Daeron smiled once more, calm again, then waved. "At dinner," he agreed cheerfully. He bowed his head at Lore, then returned to his work.

Earendil chuckled at Lin. "Yes, that's why we don't get any," he agreed. "I think it would be nice to see it once, but I can do that if I ever end up traveling. Thing is, if I do I would probably end up missing visits from you, and Mother would be most upset with me, so it's probably safer for me just to stay here anyways. Besides," he laughed, winking at her, "if I went anywhere, you wouldn't have anyone to play with here."

Lin clutched at Earendil's shirt, no, it would not do for her to be alone and find him gone. She had never considered the fact that one day he might just moved one.

"You wouldn't leave me behind right?" she asked.

"See you soon," Lore nodded

He let Elnara lead again once again, since he didn't know where this place they were talking about was.

As she led Lore down the hall towards the stairs once more, Elnara linked her arm with his and walked with her head on his shoulder. She was quiet now, thoughtful, and the expression on her face was one of sadness and contemplation.

Earendil smiled and bounced Lin a bit to make her feel better.

"No," he told her seriously, "I would never leave you behind, not if I could help it. But the thing is, someday soon, I have to find a job, something to do with my life besides always training and just playing. There really isn't much for me to do around the castle, and one of the best choices for me would be to travel ..."

He sighed. On the one hand, he did want to travel - he wanted to see the world, make a name for himself - but on the other hand, he wanted to stay here, with his mother, his sister, his brother (when he was around), the rest of his family ... and Lin. He would miss her way too much if he didn't get to see her anymore. He'd grown far too used to her visits, the only excitement that ever happened anymore.

Lin looked thoughtful, she didn't want to arrive and find Earendil not there, but he would also need to do something too.

"What do you want to do?" she asked.

She kind of knew what she wanted to do, but only because she looked up to her father a great deal, but she hadn't ever thought about what Earendil wanted to do.

"Something wrong?" Lore asked softly.

He wondered if news about her Neko had bothered her a great deal, or seeing how Daeron and his father were getting along. It could be any of the two, or even could have to do with her other brother for all he knew.

It was a moment before Elnara replied, and when she did her voice was quiet, barely audible.

"All this time," she murmured softly, "when I was gone, I always thought about myself, my own situation, and Mother's, at times. I always thought ... well, that it was terrible, what my family had done to me, even though I ended up far happier than I could ever have imagined because of it. Not once ... not once, even after I was told that Gion left home because of my brothers, did I ever stop to think about what things might have been like here, what might have happened to my family."

She bit her lip anxiously. "I thought that ... since Gion had left, the others would all be fine ... I never gave them a second thought." She looked up at Lore worriedly. "Does that mean I'm selfish? Uncaring? Thinking only about myself, my own situation, and not even thinking about people who I knew had had some trouble?"

"I really don't know," Earendil admitted sheepishly. "I mean, someday I'd like to travel a bit, I suppose ... I'm no good with metallurgy, so I can't work in the armoury like my father; I don't know the first thing about leatherworking, so I can't take Uncle Riordan's old position ... I like books all right, but only for short periods of time ..."

He shrugged. "I really don't know."

He turned his gaze towards the sun, and his eyes glowed with some sort of inner desire.

"Sometimes," he murmured, "I think about the sea ..."

"You mean going on a boat?" Lin asked looking up at him, "Like going and sailing or do you mean swimming."

It sounded like a grand adventure to her actually, to go and visit somewhere. Her mother had done it all the time before she had children.

"Elnara, you could not have foreseen something like this happening," Lore replied back softly, "You left, if I recalled correctly thinking that there would not be people who would defend you like that. Could you predict that Daeron would be so... opinionated? Or that your brother would do such a thing to be thrown out of home and city?"

He raised a brow, he was sure those were aspects that most would not consider in happening.

"I knew my grandmother would defend me," Elnara murmured, "but no one else ... no, I knew Gion would. Perhaps not right at that moment, but when I thought about it. He knew for a few days beforehand what I am, and he ... as far as I know, he always knew about Mother ... but ... I really had no idea it would split the family so violently."

She shuddered involuntarily.

"As for Riordan," she went on, "he's the last one I would have expected anything like this from. It's true that I didn't know him very well, but he was the kind of person ... honour was everything to him. He would rather have died than dishonoured himself ... or the family."

She shook her head. "No, would never have expected anything so ... so foolish from him."

"In a ship," Earendil nodded. "I think it would be wonderful."

Still, that would mean he would be away from home for even longer ...

He smiled. "Tell you what," he said suddenly. "Why don't I just wait until you're all grown up, too, and then you could come with me? What do you think?"
PostPosted: Sat Nov 10, 2007 9:13 pm

"Really?" Lin thought about it, "I would like that and then we could go on adventures and see all sorts of stuff."

Though she wasn't really sure what travelling by sea was like to be honest, but she was willing to at least give it a try.

"And I think..." Lore murmured, "To an extend, at least not including Daeron's case, what Riordan did made things worse. As for Daeron, it is difficult, but I think for him more difficult because he is his father's son. It's always more difficult when you're the younger."

As he noticed time and again in history.

"Even if you had thought about it, I don't think you would have thought these sort of things would have happened."
