SPARTAN 108 made sure his modified BA55, with silencer attachment, was ready to go as he and his eleven ODST's in the aft compartment of Echo 601 headed towards their next objective. He went over their mission once more: Bug the Covenant COM system, create a relay point so the messages are sent to the Armengald, and don't get caught. Sounded simple enough. He and another Marine hooked up their lines to their harnesses. The hatch opened slowly, revealing how high up they actually were, and he looked over to see how far down they'd have to rapel. They weren't even fourty feet above the structure when he threw the rest of his cable down. He slung his rifle, gripped his line, and jumped out of the aft section, sliding down the cable, which was slightly stressed under the weight of his armor. He tightened his grip on it to slow his descent as he neared the ground. He quickly released it after his boots met the metal covering they had chosen for their LZ, removed the harness from his armor, and unslung his rifle, moving away to make room for the next Marine as he scanned the immediate area. He looked back in time to see the second pair of ODST's hit the ground and help set up a perimeter. He looked around, quickly spotted the dish the Covenant were using to send their messages, and quickly signaled for his team to secure it. Once the last Marine set foot on the structure, the line was cut, and the Pelican's pilot no longer had to struggle with keeping it stable as it lifted up and flew off in the general direction of Alpha Base.

Tom must have hit the poor hunter 40 times with the end of his shotgun before he was sure he had killed it. Once he was absolutely sure he had killed it, he went over to the elites and took one of the plasma rifles, as well as the four grenades they had 'left behind'. He had heard gunshots from over by a smaller rock, so he ran over there.
When he arrived he slung his sniper rifle over his shoulder and took aim at a jackal that had just walked into eyesight. "hello, gentlemen, nice weather we're having, what with the nuclear explosions and all." He fired and the jackal fell with a piercing scream that was heard throughout the pass.

We have to dog tags and we are falling back. Over and out. He started to fall back calling to Gapenski "We are getting out of here. Lets go" he walked backwards fireing at grunts running up the slope. They were back over and to a safer point in about eight minutes.

Tom followed, switching to his pistol so he could shoot them quicker. He had just run out of ammo when he reached their safe point.
He took his time reloading, and appraised the other marines he had met. They looked quite good at their jobs, so he merely said, "hello." again.
Tom laughed at himself in his own head for saying something stupid like that. The result in the outside world was that his eyes got a little wider, and he started to grin a little.

The SPARTAN sighed as he waited for Master Sergeant Hallick to finish toying with an electronic circuit that leads to the Covenant communication dish. He never enjoyed standing still and doing nothing, so he decided to multi-task. He left the Sergeant in charge of what would be considered Blue Team for now. He chose five ODST's for him in Red Team to head into the structure to find its control center. He and his team left behind the six other Marines as they headed inside. They had found no resistance outside of the structure, but that didn't mean they weren't here. There had to be something here, since this is one of their more important COM stations.
They cautiously walked through each corridor, their rifles raised as they moved. He was on point, with a four-Marine square behind him, and a tail-gunner behind them. Besides the gentle hum of distant machinery, everything else was silent. He tensed as the door they were about to go through opened. This wouldn't be a bad thing, but he knew they were too far away for it to have sensed them. The Grunt on the other side, however, was close enough. It barely had time to squeel once, before he pulled the trigger. The weapon coughed and the round hit the Grunt squarely in the face, causing it to topple over backwards and the door to close once more. He quickly pushed forward, checking the passage beyond to see if anyone was with the Grunt, and was glad when he found no allies. He policed the Plasma Pistol the creature had dropped and moved to the next room. They eventually opened a door to a room filled with holographic images and control panels that would float in mid-air. He quickly guessed that this was the control room they were searching for, and was about to order his men into the room when the camoflauged Elite opened fire.
He quickly snapped his rifle up and fired a three-round-burst into where the shots seemed to be coming from, missing the Elite entirely. The Elites shots, however, were much more accurate. Microproccesors in his armor whined as they attempted to compensate for the heat that was spreading across his faceplate and chest. An alarm shrilled in his ear as the super-heated plasma was causing his shield to fail quickly, and he had no choice but to jump to the side to give it time to regenerate. He did remember that he had allies with him, which he quickly ordered into action. "Marines! Suppressive Fire!" They didn't argue as two of the ODST's kneeled down in front of two others, and all four opened fire. The control room was filled with armor piercing rounds, which impacted on the Elite that wasn't there, and caused blood to materialize out of no where. The Elite howled in agony as it appeared, it's camo-generator failing after taking a hit, and tried to grip the bullet wound in it's chest before being taken down for good. His shield had recovered, and he quickly took advantage of that and moved in on the corpse with his rifle raised, checking to make sure it was not only dead, but the only one in the room. He had his team move in, lock the door into the control room, and begin what they were sent in to do. Another tech specialist in his team, James West, moved to one of the control panels and began randomly toying with it...at least, that's what it looked like to him. He didn't care, as long as he planted their relay and hid it from the Covenant in their COM system.

After their little 'bug' was in place in the COM system, it was time for the easiest part of their mission: The escape. They double-timed it back to the surface, only slowing when they met another Grunt, but it quickly fell under the force of his rifle butt. After they made it back to the upper structure, they met up with Blue Team, who had also successfully bugged the communications dish. Now, all they needed was their ride home.

He switched on his COM and made a direct conect to Twombley "Sir this is PFC Howie and Gapenski, We have Navati's dog tags. Over and out" he switched the COM off. He and Gapenski were makeing their way to the base looking for Twombley to give him the tags.

Tom followed, waiting for anything to pop out of the shadows. But it seemed that the covenant were kind of frightened to go back into the pass, because of the unexplained explosion.

He stopped and pulled out his battle rifle. "You go take them to twombley I wanna kill more of these stupid little bastards." He crouched and turned on the scope of his battle rifle and started picking off the grunts who were moving towards the mine field. Stopping for a coule of seconds he looks around and pulls out a cig lighting it and takes a puff and starts shooting grunts more rapidly.

Lieutenant Twombley hadnt responded to PFC Howie's message because he had been busy with other things, but he had heard it and was glad to have heard it. Things were starting to turn against the covenant in this battle. The Lieutenant had pondered many blunders, as he thought, the Covenant battle command were executing. It seemed to him as though the Covenant thought they would simply be able to overwhelm Alpha Base by sheer numbers, with the support of Wraiths and Shadows that were only able to come onto the butte through the southern pass, which so far had proved ineffective against machine gun nests with the support of Marine Scorpions. For now though, the Southern Pass that he had taken responsibility to defend was 'inaccessible' to the Covenant ground forces...
