvian. The debris was large enough to cause damage to him, much less a small cat, and he seemed frantic to try and protect him as best he could.

Hvergelmir Knight of the Cosmos

Fear and adrenaline were, it turned out, very good motivators. The ceiling -- was there a ceiling? -- began falling, and Hvergelmir had to scramble to dodge crashing mirror chunks as she ran. She was doing well -- but still, the falling debris was striking the path underfoot, hastening its structural losses. Gradually, the ground beneath her broke apart entirely, and began to fall, taking Hvergelmir with it -- riding a falling chunk of rock downward like a fractured surfboard.

She hoped for a soft landing.

Captain Quartz

Quartz regretted taking the high path as it began to fall away beneath him. Chunks of overhead debris cracked down around him, dismantling the floor; Quartz dodged what he could, and struggled to keep his footing for as long as he could. When the floor gave way entirely, he wondered if there was any point in trying to balance himself just for a more dignified fall.

Lieutenant Strengite

Almost as soon as the attack had started it ended. The critters that had swarmed like demented ghosts scattered as a splintering sound echoed from above. It was like they knew something bad was about to happen so they flew for their lives. Strengite’s guess was proven right moments later when stupidly large mirror pieces fell from the sky. She liked being surrounded by reflections of herself but not like this. Not when her beloved mirrors were projectiles that were trying to squish her like some twisted metaphor.

As the pieces fell, a few smaller pieces pelting her, Strengite realized that there would be no saving herself as large chunks were crumbling the path with every passing second. If she was going down she was most definitely going to take the blonde chick out with her, and make sure Buttwings knew about it.

“Hey, hot stuff!” She shouted out as she took a few rapid steps, deliberately distracting the order duo as she reached out with a hand that sported a few slices from where the mirrors cut into her. With a grin and in one rapid movement she gave the girl a shove, watching as she teetered then toppled off the failing path. “Now that's what I call satisfying.” She completely ignored the rather mean word the girl was yelling as she fell into the dark smoke swirling below them and once more blew Chaldene a kiss before deliberately stepping backwards off the path into the darkness below.

Antares

Antares was trying to hurry Chaldene along even as she continued to struggle against the wraiths when something above them made a rather disturbing sound, like glass shattering. Next thing she knew the wraiths were gone but were replaced by falling debris. Large, razor sharp mirror pieces, both large and small, were falling all around them. She was luckily able to avoid the bigger pieces, only receiving a few light scratches that barely drew blood, but what was worrisome was ginormous pieces that was destroying the path even faster than it had been crumbling by itself. “Go! Get-” She was going to say more when a rather crude shout of ‘Hey, hot stuff!’ had her glancing backwards towards the negaverser that had remained behind them this entire time.

Before she could even glare at the woman she shoved Antares right off the path. It happened so fast! She didn’t really even get a chance to take a swing at the witch. All the blonde senshi could do as she fell was vent her frustration. “You b***h!” Her shout fading as fell, ending all together when she passed into the black smoke that veiled the void from sight.

Mlinzi

Mel’s tail twitched slightly at the muttered thanks Lacerta said as she got back to her feet and started to move again. He liked being praised, almost as he liked pets and fish and weapons and mystery shows, but he also didn’t want to get too distracted since he was still taking out wraiths for as long as they came close. He even did his best to keep them away from the senshi, she didn’t seem to handle them well and was moving really slow. They needed to go fast though. The wraiths weren't helping any either.

When they suddenly scattered back into the darkness it only gave Mel a moment of relief before the world started to crash down around them…. Literally. Mirrors were falling everywhere. Big ones. Small ones. Slivers and hunks. Like someone blew up a mirror store and then dumped the remains in over their heads. It was one messed up rain. A rain of mirrors! Or would it be a blizzard? A hail storm? Typhoon? Overall it didn’t matter what it was called because it didn’t change what it caused, the rapid destruction of the stair.

He had just enough time to see Lacerta tumble from the path as it broke under her before he too lost the battle with the crumbling path. Even as her cry was cut off his own yowl of surprise filled the space as he once more dropped into midair. Cat’s weren’t birds! They weren’t meant to fly! Not like this!

Arthur Quinton aka Quinn

Quinn’s fight with the mirror wraiths ended abruptly with the bone chilling splintering from above. It sounded like a massive pane of glass shattered, or ice cracking. Either way it didn’t bode well especially when the little ghost ******** scattered back to whatever hell they spawned from. He didn’t have much chance to breath though before the danger became apparent with the fall of mirror peices put their lives in imminent danger. If one of those things hit them they would be done for, as it was Quinn was barely able to avoid the bigger pieces as he raced up the stairs, dragging Rae along with him, or rather trying to. The stairs were falling apart just as fast as the Mirrors were slamming into them.

He let go of her for one moment, for one split second when he used his arms to protect his face from a rather vicious looking shard shattered right in front of him. Pieces of glass sprayed everywhere, slicing into his arms like there was no tomorrow. His clothes protected the majority of the rest of him but boy did it do a number on them. It wasn’t the clothes or his now bloody arms that were what caused Quinn to curse. It was the rapidly widening hole that the shard had punched through their path. One he wasn’t able to backpedal away from fast enough. “s**t!” It was the only thing he could get out as the ground gave way and he dropped into the blackness below.

