Svarly waved a hand, "For the most part you're being redundant. I know what a face card is, as well as the point system, hits and good amount of the rest involved in black jack. Haven't seen the second part of the game before though. So in part two do we get a new two cards or do we keep the same ones from the previous round? And do we state which card we're betting on and how? Or are we required to default bet on our own card?"

The woman rolled her eyes briefly. "Just said that. Same cards, but we tally up both parts after the second part, so I don't see your facedown card before the betting. You state "north" or "south" for which table card your betting on, or that you're betting on your own if you're betting on your own, and then the dealer opens the betting with lowest currency. You can bet on whatever you want."

"What seems to be the issue, Doctor? You know, I'm sure, that the Empire is currently at war."

((By the way... when I bring up a game, it only serves two purposes: 1) So that we're not just sitting here chatting when there could be action, 2) As a holding pattern. In other words, it's a several-post stall for time so I can think of something more interesting. I'm still working on the More Interesting Thing, but I swear I'll come up with something eventually. Maybe.))

The woman rolled her eyes and put the cards back in the deck. "Let's play with a different deck. This one's a little plain." She put the first deck away and pulled out one with an intricate pattern of vines on the back, appeared to think about it, then put that away as well and pulled out one with a bright green cardback. The number "42" was in the center of the green, the 4 colored rusty red and the 2 colored a dusty blue. "Do you know of the bard, by the way? Died young and fortuneless, sadly, but his works are classic."

She re-dealt the cards while she asked. The fronts of the cards only had the number and suit in the upper left corner, while the other corners had strange symbols and the center of each card contained a small painting. Svarlena's faceup card was the Ace of Hearts, with an image of an ancient biplane pilot dancing in the wind. Her facedown card was the Two of Diamonds, with a painting of Xeen. The black woman's faceup card was the Seven of Spades, showing shackled prisoners, and the faceup card in the center was the Three of Clubs, showing a woman split in two halves--her left half was sullen and depressed, dressed as a traditional scientist, and her right half was friendly and slightly mischievous, dressed in bright purple and holding a crossbow.

((It's fine, I haven't been thinking up anything interesting for a while, myself.))
Svarly shook her head. "No, never heard of the bard. Should I?" She glanced at her cards, before turning her eyes back up to Brighid. "Interesting deck you have here."

((the card deck is fun. I guessed what it was, which was why I had Svarl ask about it. ))

Svarly shook her head, "don't recognize anyone, just thought it was rather fancy for a deck of cards." She nodded back to the set cards, "hit, by the way. And what the hell is this fox and owl stuff?"
