Oh! Hm... well, since he doesn't know any of "them" yet, maybe he could be in the newly created "Class 3"? Cai and Lane are in homeroom Class 2, while Leron and Chiyu are in Class 1, so it'd make sense for Richie to not know anyone if he were in a completely different homeroom. :3
