Once both pokemon had finish their attacks Crenu looked across the field at a laughing giant, though he had to admit it was a little harder to hear him now with ringing left over from the double sound attack. Of course you didn't need to hear him to see that things were getting more serious as the look on the Lightning American's face told it all. And with that command it was indeed clear that 'play time' was over. Crenu gritted his teeth when Surge called out for a Cross Chop, one of the most devastating fighting type moves around. It was well known as the move of choice by Machamp, he never knew Electabuzz could learn it as well but it was surely just as deadly to a rock type like Pupitar. Lacking a move of that level in terms of power Crenu waited a bit until Electabuzz was close before calling out his counter. "Sandstorm straight down!" He called out and Pupitar obeyed without hesitation. The entire time he had been glaring directly at Electabuzz, it was hard to tell weather he knew how harsh the coming attack was or if he even cared as he lay ever still, but as the command was issued sand poured from his body in a whipping vortex directly below him. Maybe he knew Crenu's plan beforehand or maybe he was just that ready, but the blue hard shelled coccoon blasted high up into the air nearly being grazed by the opponent's attack as the funnel of sand tore up the air directly below him before it died down showing a level of mastery with the move he had gained since evolution.

"Hmm? Yes yes you're right of course. Split the tasks at hand, cover more ground. Ok then, I leave securing Jaeshan's pokemon to you professor, I'll worry about finding the poor dear first. Once I spot him I'll keep a safe distance and follow his movements, just call me Kenneth Breeman, P.I. extraordinare! I'll call you when I found him, you've been a lot of help. Next time you're holding a lecture near by I'll be sure to attend." Ken said with a wink as he dashed out of the lab, eager to start his new assignment. But once the man was outside he took a moment to think, and took up his marvelous cape that sparkled like the stars. "hmm....this may be a bit to noticable. I'm gonna have to change into something more...plain. ah, my wonderful fashionable clothes and awe inspiring flare, it call to my very soul and demands to be seen! But alas I must hide it for now and play the civilian, for the private eye has to blend and be invisible, yeah. A real hard boiled detective...oh I've got just the outfit in mind too!" And with that Ken went right to work. He set up his tent just outside of Sandgem and started, using his many materials and bits of outfits he carried in his large bag, it pained him but he'd probably have to mail his normal outfit home soon to make room...he might even have to mail his entire fashion bag home to be honest, he was undercover now. Oh no! Not his supplies, he needed them to be fashionable! Ah, but this was for Jae. And besides, now he wasn't Kenneth Breeman coordinator. He was... Kenneth Breeman hard boiled detective! On that note he stepped out of his tent, dressed in a suit and large coat complete with matching hat and. He turned the collar up and had a harsh look on his face, he looked like he came right out of a noir film. He was ready, he packed up and was off hot on the case.

"I'm glad you two are up for it. I'm not sure how good Gigas and I will be at battling since this is our first one, so no worries Haley." He scratched his chin thinking for a moment. "There is a park where everyone goes to battle just around the corner from here that would be the perfect place for it." He motioned for them to follow them as he headed out the door, Gigas trotting happily beside him.

Kressen was so excited, that he had forgotten that there was three of them until the park was in sight. "Oh, I don't know how I forgot there was three of us. It doesn't really seem fair that one of us has to sit and and watch the other two duke it out."

He rubbed his red hair thinking as he walked over to the park. "How's about I team up with one of you two? I only have Gigas, but you two have two or three respectively. This way all three of us can battle and no one is left out. Gigas looked up pleadingly at the two girls as if to say "Come on and choose I wanna play!"

All in all, though, the Meowth was pretty much done for at this point. It weakly lashed at Oddish again, but crumpled to the ground as the poison took its effect and sapped the last of its health away. Train knelt down and praised Oddish, taking out her PokéBall and inquiring as to if she wanted to return to the safety of the ball. The Grass-type hesitantly shook her head (well, whole body, really), and Train smiled a bit. ”Hehe, okay,~” She giggled, clipping the ball back onto her belt.

