I- I don't think so. Drean rose to his feet with some effort, then began to limp towards the Tardis. He refused to look at Katrina, choosing instead to simply stare at the ground with a frustrated look over his face. I can walk... I can walk.

Katrina stayed nearby as Drean walked on. Once in the TARDIS the Doctor had Drean sit down as he scanned the mysterious goo. " Fascinating. It seems to be protecting you on the outside but the bad news is it is also.. consuming you.. slowly thankfully."

Well, if that isn't the absolute greatest news I've heard all day... Then my name isn't Bobby the clown... He folded his arms in frustration, ignoring the fact that more of the goo smeared over his other arm when he did so.
Well, there is one upside to all of this... and one chance at hope. The second Drean appeared on the monitor. The scans are showing that these are low-tech nanites, developed by humans. Cybermen are just advanced humans, so these are very similar to the ones being produced by your cyborg body. We can develop a program to get them under control.
The "real" Drean's face began to light up. Great! Then repair this body, and we'll be just fine!
Well, the bad news is, the damage to your organic body is too severe. They've actually begun processing you in your entriety, you just can't feel it... And... well... Drean seemed to hesitate. As he did, the Tardis matrix came up behind him, resting a hand on his shoulder. Well, the problem is, we actually don't keep much of the Flesh on board... Due to it's instability after sitting unused for long periods of time.
Drean's face fell again. So... I'm back to being the local cyborg.

Katrina's heart sank. She didn't want Drean to have to be a cyborg again. " Is there no other way?"

Pal, I know that this is hard for you, but... If you want to keep your memories from this time you've spent in this body, it's the only way. The digital Drean gave him a sad look. A helmet for the chameleon arch descended from the ceiling and dangled in front of him. We can use the chameleon arch to map out your neuron paths. That should be enough to draw out recent memories.
Drean thought for a moment, giving the helmet a sad look. Is it even worth remembering? To have tasted freedom and lost it again? I could just let this body die and forget this feeling.
Well, on the positive side, we're going to be able to install a program to consciously control nanite behavior. Your cyborg body will be much less bulky, and even less obvious... The Tardis matrix was suddenly standing next to the digital Drean again. Didn't anything happen out there worth remembering?
Drean thought for a moment, then looked at Katrina. As he did, his gaze resolved itself. With new will, he reached up and grabbed the headpiece, quickly buckling the strap under his chin.
Beginning upload... NOW! The screen with the other Drean went blank, then started to show a map of Drean's brain. The real Drean immediately fell to the floor, unconscious. We're going to have to install and integrate the nanite program along with this update of my brain. It make take a while, so you should probably deal with whatever's out there in the meantime. Be careful.

Katrina was close to tears. She kept her eyes on the human Drean. " I might be able to keep some humanity." The Doctor remarked. " Keep uploading I'll work on the program and have it upload when I'm done."

The help is really appreciated, Doctor...
The was a momentary pause as everything fell silent in the room. Then, with a sickening squelching sound, the windows of the Tardis were struck by more of the nanite blob.
It's trying to get in! It must be feeding and growing out there! Drean's voice sounded more stressed, as if he were lifting a heavy load.
I'm putting up the shields right now... They should be able to keep them out. But there's no helping any other people out there...

" Katrina find some stuff to barricade the door. There should be some stuff in storage. Go left 3 times and up the stairs." Katrina ran off to find some stuff.

When Katrina had left, the Digital Drean reappeared on the screen, a morose look across his face. I don't know what to do, Doctor... It's just pathetic. No matter what I do, it's like it doesn't make a difference. I always wind up dead or dying, and always in front of her... She must think I'm beyond pitiful.

Drean looked relieved and hastily accepted the Doctor's offer. Thanks, Doctor... I think that there might be something there between the two of us, but I can't be-
Doctor, we have a real problem on our hands! The Tardis spoke over Drean with alarming volume. It looks as if the nanites that attacked Drean are growing in number outside... and the human population is rapidly diminishing in this area. They're attacking humans and growing at an alarming rate.

Katrina had just gotten back when she heard the news. " What can we do?" The Doctor thought hard. " Ok I think I have an idea. Drean I'm going to need your help. We need to learn all we can about these nanites. Katrina keep guarding that door." Katrina nodded put the big trunk she had found in front of the doors and went to go get more. " Actually Drean you go help her." He leaned over to Drean. " Might give you two a chance to talk."

Drean sighed, smiled, then nodded, seeming to progress through several different emotions. Not much that I can do in my current state, but I'll try. With a final nod to the Doctor, the screen went blank again, leaving only the Doctor and Drean's rapidly deteriorating physical body, infected with nanites.
While Katrina was running, screens on the wall lit up to keep up with her. Well, so much for our vacation to the eighties, huh? I guess that the two of us managed to find trouble again... I guess you're better at dealing with danger than I am. On the screen, he gave an apologetic shrug. Sorry I can't help you carry anything... But I might be able to access some of the Tardis controls to make it easier on you!
