Jake opened his eyes lazily. He was back on the table he started on. He sat up and looked around the kitchen again. He noticed his flintlock, hatchet and knife but made no move towards the, he wanted to avoid them. He closed his eyes for a moment but opened them with a horrified look on his face.

"Your memory isn't being very friendly to you is it?" Captain Angie Trey asked a bit concerned. She offered him a drink of ale, since he needed it to keep from becoming dehydrated since he'd been at sea for who knows how long without proper food and drink. She sat on the edge of the table, taking note that she should probably hide his weapons from him.

He took the glass and looked at it for a second before downing it in one gulp. He exhaled loudly and his throat and mouth burned from finally getting something wet to drink. He said nothing and did not look anywhere but to the floor in front of him.

Captain Angie took the cup and put it away. She stood by him and said, "I'm giving you one day to recover, relax, and think. Then I'm not going to be easy on you. After that your part of the crew until you make your decision to stay on or leave at the next port. I have no time to baby someone, and trust me, I will if you remain a problem. I'll show you to the crew barracks and show you where you can sleep, I'll tell the crew to leave you be, but I have to expect you to not stir up any trouble on my ship. Got it?"

"Why?" He still stared at the floor. "Why did you save me? Why didnt you just let me die? Why would you risk your life for me?"

"Because, its not my right to let someone die while I have the chance to save them." Captain replied after a moment, touching the pocket with the picture of her mudered husband.

"But you have no idea, you saved a monster. You saved a horrible person." He looked at a blank space in the wall. "I can see them, all of them, as I rip and tear into them. They scream for mercy and I pay no attention. I remember this one small boy.... He was running, I told him I would let him live if he ran. Then I laughed as I shot him."

Angie flinched at what he said, but replied, "But you can change that now. Everyone deserves a second chance, and a fresh start. Why else would half my crew be here other than to begin a new life, to forget the old one, and begin a new?"

"But shouldnt I pay for what Ive done?" He looked with glazed over eyes at her. "Is there no justice for them, just because Im sorry for it now?" He looked back at the musket. "Can I really hope to make up for anything Ive done with the rest of my life?" He mumbled to himself.

"It is unjust that you are not going to pay, but justice is never served in this world." Angie said, a hint of anger rising in her voice as memories came flooding back of her dead husband, then she added, "Justice will be done to you by your memory. You will suffer, at the memory of what you did. That will be enough. You'll always feel undeserving, like you dont deserve even to breathe. But you still have the right to live, to try and make for the unjustice of this world by making yourself suffer more than you ought too."

He nodded slightly. He walked over to the musket and picked it up, looking at it for a few moments. He knew he was guilty, but the only way he could try to retribute for any of his sins, he would have to use the tools he was good with. He sighed as he grabbed the musket and went back towards the table, eyeing the captain. "Do you really believe people like me should be able to have a second chance? The type of people who are more beast then man?"

"I believe its the way God intended. As long as you feel sorry for what you did. Now you best get some rest, and I'll take care of your weapons until your recovered alright?" She said it kindly, but picked up his other two weapons, and held out her hand, insinuating for him to give her the musket, just in case he fainted and the trigger went off.

He was hesitant at first but did not object. He handed the musket to her and waited to follow her.

"Follow me." Angie said, taking the musket and walking to the downstairs barracks for the crew.

He was silent as he followed her. He was quite tired. As he walked behind her, he looked around at the parts of the boat he saw. He also saw all the crew eye him as the walked past them.
