His ears dropped as he looked at the table and then back at Junko. While she was fixing it, he knew he did something wrong. He just didn't know what, but she was very upset over it. Why would the teacher give them all this stuff if she didn't want them to use it? If she didn't, then what did they do with all the extra? Were these surplus forks and spoons, are were they doing place settings for either a small or big monsters. Where some forks, cups, and spoons faulty and they had to pick out the correct ones that weren't odd or strange?
It really wasn't as easy as they made it all sound, and he guessed if he didn't GET what he got wrong, maybe looking around would help. He first stepped over and rose up on hooves to see across. Riley was looking just as miserable as he was, which did make him happy, but at least their table was set. It had a strange organization, but a pink-haired boil seemed confident and pleased in his work. He got done so quickly! Thinking that must be right, he glanced at his table before walking back and looking over to the other side. From there, he noticed that a few people were stacking their plates and crowding the cups together. Well, that looked a bit neater - he guessed.
Moving back, he started grabbing the cups and put them in a corner. "Sorry. ..." He said, and then piled the spoons together. Not side by side, but in a pile. "....I think we just pile things that match together." He didn't know where the piles should be on the table, but he felt confident that they had to be in piles.

This was something he knew. Dinner placement was something very strictly held in his family and they all had to learn some form of it. Though there were several different ways for it to be 'proper', there still was a bit of a system. His partner was Miss Shehk, someone he had seen a lot of, but never truly got to talk to. With a soft smile and a deep bow, he set out his layout: "A pleasure to meet you, Miss Shehk. I am Livi. And this... this is my family's typically place setting. How about you?" He looked at her curiously. "Was your family like this?" ((Sorry it's short and bleh, Pach!))

Shehk...had never set a table before in her life. She wasn't even sure how the hell to go about setting something like that up to start with (well, besides a plate, but none the less). However, it seemed that her partner had pretty much taken over and she wasn't about to complain, Shehk carefully handing each item they were required to set to Livi as he set to work.
Her job right then was to make sure she didn't drop anything. This wasn't a difficult job. However, she did have to say that Livi's set-up was pleasant on the eyes at least. Hopefully she wasn't appraising it poorly, however. She had sort of just let him do all the work. Clearly if there was a chapter in the book on this sort of thing, she was going to have to look into it.
"Well, I'm just glad you know what you're doing, Mr. Livi..." she paused, pondering if that name sounded really strange with the title, but passed it by quickly enough. "Unfortunately, I don't have a family." The Pricolici shrugged. "FEAR born, of sorts. FEAR born and undead." she paused, pondering if she really should have mentioned that last part, given she didn't want to suddenly cause a fit of 'OH GODS, U PAIRED ME UNDEADDDZZZ??'. But..she was a kinda-vampire, right? Didn't demons like vampires? Maybe she didn't count there.
Oh well, she'd just do her best to be polite about it.
"But no. There were no 'set ups' for family dinners in my case. Not as far as I can recall. I.." she paused. "I -have- been risen for some time and unfortunately those earliest years were quite a shake to my ability to remember things from them."

A finger was pressed against his bottom lip as he studied his placement critically. He was thankful for her help with it and he thanked her a lot for it before he decided it worked well and then focused on his partner. "Yes, it's something that's rather drilled into me. But there's nothing wrong with a nice dinner placement... I don't think." A soft chuckle would have left him when she mentioned not having a family and it faded. "Oh... forgive me if I brought up any bad memories. That wasn't my intention."
"Ah, I see! I didn't notice the undead part, please forgive me." Sometimes he was rather dense about which race a person was. "I was admiring your fashion sense. But I'm happy to be your partner. I did wish to speak with you more, since I never got the chance during the christmas town... issue." They had been int he same train cabin after all.
"In a way, you're lucky. As nice as these settings look, they can be quite the pain to set up... sometimes, simplistic is best... but I didn't say that out loud." Hopefully the professor didn't hear that. >> "Outside of formal occasions, of course." X3