She stood up and looked down at the fallen Meowth, biting her lip. She didn’t really like just…leaving it there, all…dead looking and stuff. Not that she hadn’t done it before, with other Pokémon, but now that she had a Pokémon that had been abused, she knew what it could do to them to be treated carelessly. Thus, she carefully picked up the Meowth and moved it to a bit more of a covered area, where it was (hopefully) less likely to be disturbed while it regained its strength.

~time skippy thing~

(forgive me I have no idea what kind of persona Mr. Briney has I’m just makin’ s**t up here)

Leon was outside of the single home on Route 104, hands in his pockets. After the ******** long as hell journey to Littleroot, Leon had finally acquired a PokéDex. Hopefully this would stop him from making stupid mistakes, such as when Ghos had been battling that Tailow and the bird’s Normal-type had completely slipped his mind, making the battle a lot more annoying than it should have been.

Professor Birch had inquired a bit about Leon’s adventure, what his goals were, etc. Leon’s next plan was to travel to a city with a ferry, since neither of his Pokémon could learn Surf. Birch had laughed and told him to visit a Mr. Briney on Route 104, who apparently owned his own boat and occasionally transported trainers to and from Dewford.

And so, here he was. He guessed he was just supposed to go in and ask for a ride? He was old so maybe he didn’t care or whatever. Leon walked up to the door and knocked firmly. Sure enough, a cheery old man guy opened the door, and looked Leon up and down.

”Well howdy there sonny! What can I do ya for? He bellowed, smiling all the way up to his eyes. Leon did not return the enthusiasm as he replied.

”Hey, I heard you take trainers to Dewford sometimes. I was hoping I could get a ride. I’ve got no other way of getting there.” It was probably the most Leon had ever said at one moment.

Mr. Briney blinked and looked at Leon, before breaking into a smile again.
”Well of course! I love to help out you young trainers!”

”Thanks much, Mr. Briney.”

”Of course! What’s your name, lad?”

Kasiya would be lying if she were to say she didn't know her wide, puppy dog-eyed stare had quite the effect on others, though she didn't use it often as sometimes it made her feel a bit guilty. That wasn't the case this time, however, as she hadn't really done it on purpose but she was definitely feeling a little more relieved when Sasha promised to keep her updated on Mike's condition. "Okay, thank you," she said, nodding a few more times than was probably necessary. Being kept in the loop was reassuring and she watched with some amusement as Sasha lugged the chair out of the room. The blonde sighed and ran her fingers through her hair. Sure, it had been brushed out but it still had that gross, sweaty, grimy feeling to it. She glanced around the room quickly to see what she had to work with, figuring this area was probably more here for patients than visitors, but she wagered the staff wouldn't mind. There was a large dispenser in the actual shower stall, and the small, clear window showed that it was mostly full of some sort of very pink soap. There was also a small stack of clean, very white towels on a small shelf nearby so she took one and set it within arm's reach of the stall before she began to remove her dirty clothing, which she left in a crumpled pile near the stall just as Sasha had requested.

That odd feeling of stepping into an unfamiliar shower overcame her as she stared at the odd assortment of knobs and dials on the wall. It was far more advanced than the shower she was accustomed to back at home, or even the fairly simplistic ones in the Pokemon Centers. After a bit of trial and error she managed to get a refreshingly cool spray of water raining down on her and she stood under it, closing her eyes and letting the coolness wash away all the grossness. At first, it felt very cool and revitalizing, and she quickly pumped some soap from the dispenser and scrubbed herself down. It had a mild, floral scent to it and it helped to further re-energize the blonde, but as she was rinsing it from her body, she was overcome by a sudden chill. It was so bad that her teeth were chattering and she couldn't stop from shaking, so she readjusted the temperature until it was just below scalding. That seemed to help, but after only a few moments, she started to feel feverish and uncomfortable so she turned it down again, managing to find a happy lukewarm medium. With that taken care of she plopped herself down directly under the shower head and let the water stream down onto her head. She pulled her knees up to her chest, content to just relax and have a moment to herself for now, but the problem with being on her own was that it allowed her thoughts to take over. Everything seemed to slam into her all at once and without warning, she'd started sobbing quietly as the weight of it all crashed down on her.

