Andarien spent those days much as he always did. Working on designing new things (and asking Eron's advice for ideas, both for new things to make and how he might be able to decorate them). Training with Kaito (which always left him frustrated and a few times angry enough to throw things). Lessons with Shoneah about pressure points which always caused him pain, but with the knowledge that he gained from it, it didn't frustrate him like his lessons with Kaito did.

And then of course there was training with his Pokemon. The training went well, and when he wasn't working with the others in lessons, he spent all his time with the Pokemon. He would occasionally speak with the others about things, but he did tend to keep to himself.

Not that that was unusual.

"So, Andarien..." Eron murmured after watching the boy (young man) spend time with his Pokemon, "How are things going with training?"

He figured that was a safer thing to ask, he noticed how Kaito and Andarien interacted. While he didn't quite approve of how Kaito taught, he did feel it spoke a lot about how Andarien handled his own emotions.

He was pretty sure by now that Andarien didn't see things the way other people did. Not that the boy was innocent by any stretch of the imagination, but there was a very cause and effect viewpoint. Andarien also seemed to have trouble expressing his feelings, or at least it hadn't occurred to Andarien to maybe talk to Kaito about his teaching methods.

Goodness knows, if Eron was right, he was tempted to talk to Kaito about his teaching methods.

Andarien had been walking back to his and Eron's tent after a training session with the Pokemon, and Eron's question distracted him just long enough for Kaede, whom he had been carrying, to jump out of his arms and run off to join her siblings.

It took Andarien a moment to think about how to answer Eron's question, and then he realized he wasn't quite sure what Eron was asking him.

"Do you mean me training with Kaito?" he asked, confused. "Or my training of the Pokemon?"

That was his fault, he should have been clearer.

Eron replied, "Training with Kaito, I know I watched, but I'd like to get your perspective on it."

Really, Kaito broke every rule and then some in Eron's own personal set of teaching rules, but since he was just a chemistry teacher, he didn't know if training in the martial arts was different.

"Ah." Andarien thought about it. It took him a moment, since he was a bit tired from training the Pokemon, and his mind had been elsewhere just a moment before. He chewed his tongue as he thought about it.

"I think I'm getting better," he said at length. "I've never been good with weapons. When I was little I couldn't even hold them right. But I've been working with Kaito for about a year now and I think I'm starting to get somewhere."

Of course he had no idea that Eron was looking for something deeper.

It was a bit amazing that after all that, there wasn't a bit of resentment in Kaito's teaching methods. Eron wondered if Andarien would even remember the reason why he was learning pressure points from Shoneah once he was done.

"Well, I think you're quite good for your age," Eron offered, "I didn't know you've worked with Kaito for so long..."

He paused a bit and then asked in a manner fitting only for an outsider.

"Is he always like that when he trains you?"

Andarien didn't know what Eron meant about being good for his age - age didn't have anything to do with anything, he thought - and he wasn't entirely sure what he meant about Kaito being "like that".

"I ... guess?" he replied hesitantly. "I mean ... it's good to make me do things over and over again, right? Practice until it becomes natural."

He shrugged. "Maybe he's a bit of a jerk but that's just him."

"Do you think he's a bit of a jerk?" Eron asked.

It was interesting how quickly Andarien forgot, which was good, it probably meant he didn't view what happened before as important. However, if that was the case, then he tended to overreact greatly.

"Well ... yeah," Andarien replied, eying Eron as if it was something obvious. "He's supposed to teach me but he could be nicer about it. But I think he's a jerk to everyone sometimes. Shiro whacks him a lot, too."

He grinned. "Shoneah's helping me too, now. She's showing me pressure points like Kaito was showing me, only she shows me how to undo it too. Kaito just made it hurt and then left."

Eron had to admit, even to a normal person that is jerkish behaviour, but he wondered if perhaps Kaito wanted something out of Andarien.

"Not that I disagree with that being jerkish behaviour," Eron began.

Though he did notice the others didn't take it as poorly as Andarien, but they were probably use to it and probably would happily whack Kaito in turn.

"But why haven't you asked Kaito why he did that?"

Actually, Eron would like to know why Kaito did that himself.

Andarien blinked at Eron. He opened his mouth to reply, but nothing came out, and then he closed his mouth and blinked again.

"I ... never thought of it," he admitted. "I guess I thought he did it to teach me." He frowned. "But ... he is doing it to help me, isn't he?"

After all, if he wasn't then his parents wouldn't let Kaito keep training him, would they?
PostPosted: Sun May 11, 2014 7:31 pm

"But what is he teaching you, or better yet," Eron decided that maybe Andarien needed a push in the right direction.

That is, if his theory was right, he wasn't quite sure.

"The question is, what does he want you to do? He used a pressure point on you, but he couldn't have known Shoneah knows pressure points as well, so what do you think he wanted you to do, or learn from having it done on you and then him walking away?"

Eron was sure, Kaito wanted Andarien to ask questions. Perhaps even pursue information outside of what he was being taught, instead of having the lesson plan always given to him. It was important that students tried to improve themselves on their own time, but how to get a student to do that was always the million dollar question.

Andarien stared at Eron blankly. "Uh ... well ... I think Mi said something about defending myself if I don't have a weapon ..."

Aside from that, his only thought was that maybe Kaito wanted to see how angry Andarien could get.

Of course, he had no idea that despite his apparent cruelty, Kaito did have good reasons for teaching the way that he did.

Eron nodded, he also noticed how Miyuki at times often had to explain little social nuances. It was actually kind of interesting, because she didn't seem at all put out by it. It just became something that Miyuki was use to.

"Can I ask you, and you don't have to answer if you don't want to. What did you first thing Kaito was doing, why did you think he was doing it the first time he did it before Miyuki said it was to teach you how to defend yourself without a weapon?"

Once again, Andarien's mouth opened and closed without him saying anything, and he had to think about it. He had the feeling that this should have been an immediate, instinctive answer, but he simply didn't have one to give.

"Because he's my teacher," he finally replied, blushing and shrugging. "I guess ..."

He just didn't know, hadn't considered it.