((I'm going to seperate Natalia and Gabe's "setup" into two posts, since we did the RP in AIM and...it's a wall of text. >>))Oh! She was paired up with the serpent guy—Gabe, was it? Yeah she remembered him from the shed escapade…not that the ghoul had lasted long in all of the chaos and drama. Natalia will never admit to it, but she closed her eyes for half of the journey and ran to her dorm the instant they were back on Amityville grounds. Such a shame.
However, what took precedent was the task at hand…one that Natalia was silently dreading. As classy as she looked, (notice how ‘act’ wasn’t mentioned) and as eloquent as her speech may be; the ghoul was a lost cause when it came to setting tables. Give her a fork and a knife and she’s set—she never understood why there was a need for specific utensils. That just meant there would be more dishes to clean up afterwards…but as Ms. Winters called out the student pairings her gaze swept across the table and landed shakily on her green-haired partner.
Oh…dear.
He looked the part of ‘proper etiquette’, sitting pristine in his seat with clothes that put her own to shame. Natalia suckled on her lip as they waited for the okay to move, now finding two reasons to dread the assignment; not only would she have to set a table with superfluous tools, but she would also have to impress Gabe by acting as if she knew exactly how to do it. When released from their seats, the ghoul took to a steady walk in his direction, greeting the boil with a bow. The nervousness she felt was hardly noticeable through a placid and welcoming grin. “Hello again.” She spoke clearly, rising to her full height after a moment had passed. The werelemur readjusted her shoulders with a shrug, giving the room another look before casually dropping her attention back to Gabe. “Nice to see you again! I don’t know if you remember my name but as a refresher; it is Natalia. We should probably get started soon, considering how easy the task is.”
...------ As far as Gabrian was concerned, this task wasn't... too bad. It could have been worse in the sense that their Professor could have expected them to dance with a strange, with great posture and elegance without having first practiced. Looking around the room, his eyes regarded the other students and he swiftly felt that would have been a disaster. At least, this he knew how to do (for the most part anyhow - he'd been trained to know such things, but granted, table manners while important, had never been his priority seeing as he was never expected to SET the table in the first place). When the pairs were announced, his gaze moved across the room until they met Natalia's. While he hadn't really gotten to know the were lemur, he'd gotten good vibes from her from what little time he'd spent with her; the fact both Ren AND LW had seemed to like her, which gave the ghoul points in her favor. When the werelemur strolled over to her, he smiled at her, "Of course I recall your name, my dear. I would never forget such a lovely face. Or such a lovely attitude," he paused as she proclaimed the task to be easy and tilted his head to one side, arching an elegant brow, "Would you... like to lead the way then?" he stood from his place and collected their items, placing them in front of her, "I admit I didn't really pay that much attention to this particular lesson in manners. I was more interested in other things." ------ She felt the heat rising to her face just seconds before it exploded into her cheeks, pursing her lips out of habit. With a brief nod of her head, Natalia placed her hand against the back of her neck and rubbed. "Of course! So long as my memory serves me well..."
As Gabe set the items down, Natalia stood away from the table with one arm wrapped just below her bosom and the other propping up her chin. Dear Jack, look at all of those things--it was a bit overwhelming! It was true what they said: Lying never got anyone anywhere good! But what on Earth was she to do?! Pointing her index finger out, lips parted, the ghoul seemed ready to speak...but when nothing came out, she crumbled back into her original spot and contemplated her next move...
Okay this was going no where fast. "Hmm, I can't...seem...to recall what goes first...do you?"------ "I would start with the plate, my dear. And the napkin," he was trying hard not to look amused, and surprisingly enough wasn't doing a bad job at it. After all, he'd learned to school his features into a sort of poker face most of the time unless really riled up, "Then the glasses, then the forks, knives and spoons, but I'm quite sure you knew that," he had, of course, caught her in her act, but in all honesty, this was much more entertaining than anything he'd seen in quite a while. As such, the demon (being well... a demon), couldn't quite help teasing her slightly. He'd apologise after the fact, but for now, he was merely going to enjoy this. He figured he'd swoop in to rescue her when the time came. ------ Her eyes never left the demon boil, studying him critically with a hiked brow. Was he…testing her? It sure felt like it…Natalia winced in response to the last thing he said, fingers curling into a fist against her side. The werelemur did not join this class to be criticized by her peers. Perhaps she was taking to the situation far too harshly, assuming too much and making an a** out of herself in doing so; but come on! If he knew she was struggling, he should have opted to help her instead of making her look like a fool.
Natalia was no fool…Not usually…okay she wouldn’t be seen as one today.
She did not particularly liked to be doubted, or mocked, or...well…she just didn’t like this and all of these mixed emotions were starting to mess with her head. Another dumb assignment, the ghoul finally managed to conclude on, releasing the hold she had taken up on her shirt. She was in no place to throw a fit, none, but the ghoul couldn’t help herself. Drawing forward and snatching the napkin up and into both of her hands, Natalia breathed out heavily. “Oh right right. I knew that.”
She would show him. Throwing herself into the seat, Natalia went at it.
Suddenly her hands were working tirelessly on the goods, placing plates here and bowls there, shifting spoons and knives so they were turned and rotated a certain way…before straightening them all out again. From an outsider’s perspective, one might assume Natalia knew what she was doing. As for Gabe, she assumed he had already made up his mind on the matter and, Natalia, was determined (more like desperate) to change his mind indefinitely. White ears twitched when she finished off, tilting her head to the left as if to catch a better view.
“There.” She remarked coolly, even as a bead of sweat formed near her hairline. ((At which point Gabe said "FAIL"...Please see next post lul))