Jake was blissfully ignorant of Jade's worries as he stooped down to adjust his boots a little, momentarily forgetting that Magnemite was nesting in his hair and the Steel-type flopped to the ground with a thud. It rolled its eye up toward its trainer, attempting to look angry. "Oops, sorry, buddy!" Jake chuckled and scooped up the magnet while rising to his full height. "You all right?" The Magnemite continued its semi-harsh stare for another two seconds before it started to give off a strange sound, that if Jake had to guess, sounded like purring of some kind. He tucked the creature under his arm and looked around, noting that Grotle was pouting a little due to the Shinx's lack of enthusiasm for making new friends. "Ahh, don't worry about him, Grotle," Jake said, nodding towards Cirrus. "Not all Pokemon are as nice and friendly as you are. He'll come around eventually. He just needs time to get to know everyone, is all."

Jake looked over at Jade and smiled as well as he let go of his newest Pokemon, who floated over to Grotle and wedged itself comfortably between the shrubs on the Grove Pokemon's back. Grotle seemed pleased by this development and began to move along, leading the way down the path Jade had indicated. "Yeah, that looks right to me," the boy nodded, holding out his arm. "Ladies and ill-tempered Pokemon first," he added, trying to keep a straight face but failing miserably, and he lost any semblance of seriousness as he snagged his foot in a root and sent himself to the ground yet again. "I'm okay," he said quickly, jumping up like nothing had happened. "I meant to do that, yeah!" He slapped on a dopey smile and kept walking, though after a few meters the grin faded and he looked down at the ground, unsure of how much longer he could put on a cheerful face. He still couldn't remember a thing and it was eating away at him like a disease, and the fact that he hadn't told Jade about it yet only added to the guilt he felt. He stole a glance at the back of the girl's head, and silently promised her that he would tell her everything he could, and soon, if he could work up the courage.

Amber was more than pleased with herself as she trotted away from her Fire Spin-trapped foe, all six tails flicking as though to say 'Take that, you little brute!' It hadn't seemed to cross the fox's mind that someday, the Tyrogue would likely get her back for it and Karrigan sighed, wondering if these two would always be like that. She was certain that Amber would prefer a repeat of her last attack, but the redhead wasn't sure if Lee would fall for it again or not, or if he was even still confused. The battle adjacent to theirs seemed to take a rather noisy turn, and Karrigan glanced over to see that both Fire-types were no longer battling, and now there was a large, red lobster-like Pokemon on the field as well as a big, green dinosaur thing that sort of resembled Amy's Bayleef, Flora. Their match is certainly... heated, Karrigan thought, astonished by the power of the Grass-type's Magical Leaf.

But, now wasn't the time to be taken up in someone else's battle and she looked back to her own. "Amber, try something a little different, use Ember," Karrigan called. Amber's ear twitches in annoyance but she didn't appear to entirely disapprove of the command and she moved in toward the Fire Spin, her internal flames beginning to build up as she prepared for the attack. Now Karrigan had expected for her to attack through the wall of fire, but the Vulpix had no intentions of playing it safe as her ego once again got the better of her. She jumped through the flames, landing behind Lee and began to fire off her attack, unaware of the fact that the Tyrogue was fully aware of her location now.

Barbie seemed to be enjoying herself quite a bit, possibly more for the fact that it was super easy to get this Dante kid all riled up rather than even battling. In all honesty she wasn't really a mean person and part of her act was to show Dante that he had to learn to let others' comments run off him like water on a Golduck's back. His hesitation got his Dusclops hit by the Knock Off, but the boy was quick to retaliate and soon the Ghost-type was rocketing toward her Tangrowth with speed one couldn't imagine coming from such a bulky Pokemon.

"Atta boy," she laughed, flicking her multicoloured nails. "Tangrowth, keep yourself up there by using Ingrain!" Tangrowth nodded and its body began to glow as it implanted its roots into the beams, entwining and twisting them tightly. Kenny's attack hit hard but because the Vine Pokemon was rooted to the spot, neither of them were going anywhere.

It was quite safe to say that neither Surge nor Electabuzz were expecting for Pupitar to evade their attack so creatively, and while the Electric-type stood there, wearing a stunned expression, Surge's serious expression broke and he began to laugh loudly. "Sweet mother of Zapdos, ya sure don't see flyin' Pupitars very often. Dat der's a thing o' beauty!" Electabuzz, on the other hand, wasn't impressed at all and he gave himself a shake, sending cascades of sand to the ground as he'd been coated quite thoroughly with it from Pupitar's flight. Not only that, but some had gotten into his eyes and it hurt like hell. The Electric-type growled, electricity rippling through his powerful arms. That thing was going to pay!

