Be good... The High Priestess had no idea what to do.
If the acolytes who respected her could see her cowering on the floor now, watching the Overseer pace about with the frightened gaze of something that knew it was being hunted, they may not be so quick to trust her so much to stand as a bastion for the Order.
In the end, the only response she had to his questions was "Please... calm down..."
...and you will be lonesome.

It had worked. He calmed instantly on command, bristling energy smoothing over again under a cool and calm veneer, and the Overseer fixed his attention back on Lorika with puzzlement being the foremost emotion, the one he had settled on. It was in the process, natural to him to swing so quickly through moods, and he stood solidly on his own two feet in the Sanctuary. "I am calm."
To better yet enforce his point, he walked back over to the priestess and pulled her up to stand. He positioned her just so that she faced him squarely. Much, much calmer now, whatever hysteria had been brewing a moment ago had vanished, and he kept a steely gaze on her. "Answer my question. I will know the status of the Order, and all that I have missed up to this point. Why has everyone I met so far lost their diligence against a no doubt lurking evil?"

Evelyn
Evelyn shook off the pain of her ankle and stood. She knew she was favoring the other ankle, so she did the best she could to straighten up. The memory of yesterday came flooding back to her fully and she realized something crucial--
THE OVERSEER WAS BACK.
With this knowledge, she began dancing around and singing, ignoring her ankle.
Overseer, my Lord, My heart you do hold, Time has passed since you were near, So very long we've lived in fear.
But Overseer, you have returned, To raise up those of us who've mourned, Oh, Overseer, I love thee, Oh, Overseer, watch over me...
{{Sorry, written on a whim. Not that good, I know...}}

Be good... Lorika's heart was pounding like a hummingbird's wings.
"Th-the Order is..." she hung her head "Scattered. Divided. We are weak. There are only around a century of us left here. And then there are the SIN interlopers, like the girl you met downstairs."
Out of sight, she clenched her fist. "The world no longer respects us. We still have some power, though. Power linked to the Gambinos. Some experts in fields, such as Jessie Hawk and Panda - yes, they both stayed."
She could no longer meet the Overseer's eye, ashamed as she was. Her reply became a murmur. "As for why we have lost our diligence.. I know not. Perhaps I have spent too much time meditating, praying for your safe return and.. and... writing prayers." She blushed very deeply, and turned her head down even further.
"And as for what you can do, well... you can do whatever you want, my Lord. Whatever you want."
...and you will be lonesome.

(( Whatever I want? )) The implications were not lost on him that these people had gone to war, had sacrificed themselves for him. All for a war they had technically lost, because here he was, standing stripped of his memory and power. Was it not true? And he knew exactly what Lorika was saying, but he knew it also was too good to be true. He paused, rubbing the bridge of his nose, and he thought he heard a faint voice from the next room. The Overseer's head cocked to the side, wondering where it had come from. It did not help him now to stay cloistered here away from people, and he turned away from the priestess, leaving the throne room. He started back down the stairs, and there was an invitation for Lorika to follow him now as he spoke aloud. "Two month ago these people were normal and average Gaians, most never hearing about me. This war began for the purpose to drive back the Sentinel, and you are telling me neither army has much of a foothold now? Do we know anything about the Nation, about their movements? We could be on the brink of being crushed utterly, and we do not even know who are our allies?" Finally he added, "Where is the Sentinel?" Perhaps it was no mystery now why he had almost lost it. Too much, too quickly.

Harata paced in the pews, back and forth, back and forth. Realizing that Bapp was still there, she turned to him. "What do you suppose they are doing?" She heard angry noises from the Sanctuary. She was afraid, though for Lorika or the Overseer she could not tell. She ran upstairs, ignoring the pain which started in her wound. She yelled into the room, not entering. "LORIKA, OVERSEER, ARE YOU OKAY IN THERE?" She did not enter, would not unless she was needed. It was, after all, the most holy place of the religion she did not believe in. ((edit:nevermind then.)))) ((Whadi miss.)

(( Well... ;o )) Be good... It was almost a relief that the Overseer walked away from his close quarters with her. Now she was free to trot along after him, as she had most constantly during the War. Wherever he went, she had shadowed him. It was comfortable.
"Quite honestly, my Lord," she began, heels clacking against the stone floor "We believe that the Nation is in just as bad of a state as we are, if not worse. The only reports we've heard from the mainland have been of individual fanatics attempting coups d'etats and such. They never were much for team play, were they?" She punctuated her rhetorical question with a giggle. "We do not know where the Sentinel is. We didn't know where you were, until today.
She paused. "Overseer, wait, please. May you face me for just a moment?"
...and you will be lonesome.

Harata saw the Overseer coming back down the stairs. She motioned him over, wanting to talk, but doubting he would even want to see her.
