"It's just not your day, pussycat," Hel hissed, tensing and causing his muscles to quake as the ominous sounds of their 'monster' echoed across the thicket. As soon as they'd moved the cheetah, he leapt out of the way-

And barely missed getting pummeled by the elephant's trunk. His ears lay flat against his skull as he watched one of the others get bowled over by it, and he slunk back to the rest of the group that hovered around the newly-freed cat. He didn't particularly have any combat skills to offer, as Resident Coward, so he did the next logical thing.

"We need to get her out of here," he called. He was pretty sure he couldn't drag the dead weight fast enough without some aid from the others. Plus, if he helped move HER out of melee range, that left HIM safely away, too.

((Aah, work's eating my muse crying STOP EATING IT, WORK!))

As soon as the rumbling beast came into view, Moshi dove, eyes wide with panic. Where had this thing COME from?! And why was it so angry?! As he moved, the trunk connected with his body, sending him flying. When he landed, Moshi groaned, pushing himself up. Oh that was going to hurt later... He wanted to be somewhere he'd NEVER encounter an elephant again!

Jahina's first instinct was to dive, then it was to try and climb out of reach. Lions weren't quite meant to climb trees like leopards, though, and she was having a hard time escaping. As her claws dug into the bark of a tree, she heard the whoosh of the bull's trunk right before it connected. She let out a yowl as she was flung away from the tree, landing in another and becoming winded. As she began to slip down, she clawed desperately at the tree, trying to stay up and in it and out of the elephant's reach.

Saiorse's heart leapt as the tree lifted, she hadn't thought they'd be able to do it! But the triumph was cut short as a bull elephant tore through their little rescue operation. The lioness bolted, rolling away just short of a massive tusk. A strange snarl rippled over the lioness's face, this was what she had come for. The lioness gathered her feet under her, dodging throuh her own and the rampage of the elephant, searching for an opening to attack.

Everything was moving fast. An dodged aside as the elephant's trunk swung through like a cleaver. She could feel the sting of air just on her side. From the sounds behind her, not everyone had been so lucky. They needed to get the elephant away from the injured cheetah, and to do that she'd need to-

Hel's voice caught her attention, breaking her from her charge. Spaki and several others were rushing at the elephant. She saw a flash of white and saw Veru circling around towards the back. They were trying to distract it, leaving the injured female free to be moved.

"Alright," she gaped, joining Hel at the cheetah's side. She hoped she wasn't grabbing any part of her that was too injured, quickly scruffing her like a giant cub. Through clenched teeth she gave an ok and started to drag her to the side with the others.

Back at the elephant, the bull was clearly delighted at the destruction he'd caused. But that delight turned to rage when some of the more bolder individuals started to bite at his heels. Distracted from the ones not on the attack, the elephant slowly turned and stomped his flat foot down like a tantrum.

"Easy now," Veru said. Although he was behind the elephant, he was keeping his distance just yet. He doubted he could take being thrown around much. "You can't fight all of us. How about we talk?"

The elephant whipped around in a remarkable show of speed, and struck Veru aside. There were mumbling words that came from the beast's mouth, but they were hard to decipher. The mumbling soon became a deafening trumpet. The monster turned his head down low, looking to grab his next target.

arrow Time to go on the attack!

Roll 1-10:

Even though he hadn't been able to stop it from hitting anyone, Spaki was at least happy he and the others had accomplished getitng its attention, while the injured cheetah was dealt with.

He had to keep moving, though, and while his initial attack got the elephant's attention, it didn't seem to have dealt much damage. And oh, look, there went Veru. Spaki managed to resist watching as the other white male was tossed aside, lest he get caught as well. "Are you okay?" He shouted as he dodged around the elephant, trying to make sure he wasn't stuck in front of it. It was more agile than he predicted! He managed to stay out of reach, but though he made an attempt to attack once more, the movements of the elephant, for the time being, made it impossible. He growled in frustration, not sure how much longer they could keep this up. Eventually he would get caught.

The beast was bigger than he had anticipated, and the earth felt as if it was about to give way underneath its thundering footsteps. He was obviously very very angry and although he only had one tusk, the other stood large, pointed and incredibly intimidating. One quick fresh gulp of air saw him ready himself to fight. He went into this with the rest of the group and now he would protect them if needed. He circled the ground with his widened eyes on his target.

All of a sudden the beast brought its trunk down to collide sharply with the side of his shoulder. Baatar fell and stumbled, pain searing into his vision and making everything blur for a second. The beast had so much weight behind it, any shot would be enough to take the largest of lions down. He snarled as tried to pull himself back up, head spinning.

Hel couldn't hide the slight twinge of relief that passed over his features as An came to assist them with the cheetah. He grabbed a leg delicately in his jaws, using it to spin her around and move more of her into the underbrush. He just concentrated on moving; let the others have their battle. He was more than happy to be moving AWAY from the fracas.

Saiorse smiled, pearly whites gleaming as she bided her time. She was ready, and the creature was stupid. Perhaps not quite slow, but stupid. She circled around, slinking low in the grasses until she had made her way to the back of the massive creature. The lioness coiled, not at all unlike a snake, gathered beneath herself like a spring wound tight. Without warning, the lioness struck, arms and jaws thrown wide...