"Pretty clever, boyo, but yer gonna need to keep up the tricks if ya wanna win this!" Surge continued. "Electabuzz, get in there and slam 'em with yer Ice Punch!" Electabuzz howled out in rage and dashed forward, hauling back a fist that became coated in a frigid, icy energy. Fortunately for Pupitar, however, Electabuzz's vision wasn't 20/20 at the moment and his aim was off as he swung his frozen fist at the Rock and Ground-type.

Flannery had defiantly crossed her arms over her chest to emphasize her words, though her expression was more of a humored one as she anticipated the other redhead's reaction. Normally when she threatened either of her boys with random violence or other untold consequences, they'd fold like a couple of bad poker players, so naturally she was quite unprepared for it when Keegan didn't start to laugh good-naturedly, give up and accompany her back to the rendez-vous point willingly. Instead, his reaction was quite the opposite and she found herself taking several large steps backward as he approached her, seething with anger. In all the time she'd known him, he'd never once raised a hand to her (not in a serious manner, anyway) and for a fleeting moment she was actually a little frightened of him, wincing as he yelled right back at her. Almost instantly she realized that she should never have brought up the topic of his father, and she shook her head quickly, ruby eyes now brimming with tears. "No, Keegan," she said, her voice surprisingly firm and unwavering. "I haven't forgotten. I haven't forgotten anything."

Steeling herself, she stepped forward and plucked the cigarette from his fingers and tossed it to the ground before crushing it with her shoe. She then planted both hands on her hips and looked straight into his eyes. "I haven't forgotten, Keegan," she repeated, "and I never will." She sniffled, but continued looking at him. "How could I - we - forget a soaking wet and shivering nine year-old you showing up on our doorstep in the middle of the night because you got locked out of the house for losing your key, and during the worst rainstorm Lavaridge has ever seen? Or how many times Mike and I secretly helped you paint and repaint the shed and fences because you 'missed a spot'? Or Grandpa Moore bandaging your hands to cover all the blisters on them because your dad made you fill up all the potholes in the driveway? Or, oh, how about this, how you couldn't even stand the AIR touching your skin when your dad made you weed the entire yard during the hottest days of summer? Your back and shoulders got sunburned so badly, and through your shirt, at that, that you could hardly move. And how many times we sneaked you food because you were late to the dinner table? Nope, I sure haven't forgotten that."

She drew in a shaky breath and looked away from him then, able to think of plenty more things she and Mike had seen their friend go through, aside from his normal regiment of chores and duties around the house. It was no wonder that Keegan was always finding ways to rebel and disobey, but at the same time he had quite a wonderful knack for bringing it on himself. Another memory flashed through her mind then and she smiled almost impishly as she knew this next one would most definitely get to him. "What about..." she started, reaching up and placing a hand on his arm, "what about that thing with the buckets? I bet you haven't forgotten that one, either." To this day, she still didn't know what Keegan had done to deserve that punishment, but if you asked her, it had easily been one of the worst.

Pupitar was safe for the moment, and while it was indeed a close one their maneuver went off without a hitch. "Tricks are what I do best. Brute force doesn't win battles all the time." He said as he watched the angrily sparking Electabuzz who appeared to have a rather short fuse. Pupitar gazed at his oponent as well as he started to fall back down to earth, the rock cocoon not exactly of the shape or mass to simply float he fell rather quickly, and yellow and black pokemon was ready with a mighty icey fist cocked back and loaded with muscle. "Don't mistaken my tricks for play though, we're just as serious as you are. Brick Break....now." Pupitar's horns shone with might as his inertia carried him towards Electabuzz quickly, but as he flew down into what would be a devastating ice attack he fired a blast or air from his ports at the last moment right when he was in range of his fist. The attack would have surely hit and Pupitar had braced himself, but with the boost of speed and Electabuzz's impared vision he got lucky and avoided the frosty fist allowing him to become an unhindered stone missile hell bent on destruction.

