I enjoy doing some things differently, such as upgrading different weapons at different times, and trying to play well. Of course, I play it and then don't touch it for months and months so I forget some details. Still, it is fun to work around and get the really fun things (natural camouflage).

I also very rarely choose to harvest the little sisters. I understand that there is a difference between the endings, and the extra Adam to get genetic modifiers is nice, but I don't like the feeling of killing them. I VASTLY prefer to help others and rescue the little ones. I'm just a nice guy at heart. Playing hero, helping others, that is my schtick.

Yeah, keeping a baalnce is important.

I agree with you there. It seems like such an obvious choice not to (morally, and mechanically given the small impact).

Well, there is a significant increase in Adam, so you have more choices for upgrades sooner . . . but there have been studies to determine heroic actions in games. Those that choose moral choices and act heroic tend to act better in real life. That, and every single time I have harvested a little sister, despite the lack of squish and the censorship of green and black on the whole screen . . . it just made me feel bad to do it.

I like saving them.

Oh, from the impression I got, I had thought the mechanical impact of that choice wasn't as big. Then again, I always get Adam and Eve confused when people talk about that game.

Yes, 'tis a good thing to do.

ADAM is the strange substance that allows you to gain powers and rewrite your own genetic code. It is the form of 'currency' that you use to purchase abilities, or upgrade current powers (called plasmids). Adam is only gained through little sisters . . . either by saving them or harvesting them. When one is harvested, you get significantly more. When one is saved, you begin to be rewarded periodically by the woman that is endeavoring to save them all. The story of the game is not changed either way, and only those very few characters that interact with you (the woman saving them, and the man guiding you) speak any differently to you.

The major difference is in the ending. Save them all, and you get the good ending where you live a long life and are surrounded by the girls you saved through their lives- and yours.

Harvest them all, and Rapture becomes your own army as you take over and have a city full of superpowered crazy mutated people at your discretion to take on the surface world.

Save some, but not all, and you get the bad ending- but the voiceover is not angry . . . but sad. Same script, but the tone is that of a person disappointed and sad.

damned good game. I don't want to spoil things . . . but here is a nice little pic I got the other day, all Bioshock/Bioshock II/Bioshock Infininte related. I will gladly explain anything you are curious about.

That's right, and eve is the mana bar for use of said abilities.

Oh yes, I'm quite familiar w/ the plot and endings already thanks to an IRL friend of mine. All the spoiler has been spoiled. wink

EDIT; Those are some pretty good pics, though the Infinite ones don't mean much to me since that same friend has yet to finish Infinite.

neutral Really? I blew through Infinite in less than a week, and that was not even hitting it as hard as I could. That game was dismally short in my opinion.

He's in no rush, and Bioshock has been out for a lot longer than Infinite. He likes Infinite, but prefers 1 (which may be why he's lollygagging). That and he tends to jump from game to game, so sometimes a game can get shelved for a while.

Well, B1 is a really good game. I am almost to Andrew Ryan in my playthrough now. Soon, I will be going after Frank Fontaine.

BI is nice in that it gave more character to the person you play as, but the real shining gem is Elizabeth. She is a perpetual escort mission . . . that suddenly becomes awesome.

Okay, good, so you know all the spoiler for B1 now. I was worried I might spoil something for you earlier.

Yeah, Elizabeth seems like a very well-done character. As a companion character, she's similar to Alex from the Half-Life series.

Oh, I have beaten the Bioshock games several times, and enjoy them. Still, I think my favorite bit is the Bioshock 2 DLC "Minerva's Den." that game puts you in a different part of Rapture- the titular area, where all the computing and computer controlled actions are centralized. All the doors that automatically open, the lights, the air circulation, the power regulation, sensors, computers, all of it goes through Minerva's Den. You play as "Sigma," a similar Big Daddy to the character you play in Bioshock 2. The story is great, has a wonderful twist, and a really good ending.

As for Elizabeth, she was a massive challenge to create, and it shows. She is complex, and very well written. on that note . . .

Ryan is dead, Frank Fontaine is revealed, and now to the worst part of the game . . . the protector trials. ugh.

Oh, you've already played through it before.
I haven't witnessed any DLC (as far as I know), but I have seen most of vanilla B2.

That middle pic is a riot.

To some degree I wish the Fontaine fight came right after the Ryan scene and the game ended. The gameplay after Ryan just feels so tacked on to me.
PostPosted: Mon Jul 29, 2013 3:51 pm

Just finished the game this morning. Again.

I really didn't mind the time going after Fontane. Going after Ryan was all about powering up and taking down a tyrant. Going after Fontane was about your own freedom and identity- breaking free from WYK, becoming a Big Daddy to call upon little sisters, and working with the german woman to make it happen.

I hate it when I forget a name but know it is in my head. >_<

Next, onto Bioshock 2!!!

side note- got the new computer. Migrating files and then to learn how to use Windows 8.

I have no qualms with the story reasons for it. I was merely speaking of gameplay.

Enjoy being Alpha and trying to find your "daughter!"

Awesome, though I would personally recommend switching back to 7 if possible.