She'd landed! Saiorse sank her teeth and claws into the back of the beast, not only seeking to destroy whatever flesh she touched, but keep the crazed monster from throwing her off completely! I TOLD THESE DOLTS IT WOULD BE SIMPLE! The lioness bit down hard, snarl turned smiling as she dug into the elephant's flesh with everything she had.

She was ready to attack this elephant, it had done so much damage and she was tired of it. Of course she didn't want to kill it, but have the group hurt it enough so it couldn't cause anymore damage. She took out her claws and darted toward it, passing the other members of the group, careful to avoid them. Her attack missed. She blamed it on hesitation. The elephant wouldn't get a lucky break like that again, not from her at least.

(a bit soon to roll again, I know xD;; but I'm leaving in a bit and will only be back in several hours (like... 9, if I'm lucky) so I wanted to get one last post in first! since I bet when I get back this will have moved a couple pages 8D;;;; you can feel free to ignore this and just pretend Spaki is still just trying and failing to find an opening. <3333)

Aha! Finally the elephant was distracted enough from him that Spaki could get 'safely' closer. If approaching an elephant could ever be considered 'safe'. He rushed in as soon as he saw his chance, and bit at the beast's ankles. He wasn't in position to do more damage, but as long as he could help get the monster off balance, maybe the others could knock it down. Once that was done, they stood a much better chance.

He managed to latch on briefly, but was soon forced to put distance between himself and the pachyderm once again. There was a bit of blood in his mouth, but he wasn't able to do as much damage as he would have liked. Best keep working!

Once the cheetah was in a more secure place, Kimaji sat down by her head. There wasn't much she could do now but hope for a sign of life, and watch the fight unfold with the elephant. this was all just too much, more than she expected!

By not helping to move the log, Sandor had easily evaded the enraged elephant's swinging trunk. Others had not been so fortunate. He did not take this as a sign that he had made the correct decision - ethically he knew he had not - but he could at least argue that by doing so he had been on guard when the elephant arrived and would now be able to fight it.

That was the idea, anyway.

Sandor took a moment to observe that the elephant didn't seem to harbor much regard for its own safety, and to note where its trunk and especially its tusks were. At least one of the party had managed to get in a good strike already, which made his eyes narrow. If he wasn't inarguably the one to kill the beast, he doubted there would be any sort of reward, and then he would be in trouble for deviating from his order and couldn't even try to bribe his way to something resembling forgiveness.

When he judge the moment right, Sandor darted forward, taking a risk and racing alongside the elephant to rake it with his claws. It wasn't a killing blow, but it could turn the beast the direction he wanted it to face. Namely, away from the majority of the group. Or maybe it wouldn't. He could always try again once he got clear of the enormous feet.

Margulis heard only the thundering in her ears as she charged at the creature. Normally she would have stayed on the sidelines of the fight but in this situation that was not an option. Her teeth found their target as she attached herself to the elephant's flank, ripping and tearing as she struggled to find traction with her claws. She could taste blood but it was obviously no great impedance to the beast as she found herself tumbling back to the ground as she lost her grip. It would take much more than that to take this creature down. She still held hope that once subdued they may not have to kill it.

That poor cheetah... How could this brutish monster do something so terrible to another? She could understand some circumstances- she had been in them herself in her life! But this seemed to be random and senseless... Certainly unacceptable. The Lammergeier was unsure how much she could do, but the great beast seemed to be focused on those on the ground. An attack from above... Well, that would just have to be effective! Her bulk would come in handy for the first time on this trip. She need not hide nor hold back.

The lammergeier flew up as high as she could in a few seconds before folding her wings closer to her body, entering a dive. Just before impact, she flipped herself, sharp talons at the ready. She felt herself connect with its spine, just behind the shoulders, and she dug her unforgiving talons in as deep as she could sink them. Certainly her attack would not fell the beast- not even close- but it would be a wound that would smart, and perhaps distract from the "ground troops." She started to flap without letting go of the pachyderm, hopefully opening the wound she made a little more before she was completely airborne again, circling above the battle.

There had been a risk of her being swiped with the trunk as she lifted off (or for that matter, as she had landed) but the beast seemed preoccupied with other attackers- she was lucky. The lammergeier was uncertain that she would easily survive a strong blow from one as large as him.

Amali had continued to stay out of the center of the action, even as things began to pick up, trying to figure out what the plan was- eveen just his own plan. But there wasn't enough time, there never was. His confidence in their taking on an elephant did not translate into action- until the attack actually began.

Creeping around the outside- if you could really say there was one with something as large as an elephant and as chaotic as the fight going on around it- Amali waited until he had an opening and then he jumped into the midst of the action. He could see a lioness on top of the creature and the feathers of a bird suddenly join her, and he knew it would be too dangerous to aim for the head or neck from here, so there were few other options that came to mind. Finally, he aimed for the middle of the elephant, trying to stay aware of where all the legs were but mostly hoping to cause some damage- or confusion.