Riza had quite a feeling of contentment as Diemia easily overpowered the Charmeleon, though the feeling didn't last as it was replaced by slight guilt. Perhaps she'd gone a bit overboard then, and she looked away, finding her gaze landing back on Amy's battle. She certainly hoped her friend's sweet Bayleef wasn't the one caught in all those flames, and she looked back as Kasiya recalled Nova, and replaced the Charmeleon with another Pokemon. Riza's grey eyes went wide when she saw the fully evolved Meganium and she suddenly wondered just how many different Pokemon the blonde had at her disposal.

There wasn't much time for pondering however as now a flurry of rainbow leaves were cutting through the air and closing in on Diemia. Though she felt bad for her initial comment, Riza was slightly glad that Kasiya didn't have her Raichu handy, though it wasn't like a grass-type was easier to deal with. "Protect!" she blurted out, her normally pale cheeks taking on a tinge of pink. Even though she'd wanted to show Kasiya a thing or two, she suddenly knew this wasn't going to end well for her. Diemia slammed her claws on the ground, causing a protective bubble of green light to form around her. The Magical Leafs bounced up against the barrier but didn't break through but Riza was sure there were more grass attacks headed their way in the near future.

As annoyed as she had been with Kilik, it was very difficult to stay mad at someone when their face was comically being tackled by a small white balloon of a Pokemon. It seemed that the little creature was quite grateful for the help and Katie couldn't help but laugh, her annoyance starting to fade as she was more happy to see that Moody and Jenea were all right. Very suddenly there was a weight on her shoulder and Katie stumbled a bit, quickly realizing that Kilik's Flareon had chosen her for a perch. His tail was so fluffy and soft that she couldn't resist reaching up and petting him, or rather, cuddling him lovingly. She couldn't help but think that cuddling a Flareon to sleep would be the comfiest, most cozy and warm thing in the whole world. "I'm Katie," the orange haired girl said, her voice a bit muffled from the fiery fox's fur. She looked around as though to introduce her other Pokemon but they were far too spread out, and she decided that she didn't feel much like it. If the new girl asked, then she'd speak up about them.

It was quite an adorable sight to see Kord trying to pout effectively as Cable tried to cheer him up. Mostly the young Elekid was trying to pretend like the grown up Electivire's Discharge hadn't been the most awesomest thing since sliced bread and it made him want to be more like Cable than ever before. He did perk up at the idea, however and he laughed from the jolt Cable sent him. He grabbed Cable's hand and then scampered up the larger Pokemon's arm before roosting atop his head once again.

Gardenia gave a small sigh of relief as Roserade's attack was enough to knock back the Ambipom. Robin and Luffy both seemed to be quite eager and possibly a bit reckless so it had worked against them that time. The Return might have failed but that didn't deter them in the least as now they were charging in for a Brick Break attack. Gardenia was also certain that the monkey had been poisoned, but he was holding surprisingly strong against it.

The deflection worked last time so it had to work again, right? Gardenia straightened up and pointed at the Ambipom. "Roserade, let's go with Shadow Ball now!" she called excitedly. But, it wasn't until Roserade had already fired off the shadowy orb that she remembered that normal types were not affected by ghost moves. She'd made another error in judgement, it seemed.

Amy chanced a glance over towards the other battle, feeling slightly surprised at the sight of the Meganium Riza's blonde opponent had sent out in response to the large crab Riza was now commanding. It seemed to be a battle more vicious than their own, but then again, Amy was sure that neither she nor Karrigan had many fully evolved Pokemon and her own Pokemon was very much incapacitated at the moment. But seeing the apparent strength of the final evolution of Chikorita made her feel inspired, and she returned her focus to her own battle with a small smile, despite the current circumstances. Lee grimaced as the flames licked at him again, wondering how long he had been stuck in this vortex; it seemed like an eternity, though it had only been a few minutes. He needed to get out soon.

