Misa didn’t know what the small Pokemon wanted. Squirtle dropped the objects on the ground but kept a hold on the broken ball. ”Is that a Pokeball? Misa already had a plan to devolve Charizard into a Charmander so that it could start over new, so that it couldn’t be recognized by the Professor. Once she had some time for Charizard, maybe some time during her venture towards the Grass Gym Leader, Misa would devolve it. The same can’t be said of Squirtle though. If Misa decided to catch Squirtle there was a chance that this Pokemon would run into its previous Trainer. She still didn’t know what sort of relationship those two had but it ended up with Squirtle becoming a Wild Pokemon.

From her point of view, it looked like she was being selfish by telling Squirtle that it wouldn’t be able to fight in the upcoming battles. Honestly, most people competed in these battles because they wanted to test their might against Gym Leaders. Not Misa though, she wanted to show how much they had grown. All of this were for selfish reasons, selfish reasons that she knew weren’t necessarily right. But the girl did want to go on a journey with these Pokemon because it helped her get to know them more.