Jeremy

‘Slower’ wasn’t really an option. Jeremy could understand her fatigue, but he couldn’t allow it. Instead, he slowed for only a split second before he let go of her hand. Instead, he reached behind him, gripping beneath her thighs as he heaved her up onto his back. “Wrap your arms around my neck if you can.” If she couldn’t, he’d just do his best.

He was able to make his way out from the weird ******** ghost things, but it took only a second to register that they were fleeing for another reason. A chunk of debris nicked his shoulder and he realized they’d have to move even faster.

But, no matter how fast he went, it wasn’t fast enough. A large chunk broke the ground in front of him and behind him, leaving him nowhere to go but down. He managed to keep his balance and his grip on Anne-Marie, but if she’d been self conscious about her robe before, he didn’t want to think about what she was feeling now.

“Hold on,” he insisted again, but he wasn’t sure what purpose there was for her holding on if there wasn’t anywhere for him to go.

Faustite, Captain

The draining slowed him greatly; Faustite stumbled against the wind and pitched backward with his lethargy. The world spooled out in exhausted stars. His gaze swam with unbidden darkness, blots of black threatened him —

Struck him —

Splayed him out across the floor. The strike to his temple throbbed; the blow to his thigh ached. A tinny, metallic thrum sounded with a third blow, striking the system of pipes that claimed his back. The pain reached intolerable heights - the reverberation alone stole his breath away, left him to wollow in a sea of his own pain. Faustite bit back cries better saved for death. He writhed beneath the aching muscle, the bruised bone. Beads of blood welled up around one of the pipes, threatening to bloom into his uniform. Smoke leaked from antique brass.

Paralytic pain slowly departed, leaving him wasted on the floor. He did not have to wait long; before he could recover what little energy he retained, the path opened out to whisk him away.

He would know nothing but smoke.

Ochre, Corrupted Eternal Senshi

"Well, I mean…" Ochre paused and pretended he was searching for words. "They're like…"

Ochre feigned his own temporary distraction by grabbing at the last of the creatures. It passed through his fingertips unscathed - perhaps better for it. Aokigahara himself contended with his own in much the same fashion. "They're sorta like youma but not. Someone out there is telling them what to do, and they like… Attack us. Kinda. I mean, you felt it, right? They drain energy. And then they take it back to this, um, special place where they have all kind of crystals. And then they just put the energy in the crystals like they're supposed to. By, uh… By passing through it. Like they're passing through us. And then they go back out and do it again.

"But you can kinda dust them like youma. And then they get regenerated in this special area with all the crystals and come at people agai— n— uh— s**t!" Ochre broke off his explanation when whole chunks of structure came down toward them, each piece striking the ground with unchecked fury. Ochre sidestepped what he could, and while a few pieces clipped him, the rest impacted harmlessly into the path.

Except the errant chunks finally broke up the structural integrity to the path and that, too, began to fall out from beneath them. He spread arms for balance, searched frantically for a path outward. But all around them, the sole locale crumbled without hesitation; searching for a last bastion against the disaster proved futile. He jerked back, stumbled. He reached for better purchase.

And yet, with all that effort, he was sent into darkness.

Whisler

Snorting, Whisler leaned down, kissing the top of Alya’s head, grinning slightly despite the still growing weariness that was still threatening to engulf him. Though, suddenly the wraiths all scattered and he brightened slightly. “See, there we go, now I can worry about you and not me.” Of course, it was after saying this, that Whisler noticed the tinkling of the mirror shards falling from above and he yelped, trying once more to protect Alya. “God Damnit.” The scratches that he got didn’t seem too bad, but everything changed when the floor crumbled.

“Alya!” Whislers grip on the blonde tightened as they began falling. “...Alya I love you...I’m sorry I couldn’t keep you safe...I…” He felt his throat tightening and tears filling his eyes. “I’m sorry.”

Danny (-1)

There wasn't enough time for recovering, sadly. As soon as the ghost-like creatures finally decided they'd had enough fun terrorizing the group, a low rumble through the room (cavern? empty void of space they occupied??) had Danny looking to the sky with panic in his eyes.

"Come on, Kat, we've got to get out of here." The young man started yanking on the exhausted looking girl - there wasn't enough time to be a gentleman about it. Had he the energy, he might have tried picking her up but at the moment, Daniel McKay was simply doing well enough to stand on his own two feet, much less try to pick anyone else up.

Rocks began to crash down around them and he did his best to dodge - but how did one dodge the unknown? Pebbles turned into rocks turned into what felt like miniature boulders as they crashed into his shoulder, his arms and then, painfully enough, one smack on the back of his head.

Dazed, he toppled forward, hand struggling to keep hold of his coworker's. He'd just found her, he wasn't about to lose sight of her again, not when ---

The rest of his thoughts disappeared, along with the bruised and bleeding blonde, as he disappeared into the void with a horrified expression painted on his face.

Kari

Kari had just gotten away from the energy sapping creatures and had thought for a moment that she was in the clear, when the sky began to fall…or at least that’s what it looked like. The senshi covered her head with her arms, but it seemed as though none of the sharp mirror shards found their way to her at all, and she breathed again.

…at least she did until the ground cracked out from under her and she began falling.

…It was almost funny. She had been so ready to jump from a bridge just a few weeks prior…but the fact that she was falling now…

…there was more regret than she had figured on there being.

…Oh well.
