"Plus if I'm going to marry Angel at some point, I thought it'd probably be a good idea to attempt bonding with her brother that's going to eviscerate me if I screw up."

Alek laughed quietly. "And for the record, I don't ever kill anyone. I find it much more satisfying to torture them, especially if they hurt one of my family." He grinned. "Not a threat to you, by the way. My little Angel's feelings are quite safe with you."

Riley perked up and sniffed the air a bit. He turned to see Van and Mala emerge from the trees. "Angel's right, you do smell good." he said looking up at Van, who raised a confused eyebrow at him before he could say anything.
