"We just arrived," Lin explained coming in, out of the cold.
She supposed it was a surprise, she knew that Ulani would be one of the first people her Dad would talk to, therefore she probably thought Lin wouldn't be coming at all.
"Just finished our trip in the Southland and came here to train," she explained.
Removing her cloak she then smiled sheepishly up at Ulani.
"Because I have body parts that weren't there before."

Ulani was amazed. "I didn't think your kind changed from how you were born," she said, confused, as she closed the door behind the two. "But that can wait, Get inside, warm yourselves by the fire."
"Thanks," Kaito grinned. Without hesitating, he headed over to the fireplace and plopped himself down in front of it.

Senka jumped off of Lin's shoulder and rushed toward the area curling up as close as she could without actually burning herself. Like any cat she loved the warmth of a fire.
Lin nodded, "Thanks."
She took a seat beside Kaito, the cloak was at least big enough to keep the wet out of her wings, but it was nice to be warm. Lin wiggled her toes a bit.

Ulani made sure the door was secure and then she joined the two by the fire. "All right, we're safe now. So. Lin. Tell me what happened."
She sat cross-legged on the floor right across from Lin, looking very much like a child eager for a story.

Lin blinked and couldn't help but laugh a bit, but she did regale Ulani of how they were making their way to the last city on their trip when it all began. How they had just gotten into the city when it started, fortunately she had gotten off the horse mere moments before it started.
Senka then added that Lin had passed out about around that time, all the while adding how gross it was to sprout wings. Mainly the part about blood and plasma, in which Lin pointed out she heard that Senka had avoided all of that but Tinuviel was not as lucky.
"I don't know how much of what Senka is saying isn't embellishment," Lin admitted as she was nearing the end of her story, "Only that I woke up in the healer's house having little clue of what just happened."

Kaito grinned at Lin. "I was there, and it sounds pretty accurate to me," he winked. "Honestly, it was kind of gross."
Ulani leaned back and smiled at Lin. "I remember when your mother fledged ... that was such a long time ago now, before she and your father were married. She slept for days ..."

"See! You have to be related, that's soooooooooooo late to fledge," Senka pointed a paw at Lin.
Lin gave her cat a look, though even she had to admit when her mother fledged (both times) it was really late in life. It did sound like a genetic thing except...
"I came out of a vase," Lin told her cat deadpanned, "I slept the rest of the day, it isn't that bad except the added weight throws your whole body off balance for a while."

Ulani laughed at Senka. "As interesting a thought as that is, I assure you that Lin is adopted, just as any others of the children besides Faith and Hope," she grinned. She laughed again. "That said, it is amazing how much like Kara and Donovan Lin is."
She shivered a bit and got up to add some more wood to the fire. "At any rate, you're welcome to stay here ... though I imagine you knew that already. I'll just get this room a bit warmer, and then I'll add some blankets to the spare beds."

"Thanks Ulani," Lin replied gratefully.
Staying where they were would be easier than going back and forth between the ranch and valley, and with the way things were a lot safer as well.
"It might be a bit hard getting to sleep, but at least we'll be warm."
They were still running on morning time.

"I won't have trouble sleeping," Kaito grinned, turning his back to the fire and spreading his wings slightly to warm them up. "But that's just me, and you know that."
Ulani smiled. "You'll be warm, I promise you," she said softly. She added a few more logs to the fire, made sure they were catching, and then she headed off down the hall to fetch the promised blankets.

Lin shook her head as she watched Ulani head down the hall for the blankets.
"I don't know how you manage to have so much energy and yet sleep so easily."
Though she was pretty sure it was from his catty qualities but still!

Kaito grinned cheekily at Lin. "Ask Senka. You know she naps just like I do."
It gave him an advantage over just about anyone else who traveled the worlds: it didn't matter what time it was when he left or arrived, he was always able to adjust immediately.

Lin glanced over at Senka who was already napping judging by the way she was breathing deeply. It seemed like Senka had already fallen asleep despite the fact it hadn't been that long ago itwas morning.
"I think she's already sleeping."

Kaito chuckled softly. "Then I rest my case."
Ulani returned then and smiled at the two. "The beds are ready, if you would like to retire," she murmured. "If not, then I'm going to be up for a while. Ulrich is keeping watch tonight, I never rest well when he's not with me."

Lin understood what Ulani meant, especially now it must make things quite tense she thought to know trouble could be around the corner.
"Great," Lin murmured getting up from her spot, "I should at least try to sleep otherwise I won't be very much awake to do anything tomorrow."
Might be a bit easier said than done though.
