Also I learned today that gamers are pretty much 50% male and 50% female. so gamur gurlsz should stfu about how special they are. Female game designers, on the other hand, only make up 3% of all game designers and that is pretty sad. The only females I can even think of who are in the game industry are either music composers or localizers. I think that if gamers are half male and half female, then it only makes sense for the people who make the games to be at least kind of balanced! Maybe that will just change with time?

I'm not sure why you're going after "gamer gurlz" with this fact. Other groups need this pointed out way more.

The industry is really terrible about realizing that their audience's gender ratio is pretty even. You mentioned that there aren't a lot of women in game design (and the women who do work in the industry end up dealing with a lot of sexism if #1reasonwhy is any indication), but this is also an industry that still has problems with things like making the main character a woman. Some of the companies have realized that their games are being enjoyed by more than straight white 15-25 year old men, and some of them have done better jobs on making their games and companies more inclusive, but I'd wager that part of why some female gamers talk about how special they are is because that's exactly the idea that the industry presents to them.

And while the worst part of the "gamer gurlz" can be annoying, I don't find them anywhere near as awful as the dudebros and MRAs who get mad if you even suggest that video games and the community are less than perfect in their treatment of women. The people who send rape and/or death threats because someone tries to talk about sexism in games, or because the other player is a woman (but it's okay because she was totally flaunting her female-ness by speaking in a female voice). The people who defend the use of bigoted slurs because 'it's part of gaming culture'. The people who are the loudest in most gaming-focused spaces and reinforce the industry's belief that the main audience is straight white 15-25 year old men. There are a lot of gamers that aren't part of the problem (and plenty who want to see these things fixed), but the most vocal part of the community is completely terrible.

I also don't really see the point in getting mad about "gamer gurlz" talking about how special they are for being women who like video games because that's overwhelmingly been something I've seen done by people who are new and excited about discovering something new. If you give most of them a couple of years, they'll either decide that they're not that interested in gaming and move onto something else, or get more into the medium and outgrow a lot of their earlier, more annoying behaviors. I know I was guilty of a lot of these things when I first got into anime and manga (not so much thinking I was special, but I did a lot of talking about stuff that I clearly knew nothing about). Help them realize that they're not special, sure, and call them out on it if they keep acting like that, but getting mad at them for being excited about something new is a bad way to keep them interested in video games.

I don't find people who flaunt that they're amazing for being girls AND playing games too often, and you may be right that they're only doing that because they're new. Maybe I should cut them some slack, as annoying as it is.

It just bothers me that the term "girl gamer" even exists. We don't go around saying "boy gamer" even though just as many of them are around.
I also hate how each time I use my microphone in this one online FPS, there's ALWAYS that one guy who has to make a big deal about me being a woman. They're never really mean about it, but I really don't like that extra attention and it makes me feel uncomfortable and like if I mess up, they'll blame it on my being a woman. There's also the risk that the particularly stupid ones will start trying to hit on me even though they don't know anything else about me. I NEVER talk on the mic if my boyfriend isn't playing as well, so he can tell people off if it starts to get to be too much because some people only take a man's voice seriously. It's pretty ridiculous.

Whether it be from men or women, I just don't like the idea of any gamer getting special treatment because of their gender, whether that treatment be bad or good. I wish we would all be treated equally and that we'd be able to enjoy all of the same privileges, regardless of what kind of game we're playing. And yeah, game designers should try to treat us more equally, too, because they can create unfriendly environments. Maybe if they added female avatars to FPSes, it could help? It just feels a bit like a boys-only club when games ONLY have male characters. When a male avatar pipes up with a high-pitched voice, it draws attention. I'm not really seeing issues like this in games other than online FPSes regardless of the minority of female developers, but that may be because I mostly just stick to Nintendo games, which are made to appeal to everybody anyway. Not to mention, even if a female enjoys an offline game that's clearly been made by guys for guys, it's no big deal because she doesn't have to deal with harassment for it. It would just be nice to know that more than 3% of people making these games are female, because that's just unnecessarily small.

For some reason I can't play DDR anymore. I was never good at the arcades because of the hard buttons that are worn out and that you have to hit hard and wear shoes on, but at home I have a soft, sensitive dance mat and the PS2 version. I was able to full combo some songs on difficult, or at least get an A or B or something! I'm playing it again today for the first time in awhile (but not like over a year or anything), on a different TV, and I ******** got a D on a beginner-level song. It was a song I'd full combo'd on difficult. In fact, I get a D or fail on every song that I try, on any difficulty and it's really frustrating because I have no idea what's wrong. I tried two different dance mats. I tried barefoot and socks. I changed the picture on my TV to see if it's lag or something, but that didn't help. GJEKLSFJLKSDJF

Have I just mentally or physically lost it and no one's telling me?? I've taken pretty long breaks from DDR and returned to still be decent, and it would just not make sense for it to be because I'm out of practice. I can hear that I'm hitting it along with the beat.

Arghhh it's probably this TV -___-

It's probably the tv. I had the same problem a couple of years ago. Isn't there an option on the main menu that lets you check the timing?

what kind of TV is it? i could probably look it up and find settings to change for gaming.

my Samsung smart TV jsut ahs a game mode settings. disables everything that causes frame and audio delay cool

just sucks trying to turn it on while you in the middle of a hunt on MH3U online, "i totally blocked before that why is it so delayed! ohhhhhhhhhhh s**t gotta turn that s**t on!"

i hope smart TV's evolve to just detect that kinda stuff. that'd be neat.

I remember getting a D* on that one Junior Senior song in DDR Extreme. The * denotes that you didn't miss get anything less than great, which is a combo.