Oh, he wasn't testing her. At least not in the way she thought he was testing her at least. Unfortunately for poor Natalia, he often found he simply couldn't keep himself from teasing his peers, at least lightly. Specially those he found interesting or he liked - needless to say, this often got him into trouble later, but it was simply something he couldn't help. The test had more to do with endurance than anything; he wanted to know how far she'd carry this charade before she admited failure or turned to snap at him. Surprisingly enough though, the poor ghoul was stubborn enough that she actually went through with the whole ordeal. She did the equivalent of rolling her sleeves up and then sat herself down to the task at hand, head held quite high in the air, "Of course you did," this was breathed from behind her, and only sounded as if he were half there; he was, after all, paying attention to her gestures and her tense movements, more than her actual voice. When she finished shifting items around, he took a moment to hide a smile behind a hand, this time allowing her to see his vague amusement; it didn't seem like he was laughing at her, though (at least not in the mocking sense anyhow). It almost seemed as if he were merely entertained; in fact, she'd just gained several points in her favor throughout their little exchange. After a moment, he lowered his hand and then drew forward until his right arm was curled around her waist, allowing him to whisper near her ear, just loud enough for her to hear, but soft enough he knew their peers wouldn't, "Close, but... not quite, my dear. A for effort though. Specially seeing as how you had every right to bite my head off and you chose not to," reaching out with his left hand, he maneuvered the items around, "Plate goes first, forks to the left," he drawled out, his voice raising up so it was no longer the confident whisper from before, his right arm uncurling from around her waist, "The knives to the left, followed by the spoons, the glasses go up here," he continue retransmitting what he moved around until he was finished, placing the last item, the napkin, to the left. He then took a step back and looked over at Natalia, "What do you think?" he seemed to be asking about... something other than her opinion on the table setting though. ----- Natalia groaned at once, taking note of the silence from behind her…but…
It was in that same moment that he slipped his hand over his mouth, that Natalia cracked a grin and heaved somewhat in an effort to conceal her own bursting amusement. Certainly, she had been miffed over the whole ordeal at first; but the problem wasn’t so much Gabe, even if his countenance had thrown her into a fitful frenzy. In actuality it was the course as a whole, the homework and the assignments—nothing of which she thought this sort of ‘protocol’ entailed. Well, now that it was set up to (what she assumed was) perfect standards, the ghoul could see how a proper table could have something to do with etiquette and all of that nonsense. BUT EVERYTHING ELSE THUS FAR. Not so much.
His good humor helped to alleviate her own distress, and just as he seemed to favor Natalia already…so did the inverse occur.
Reclining back in her seat with one arm propped on the backboard, Natalia rolled her head back and glanced up at the demon. So he wanted to play things off then? As if what he had just done was not something short of fantastic? The ghoul chuckled lightly and strummed her fingers against the wooden seat. With her eyes batting, and a look of pure delight passing over her tilted face, Natalia responded accordingly, “I like what I’m seeing so far…” Her smooth skin, that had been glistening somewhat from all the nerves, was taught in the same clever smile she had put on moments before. Shaking her head in disbelief, mostly because she had just been shown up, the werelemur shrugged her shoulders and then turned the head shake into a nod, giving the table a once over.
“You know, it’s all coming back to me now. Yeah…You know what, I think this will pass us.” This was said, followed up with a short burst of laughter.----- "Lovely, I do too," he drawled as he took a seat beside her, waiting for their teacher, "That smile suits you much better. I'm sorry for teasing you; you were just asking for it and I found it endearing," he chuckled lightly as she laughed, her laughter contagious, "I guess... I'll have to give the gryphon some credit. He has good taste in friends, though don't tell him I said that, eh?" he gave the table one more look over and then nodded his head slightly, "This'll do. Now... I guess we wait for the final verdict then, my dear." ----- Running a long, white finger along the brim of a glass, Natalia winked and replied "You'll come to find I ask for a lot of things." Her head bobbed in a nod, hands lacing together simultaneously. "But your secret is safe with me, no worries Gabe." And with that, she silenced herself and waited patiently for the teacher's approval.((1- Napkin 2- Fish Fork 3- Dinner Fork 4- Salad Fork 5- Dinner Plate 6- Soup and Bowl Plate 7- Soup Bowl 8- Dinner Knife 9- Fish Knife 10- Soup Spoon 11- White Wine Glass 12- Red Whine glass 13- Water Cup thing 14- Dessert fork15- Dessert Spoon 16- Bread Plate 17- Butter Knife ))

