"I want my lawyer," Yang said. "I'm not telling you anything."

"Lawyer? Does it look like we want to deal with a lawyer right now, Mr. Yang? We don't give you a lawyer in an unrecorded interrogation for which there is no official record. Now listen. I can do whatever it takes to get this information and I'm not leaving here without it," Anatoly replied tersely. "Now, I'm going to ask you again: how do you two get in contact?"

Hawke shifted a bit as Yang stared his son down. After a while, he sighed.
"He would send me a letter containing the meeting details with the client. No address, no anything. I've had them all scanned for some kind of forensic evidence, but no dice."

"I see. Your cooperation is appreciated. If we needed to appear to be a buyer or a seller, how would we do so? Was there any pattern to meeting places? We need any information that can help us track these people down, and... well, Ithaca won't forget any willingness to render assistance to our efforts."

"There's a cafe," Yang said slowly, warily. "That's where they usually go to buy and sell." He gave an address; it was on the other side of town.
Hawke moved to leave, waiting for Anatoly to go first.

"If the information is good, we'll remember. Thank you..." Anatoly inhaled inaudibly. "Mr. Yang, for your cooperation." Can't get sloppy now. "Let's go, Commander."
Outside, he slumped against a wall as the door closed behind him. "I'm glad he cooperated... I... I don't know if I could've brought myself to go as far as my superiors might have needed me to otherwise...."

Nathan was still testing how badly his feet hurt. It wasn't all that terrible; they just felt unused, even though it had only been a night. He passively observed as Sarah checked for a man who wasn't there - or wasn't there when he looked. There was no reason to discount his existence, and they were being hunted.
"I suggest we get in my car and we leave. If we're being followed, we can deal with that easily enough. My feet are in a good enough condition to drive, and I'd like to." Nathan pushed on his glasses, cracked his neck, and let out a deep breath. "We'll need to catch up with Anatoly sooner or later."

Hawke nodded and patted him on the shoulder. "That's fine. You did good work in there, Agent Yang. Now, are we off to that cafe? You might want to get the girl and tell her we're leaving."
---
Sarah caught a glimpse of the man outside as they moved to pack, but he was gone when she double checked.

Sarah and the group had nearly gotten everything packed in the car when she saw the mysterious man again. "Damnit, he's pissing me off," she murmured. She tossed the keys over to Nathan, "Sure you can drive. Just don't get us killed." She was about to sit in the passenger's front seat, but she paused. C'mon. Just one more look around to find that guy. She growled, "I'm tired of seeing that guy around. Someone wanna come with me for one more round of searching?" It would really suck if this guy continued to follow them.

"Let the others get our stuff to the car," Nathan suggested as he caught the keys. "Or finish packing, I suppose. This should only take a second. I'll go with you, c'mon," he told her, limping out into the hallway. His Fire Mysticker was on one side of his collarbone, his Medusa on the other; both were hidden by his shirt.
"Now, we don't have long, so let's just poke around the hallway and maybe the stairs. Failing that, we go back and we get in the car and we leave, fast."

The hallway was clear, aside from a couple moving out at the far end. Sarah and Nathan moved to the stairs, looking cautiously up and down them, but that too was clear.
It was when they turned around to go back to the car that they saw the man. More than that, they felt him, since he was less than two feet away. Before either of them could move or say anything, he reached out and grabbed both by the throat.

"Yeah... yeah, we should," Anatoly agreed. Time to milk the tension and drama for all it's worth. "How do you... how do you decide what's right, when everything you've ever learned about morality and ethics says one thing, and government policy and your superior officers say another? How do you decide? How do you say, 'This is where the line is drawn' or that something is acceptable?"

Sarah was ready to let out a whole slew of curses, but her throat was being choked by the annoying son of a b***h. One hand went to the guy's wrist and tried clenching it in hopes of getting him to let go. The other hand went straight into her pant pocket and pulled out her butterfly knife. Unless he let go of her (or Nathan), he was going to find himself dealing with a very nasty cut.

He did not release either of them, and Sarah slashed at his wrist viciously. Unfortunately, this did not work out at all how she had expected.
The knife bounced off his skin without even making an indentation. His grip tightened and Sarah's head began to swim. This was making no sense!
---
Hawke shook his head sadly. "That's it, my friend. That's just it. There's no way to know. It comes with experience; usually hard, dark experience. It hasn't been easy for any of us. You'll get there one day."
He waited for Anatoly to exit.

"I wish things weren't so complex at times," Anatoly commented as he did so.
