Ambra looks over to the other side of the barricade to make sure there is no nasty surprise waiting for her feet when she jumps over.

((7 perception check.))

Ambra sees no immediate hazard awaiting her; however, the cavern veers left just past them and you cannot see around the corner yet.

It might be worth noting that the barricades' pointy bits are a bit high up; they would probably catch the two men in the chest, and you and Mercy above the shoulders and you just barely. You suspect someone the size of a gnome or halfling (or goblin) would not risk injury beyond tripping themselves if they tried to hurry through. But as long as you take it easy (move as if they were difficult terrain), you could simply squeeze or crawl through. They were heavy'ish but not bolted or tied down, so the bigger party members could just force them aside the necessary inches to get through.

The eladrin would carefully examine the situation. "It seems to me that first Thork goes through, so he can protect Mercy and Ambra as they go through, while I guard this side. When I'm through, we'll see where to go from there."

Once again the little Avenger followed along in silence, keeping a careful eye out for danger and steering them away from it when it was found. Including when they arrived and approached, tempted as she was to smash through the barriers, and instead speaking quietly.

"A good plan. Just be careful, and quiet. I can hear talking from here." she responded, taking up her place in the group and ready to pounce on any hostiles they see.

As told, Thork lead the pack.. (Check breath... )

So... Thork. Just past the barricades, the entrance into this cave goes on for about... fifteen feet, give or take, before it veers to the left. A Goliath would have difficulty traveling in here, but you can just fit (just don't practice your jumping jacks). It can fit about two of you abreast.

How far in do you go?

He gos to the corner, and peer s around it.

To do so, I'll have to trouble you for a Stealth check. At this proximity, you hear the voices Mercy mentioned so you would know someone is around. They are definitely not speaking in a language you understand.

Stealth check of 6

As the rest of you watch, Thork's curiosity seems to get the better of him. He turns to go peer around the corner, and the rest of you see his pack has been caught on one of the wooden barricades! He doesn't seem to notice and as he moves toward the corner, he begins dragging the barricade with him, with a loud
KKKCCCCCCRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
behind him as wood dragged on stone.

Thork, if you do decide to still peek (despite someone very noisy apparently trying to hold you back!), you see three goblins with hand crossbows at the end of a hall, about fifty feet long. You see no doors, but there is a hatch at the far end on the ground. They are silent and looking right at you. Then they quickly go for their d20s so they can ROLL INITIATIVE!!!

ROUND 1

20 - Aelgeirr
18 - Ambra

17 - Goblin 2
16 - Thork, 6 damage, pack snared on barricade
15 - Goblin 1
14 - Goblin 3

4 - Mercy, 1 damage

--------------------

Now that I have the map up...

The hall around the corner is about ten feet wide, and is about sixty feet long from end to end. One of the goblins is standing by a lever, you notice. He specifically look like he'll be going for that and not immediately loading his crossbow. The floor is messily tiled, as if a half-hearted attempt at making this place look half-decent; you suspect the goblins did so themselves. The walls and ceiling of this short tunnel do seem natural, however, but the end of the tunnel does seem to have been reworked some, as the ceiling and walls were smoothed over.

Thork, the goblins don't seem impressed. It could be that you startled them, it could be that they have standing orders, it could be that you look like a freakin' orc... you're not sure. But they aren't throwing down their weapons.

Aelgeirr, Ambra, you're up first! You currently have the barricades in your way; they will count as difficult terrain to navigate around, but you will take 1d6 damage for every square you move through. However, if you shift, you take no damage. From the edge of the barricades, Mercy and Ambra both can spend two actions shifting to the spot Thork opened up for you.

The dangerous bits are aimed more as a deterrent for taller-than-goblin humanoids from charging in, so a crawl action would also suffice (free to drop prone, and you can move half your speed), with no risk of damage.

Given Thork's failed attempt at negotiating something with someone, Aelgeirr would draw his throwing axe and *BAMF* just behind the Half orc

OOC:
Action: Move action to use Fey Step to go to L3
Minor action to draw throwing axe
Standard action: Rolling insight to position himself to avoid goblin bolts.

Ambra, uncomfortable with the idea of having barricades block their escape, decides to eliminate them. She launches a ball of fire in an attempt to destroy them.

Standard action: Ambra casts Scorching burst on K6, 6 fire damage to surrounding barricades.

ROUND 1

20 - Aelgeirr
18 - Ambra

17 - Goblin 2, Readied Action
16 - Thork, 6 damage, pack snared on barricade
15 - Goblin 1
14 - Goblin 3

4 - Mercy, 1 damage

0 - Barricades - 11 damage, Ongoing 5 fire damage

--------------------

Aelgeirr jaunts from outside the cave entrance to within, and from his vantage point, is able to catch sight of the gobbos who you just intruded upon. They definitely don't look like they want to talk, and you get the impression, militarily-experienced as you are, that they are guards, ones likely instructed to shoot intruders on sight. Since they are barking comments to each other in Goblin rather than responding in Common, they likely have no interest in anything you lot will have to say.

Ambra, you magically combust some of the barricades at the mouth entrance; despite how sloppily made they are, they are still somewhat sturdy. On the other hand, they are made of wood. The barricades remain for now, but you suspect a second blast (perhaps with a bit more oomf than minimum damage) will cripple the ones you damaged, removing them as obstacles.

But for now, they're on fire! That'll make things tricky if either of you wanted to squeeze in before they're destroyed (a d6 extra fire damage, even if one shifts), effectively splitting the party!

The goblin closest to you guys moves back to the far corner, and readies his crossbow, taking aim at the corner, not yet taking a shot due to full cover.

Thork, you're up!

ROUND 1/2

20 - Aelgeirr
18 - Ambra

17 - Goblin 2, Soiled
16 - Thork, 12 damage
PORTCULLIS CLOSES ON ROUND 2
15 - Goblin 1, Soiled
14 - Goblin 3

4 - Mercy, 1 damage

0 - Barricades - 11 damage, Ongoing 5 fire damage

--------------------

Thork would rush in, glaive at the ready, though he would hear a rrrrriiipp! and the sound of his belongings being dropped onto the floor. You can minus a backpack from your adventurer's kit, Thork.

After charging, he would take several mean swipes at the nearest goblin! It was apparent that he had little to no experience fighting someone so much shorter than himself before, as both attacks missed by mere inches over its head. Regardless, he was confident the goblin did, in fact, poop himself.

The goblin that had readied his action takes a shot at the Half?-Orc, though with his natural one, he apparently also feels the danger this glaive-wielding maniac poses, and decides to instead also poop himself.

Goblin 3 sighs in embarrassment, before putting himself up against the other corner, and taking a shot with his own weapon at Thork. Apparently the most adept of the three, his bolt impacts Thork's arm for 6 damage!

Goblin 1, despite the danger before him, pulls the lever beside him, then quickly dives back a space. Thork, this isn't a shift, it's a 1-space move, so you get an opportunity attack! Fairly quickly, a wooden portcullis begins to drop from the ceiling, sectioning off the goblins from the rest of the hall!

The portcullis will close at the start of Goblin 1's next turn! If anyone wants to get to the other side before that, a DC 15 Acrobatics check from an adjacent space will be required! Afterwards, they will have partial cover from all piercing weapons and full cover from all other weapons; ranged piercing weapons from adjacent to the portcullis do not suffer this penalty. Magic attacks (any attack with the implement keyword) suffer from partial cover as well.

Mercy, you're up! The barricades are en fuego! Aelgeirr, Ambra, you follow her on actions.