Karrigan ordered for an Ember and Amy winced, knowing that Amber could send the flames from afar and wound her opponent without any risk. But that didn't seem to be the plan; the little fox circled around and leapt back into the vortex with an evident eagerness, unaware of the implications of Lee's previous Foresight. "Lee, now!" she found herself shouting to be heard over the flames, not knowing what the Tyrogue had planned but knowing that he was as desperate for action as she was, and now was certainly the time to strike. Indeed, the ruffian turned on his heel expectantly, bracing himself for the onslaught of flames as he charged the little fox, taking the brunt of the Ember attack if only for the sake of grabbing onto that pesky little Vulpix's fur and continuing his charge forward. He leapt out, using Amber as a shield, guessing that the flames hadn't hurt her considering she was so ready to enter the Fire Spin's realm at will. Amy watched, mouth agape, as the Fighting-type tumbled out, already shoving the little fox away with minimal force. He seemed a little worse for wear, breaths coming in heavy, his skin riddled with burns and blackened marks and smoke drifting from his very being, but the tired grin he wore was one of determination. The bespectacled girl laughed breathlessly, feeling a rush of pride and admiration for her own Pokemon's thinking, but immediately, she knew they had to act and make up for lost time. "Mach Punch, go!" she ordered, and Lee was charging towards that red fox, fist aglow, already drawing back in preparation for the speedy strike. If there was one thing to be certain, it was that he would never allow himself to be caught in such a move ever again.

Jade's eyes narrowed slightly at her kitten, already meaning to apologize for the Pokemon's insolence, but instead choosing to remain silent and will her cheeks not to redden with her own annoyance and embarassment. Cirrus, on the other hand, seemed incredibly pleased with himself, and began trotting down the path that the blonde boy had directed them in, nose turned upwards in the air as if to establish his own superiority. The raven-haired girl's irritation was only slightly quelled when she saw Jake's antics and she only smiled a little in reply, already turning with her Pokemon. She had begun to feel abnormally attached to the other trainer, but it was to be expected; he was one of the first people she met since she came her. And he was genuinely nice and well-intentioned, if only a little scatter-brained at times. Jake was a better companion than she could've asked for, if she was being honest, and that very fact made her wary. This entire adventure was going almost too swimmingly, and she expected something to turn downhill very, very soon. Her falling in the river, Solaris' running away, and Cirrus' capture and subsequent attitude were only minor inconveniences, she decided when she dwelled on it.

I have to tell him. The very thought filled her with dread, as if giving voice to her actions suddenly made her responsible, as if saying it aloud would make everything so real. For the past day, she had fallen into the delusion that she was just an ordinary trainer, that she and Jake would travel around and earn badges and catch Pokemon and become strong. But every time she thought about it, the harsh reality crashed upon her. She would be listed as a missing person by now; she had been gone maybe three days at the most. They would be sending someone in all regions after her, wouldn't they? She wished she had a means of checking the news, just to see the missing persons reports as of late. In that moment, Jade was glad that Jake was not directly beside her, when her composure slipped and her face crumpled, her eyes squeezing shut to blink back tears of fear and worry. Despite her misgivings against the entire institution and her teachers, the girl found that she missed them, in her heart. She missed her friends, her fellow acolytes, even that sweet little Eevee she had been partnered with. Jade pieced herself back together after that, still carrying on in a well-maintained silence, and glancing at the Shinx trotting beside her.

They carried on through the forest for some time, before the sunlight burst through the gaps in the trees and the breeze occasionally brought the smell of flowers. Jade glanced back, to make sure she was still going the right way and Jake and his Pokemon were still in tow, but it proved unnecessary because within the next moment, they came upon the field of flowers that bloomed behind the quiet little town. Jade found herself pausing, looking at all of the colors and smelling the sweetness of them in the very air, taking it all in with a deep breath. "I'm really glad I met you, you know," she said quietly to the blonde. The dark-haired girl smiled then, and for the first time, it felt genuine. "So, thanks." Unsure why she had spoken, and even more uncertain of what she might say next, she turned back to the field of flowers, where Cirrus was already bounding forward, trampling over some wildflowers in his path. "Shall we?"

Figuring no one was gonna swipe a completely gross messenger bag in the minute or so she was away, Sasha stood up and walked towards the lady's room. As she neared the door, she heard the water running, and figured Kasiya had already stepped inside. Her mind went to devious places as she reached for the doorknob, quickly opening it in case she 'accidentally' came in while she was in the process of getting in the shower. Sadly, the only thing she was greeted with was steam and disappointing failure. Sasha frowned, walking over to the small pile of Kasiya's tattered green clothes. As she reached for them, she opened her mouth to speak, but stopped when she heard a faint sound echoing amid the rushing water.