Kasumi tapped her chin, tilting the book this way and that, pondering the pictures and walking around the table used for the settings. She studied the pictures intently and with a furrowed brow, offering her suggestions based on the illustration in the book. Myr, her partner, looked like he knew what he was doing. Even the ghost wasn't sure, but she was quite impressed! Only a few minor details needed to be changed and very infrequently. To be honest, Kasumi was relieved - she thought the burden of completing the assignment would rest entirely on her, but she was very pleasantly surprised.
Tapping a glass, she moved it slightly with her hand, pointing to the illustration with the other. "Ah, this one is to go over here, like in the image, but... are you use you haven't taken this class before, Mr. Myr?"
He had a very good idea of where everything went in general, and Kasumi simply pointed out a few minor adjustments. Overall, she was quite impressed and smiled happily. "You are quite good at this, sir!"

White Wine Glass He had been placing the dishes as they were handed to him, setting them done in the locations that he remembered them belonging in. He wasn't completely accurate, but Kasumi was helping out with that, making minor adjustments when they were needed. Myr was suddenly glad for all of the lessons his mother had forced him to attend. " No, I haven't ever taken the class before," he responded back. " I just have a mother who thought that this was important stuff for me to know." He grinned. " I didn't agree with her at the time, but, apparently it is useful, at least for this class." He was a little unnerved by her calling him Mr., and sir, and once they had finished the setting, finally had to say something about it. " You know, you can just call me Myr. I won't get offended or anything." Other than the weird title thing, she was a really good partner, and he felt like she deserved a compliment as well. They had done the assignment fairly well, especially compared to some of the others, and he hoped that he'd work with her again. Maybe they'd end up being partners for the whole class. That would be pretty cool." You're not too bad at this whole thing yourself you know."