She was crying.

Sasha felt like a terrible, awful, selfish skank of a human being. Here her friend was, going through heart-wrenching emotional trauma, and she was trying to sneak a peek at her in the shower. Without saying another word, Sasha scooped up Kasiya's clothes and left, silently walking to the washing room and putting them in. She turned the dial to delicate, pushed the button to start, and hung her head in shame.

Train had placed herself on a larger rock off to the side of the grass and was pondering her options. She felt that she should train with Oddish a little more before going to challenge Misty but she…really didn’t feel like it. It was slow, and mostly frustrating, and Absorb would work fine on the Water-types anyway. BUT, she definitely did want to end up embarrassed like she had in her battle against Brock. She was pretty sure she almost didn’t even deserve that badge, luckily her other Pokémon had listened very well, so it was okay.

Dwelling on that wouldn’t help, though. So she sighed, and stood up, and scooted over to Oddish carefully so she wouldn’t scare her.
”Alright, Oddish, come on. We’re gonna go find another battle, okay?” She said quietly. Oddish followed her carefully, and the fact that she was doing anything besides cowering or running away was very relieving to Train.

They walked for just a little, pushing through the grass, Train parting the large blades to help Oddish get through, before coming upon a Pidgey. Once again, the Pokémon was paying them no attention, and did not seem to be interested in fighting. Which made Train feel bad. Pokémon usually just jumped out and attacked trainers. Why were they choosing now to be all docile and s**t!

Leon was seated at Mr. Briney’s table now, watching (well, more like not really paying attention) to the man as he gathered up some things for their small voyage. He wasn’t particularly thinking about anything, either. Just waiting for things to get going.

Finally, Mr. Briney appeared in front of the table and said,
”Alright, lad. It’s time to set sail!” Leon stood quietly and politely pushed in his chair before following the man outside, giving the boat a once over before stepping aboard. Mr. Briney continued his preparations, and made sure Leon was all prepared as well before finally sending them on their way.

Before sending Oddish off to fight, Train flipped open her PokéDex and scrolled through her Pokémon’s stats. She hadn’t leveled up, but that wasn’t really an issue right now and Train wasn’t surprised. She eyed the Pokémon’s latest move and, pleased, slipped the ‘Dex back into her back pocket.

”Okay, Oddish, are you ready?” She asked softly, leaning down a bit. The Grass- and Poison-type actually shot her kind of a glare, and Train recoiled a bit, expression dropping. ”I-I’m sorry.” She mumbled, a bit confused. ”But, hey, I know an attack you’ll like even better than Absorb, okay? I want you to try it out on that Pidgey there. It’s called Mega Drain. Can you give it a shot for me?” She felt a little bad talking to the Pokémon like it was a toddler, but she wasn’t quite sure how else to interact with the timid creature.

They hadn’t been out for long, but Leon wasn’t sure how long this trip was going to take and he was very obviously bored. Mr. Briney had looked back a couple of times to make sure he wasn’t going to get sea sick, and the boredom was becoming more and more obvious to the seasoned sailor. He chuckled to himself at these kids and their need to always be doing something before piping up.

”Hey there, lad, if you’re achin’ for somethin’ ta do, I’ve got a couple of rods stashed away in that bench-lookin’ thing at the back.” Leon, a bit surprised by the man suddenly speaking up, glanced back at the bench before pushing himself up and walking over to it. He knelt down and lifted the lid, and, sure enough, there were a few different rods tangled together, among a bunch of other random fishing gear that he had no idea how to use. He didn’t really need any relaxing time right now. Nothing had stressed him out and he wasn’t tired or anything, so he set about untangling the rods for now.

Oddish was surprised to discover that she vaguely recognized the name of the attack. She wasn’t sure if she’d heard it before, but it definitely seemed like something that she could do, so she moved herself forward a couple of steps before attempting the attack.

Green orbs floated out of her tiny body much in the same way as they did when she used Absorb, only they appeared to be a bit bigger and moved much faster towards her opponent. They sunk into the Pidgey before it realized anything was happening, but the Pokémon stood up, displeased, as it felt its energy suddenly beginning to fade. The orbs quickly returned to Oddish, replenishing a bit of her own health.

She did, indeed, like this attack better than Absorb.

The Pidgey looked around before spotting Oddish, hopping around to face her. It opened its wings and sent a powerful Gust of wind at Oddish, knocking the Pokémon back. She had to wiggle her feet for a moment before being able to right herself, but she was very ready to retaliate. She was preparing for another Mega Drain, but paused, suddenly very aware of Train in the background.

Train was not hesitating, however, because she knew what was coming if she did.
”Acid!” She commanded, her voice at a normal level now. Oddish complied rather easily, sending the spray or poisonous liquid at the Pidgey, which fluttered about for a moment trying to get the stuff off of it.

It flapped its wings and turned away from Oddish, using its talons to begin kicking up dirt at the Pokémon in a Sand Attack. Oddish clamped her eyes shut and shook her head furiously, the sand that managed to get in her eyes causing her a bit of pain. Very prepared to see some green orbs start to float around the battle field, Train tried to cut in quickly.
”Hit it with another Acid, Oddish!” Mega Drain wasn’t a bad attack or anything, but it was a Grass-type attack, so even though it was more powerful than Absorb, it still wasn’t an ideal move to use again a Flying-type. Acid at least could have its full effect on the Pokémon.

Oddish was a bit frustrated with her trainer now. Why would she show her a move she’d like and then not let her use it? She cracked her eyes open and shot out another spray of acid at the Pidgey, but did so begrudgingly.

The battle was already taking its toll on the Pidgey. It turned and flapped its wings weakly, trying to send another Gust at Oddish. This blast wasn’t very powerful, however. Oddish didn’t seem to notice one way or another, though, as she was feeling a bit…odd. And…bright?

A white glow had begun to envelope the Weed Pokémon, and Train’s eyes widened in surprise as she watched it progressively spread over Oddish. She hadn’t even payed attention to when Oddish was going to evolve. Hell, she wasn’t even sure if her PokéDex had said anything about it! But, here it was, happening. Like. Right now. In front of her.

Oddish’s shape began to morph, growing to nearly double her original size. After a moment, the glow began to subside, and revealed the Gloom that now stood in Oddish’s place.

”Whoooaa!!” Train exclaimed excited, wriggling and waggling and all those fun words in excitement, heels of her hands smushing up her cheeks in glee. ”Oddish!! Oh my god! I’m so proud of you! Or I guess I should call you Gloom now, huh?! Oh my god!!!” She had completely forgotten about being all cautious and quiet around her Pokémon. She was just so excited! She really had NOT expected Oddish to evolve any time soon. This was just fantastic! Like, holy s**t! This was ******** wonderful!

Oddi—er, Gloom, was also very pleased at this turn of events. She puffed herself up a bit, staring down at the Pidgey, which had given up on its Gust attack.
”Go on, hit it with a Mega Drain, Gloom!” Train cheered, and Gloom was more than happy to oblige. The orbs sped towards the Pokémon, and the bird toppled over as they made their return to Gloom, healing her up just a little bit.

Train dropped down to her knees and beckoned Gloom towards her, but the Pokémon only took a few hesitant steps towards her trainer. Train’s face softened and she spoke quietly again (though still with very much excitement in her voice).
”It’s okay, Gloom. I’m so proud of you! You’ve gotten so strong since I first ran into you!” Gloom walked up to Train and allowed the girl to pull her into a hug.

It was a very nice moment until Train finally caught a whiff of the honey that was now constantly leaking from her Pokémon’s mouth, and wrinkled her nose in displeasure. She almost pushed Gloom away, but managed to control herself and let go of the Pokémon gently, standing up and looking down at her shirt. Which had, of course, gotten some of that disgusting s**t on it. Awesome.

Still, she smiled down at her Pokémon before pulling out her PokéBall, praising her again before pressing the button and returning the Pokémon. And now, free of worry, she coughed and plugged her nose and tried not to vomit as she hurried back to Cerulean. Please oh god please let the Pokémon Center have a laundry room.