Marushii Some boils and ghouls were raised learning the basics of high society and knew little bits of trivia, such as working your way from the outside of your dishes inwards. These same boils and ghouls may also know to eat with their napkin, and to always say "Please," and "Thank You" when eating. Merope wasn't raised with manners. He was raised in a clan of giant seamonsters that were well over a hundred feet long that caught and ate whatever they could find after harvesting them for spare parts as per their orders. Not only that, they didn't even use utensils. The undead sea serpent picked up a dinglehopper fork and looked at it uncertainly, glancing over at Alessa. "Um," he ventured, "I can give it a try first, I guess...?" He was really, really unsure of himself and couldn't resist looking at the other students' settings. He quite like Charlie's, but would it be obvious if he copied the pink haired boy's work? Thankfully, at the school's creepatarium he knew some of the basics. The plate went down first in the middle, the napkin off to one side, then the fork, utensils, and... Hey, wouldn't it look better if he did this instead...? As soon as he placed the last item, he took a step back from the place to admire his handiwork. Then he looked to Alessa. "Think that looks good? Or should some things be moved around...?" Alessa certainly hadn't been raised with fancy manners or anything, just the basics really, but if there was one thing she knew how to do it was set a table. This probably stemmed from her passion for cooking, because it only seemed logical to make sure she could present her food properly should the occasion arise, right? She had been right about to dive in and set it all up rather quickly when Merope decided to volunteer. Feeling a bit guilty, she restrained herself and offered him a smile. "Sure!"
When he was finished she looked over his placement. It wasn't terrible actually, but she knew a few things were in the wrong place. "That's pretty close," she told him, reaching out and picking up the water glass, "The water glass goes next to the red wine glass on the right..." she moved it to set it where she indicated. She then rearranged the stack of dishes, removing the bread plate and setting it where the water glass had been. "The bread plate goes here...with the breath knife across it like this." Lastly she took the desert fork and desert spoon and put them above the main dishes in the center, each facing the opposite direction of the other but laid horizontally across the table. She paused looked back at Merope with a curious headtilt. Something felt off but she couldn't quite place it. "I...think that's right."

Whoever thought putting two undead students together for a lesson in table settings mustn't have been thinking very clearly (apologies to Ms. Winters!), and even worse still when Amrita was paired with Aymet. That was just asking for disaster! The pair took a moment to stare at each other and then at the task ahead of them; they had no idea what to do! What was this just...what?
How they managed to settle into their tasks was rather unremarkable, the only thing worthy of noting was that they both went to go get the utensils and they both decided to help set the table. Aymet was in charge of doing the reaching since...well, he was taller than she was, and could reach over the table easier. Amrita was in charge of holding things that weren't overly breakable.
"Maybe...start with this?" Amrita had suggested, placing one of the spoons as far into the middle of the table as she could. A couple plates were posed here and there, a glass settled in the corner. Nothing seemed to look right, and they were equally lost to what to do.
A couple minutes of trial-and-error later, and there was a plate balanced on a tripod of spoons held together with ice as the mortar. It may have had something to do with an off-handed comment by Aymet over how the utensils looked and probably were weapons. Maybe. It probably escalated when a spoon stuck to the Dracolich's claw from the cold...and they figured ice was the answer to their building hardships.
From there it only got worse; the original goal of the lesson was clearly lost as the plate-fortress was given a protective semi circle of cup-knights that were wrapped in 'decorative garments' that were really just pieces of a ripped up napkin, and each of them had a fork along with small shield-plate iced to them (for their own protection!). Excited and amused (but still super serious) comments radiated from them included but were not limited to 'Nono that's a cape, not a tent!', 'Why is the King on the battlefield?', 'KKSKSSTHS THE CRYSTAL KNIGHT WINS', 'HEY WAIT WHY DOES HE WIN?! THE OTHER ONE IS BIGGER!', and, more than once: 'I think we need more water.'
(image to be edited in when I get home!)
Setting a table for dinner didn't make sense to the undead but apparently building a war scene did. Make war, not dinner?

Place settings. Something the marid was very familiar with. Though her knowledge in them expanded beyond the typical for polite society and into the cultural settings of the nations her race took heritage from. But, they were certainly not sitting on the floor, and there were no giant banana leaves to be used to plates(Yes, that's how they do it at East Indian wedding receptions). Glancing at the items to be placed, she decided a traditional setting would be best. Stepping up to the table, she turned a smile to her partner Christof. "I know my way around a place setting, so if you don't mind, I'll be happy to lay everything out. Would you be so kind as to hand me things?" Igors liked that, right? Assisting and handing things over? It seemed very close to the sort of work one would do while working with a master. "The napkin and plates first, if you please?" She held her hand out to him, and as things touched her palm she took them and placed them in their proper place and order. "Then the bowl, Glasses, and utensils." She would turn the occasional pleased smile to him as they worked together, happy with the order in which he ws handing her things.

Setting the table... That wasn't hard. Despite their house staff, his parents had decided not to make spoiled brats of their sons, so they had all had chores. One of which had been setting the table, though it was a lot less formal than what Ms. Winter was asking of them, but Mother had taught them how to set a more formal setting.
He walked over to the ghoul he had been paired with, Sarias and smiled a bit. He'd not met her before.
"I should be able to set the table. I know something about setting a table," he said with a small nod. That said, he reached for a plate, going about setting the tablespace.
Which went well, up until he got to the glasses. He never set for wine. Alcohol wasn't a common thing in his family, not during meals. Hard drinks were for after-dinner. So, he placed them on the table in positions that he thought were the most logical.
"I... hope that's right? What do you think?" he asked, giving his partner a nervous glance. 1. Napkin 2. Salad Fork 3. Dinner Fork 4. Seafood Fork 5. Soup Bowl 6. Soup/Salad plate 7. Dinner Plate 8. "Yeah.." Colette stood there awkwardly, and as Jericho glanced at the other pairs, she had as well. They were all pretty different.. Ah, well, what would she know? Someone had to be right, and Colette hoped it was Jericho and her. Or maybe there was no real answer. Maybe it wall just up to interpretation. That would be fantastic, but it was a long shot and the Reaper doubted it. Though, for the pair with little hats all over their stuff, she hoped so...
She had been distracted until her partner spoke, and she returned her eyes back to him. "Proper eating?" she echoed. "It shouldn't be too hard if we do... just don't get stuff all over the place?" She wasn't all too sure in her own advice, she didn't even known there was a real "proper" way to eat other than don't make a mess.
Colette hoped they wouldn't have to eat properly. She liked eating, especially delicious foods, and she wasn't messy so she didn't think it would be a problem for her; but her partner.. what he said didn't exactly give her high hopes. She bit her lip nervously and asked, "Do you have problems eating?"

Since they were done, Jericho was just idly watching the other groups get their tables set up. There seemed to be a fairly common theme amongst the groups that had a demon in the pair... minus Riley and the pink haired demon group. Perhaps that was how most demons ate at the table?
Glancing back towards Colette, he shook his head.
"None at all. Though I can't say the same for the igor," he said while motioning to Christof. Having a sewn up mouth would probably make that particular task difficult, "But if there's supposed to be some 'right' way to use this stuff aside from stabbing with forks, cutting with knives, and scooping with spoons... it'd be a little tedious I think."

She would turn the occasional pleased smile to him as they worked together, happy with the order in which he was handing her things. Christof was very happy with this arrangement. First of all, he was must more comfortable handing the cutlery and plates and bowls over like a diligent nurse than he would have been just putting things in their place- who needed so many forks?? Secondly, he was partnered with miss Yaya, which made the entire experience that much more pleasant. He sighed with every finger brush, every assuring pat of a good job, watching in excitement as she folded the napkin. Such talented hands!
