FrozenPhoenix32 speaking of which. Do our Knights get apprentices? A good question, indeed. 3nodding And, I'd like to talk about cortosis, which is a good call on DA's part, btw. ^^ Now, as a material for lightsaber construction, what effects do cortosis have on lightsabers, exactly, and what would the pros and cons be? Perhaps some sort of internal insulation from the cortosis, to allow it to work? Or, are there other factors at work?

I asked Nelo if Angel could have her saber made with cortosis, and he allowed it, but is also allowing anyone else the same thing if they want, to be fair.
I don't think even cortosis could stand up to a warhead or 2, and if nothing else, even though you can't break the saber, it doesn't mean you can't disarm the person using it.

Quite true. One must put their noggin to work to figure out the ways of disarming a Jedi. Granted, there's the obvious way, as seen in AotC, ESB and RotJ. But, I imagine that such would not do for the purposes of RPs. sweatdrop
Would a counter-levitate work, such as a tossed saber being caught in the hand, enabling the catcher to confiscate the weapon? I shall think of more, as time goes on ... bring on the disarm challenge! whee

there's the trick a character of mine did... toss blaster packs at 'em and squeeze the packs with the force. it can cause damage unblockable by a lightsaber, and is a rare tactic, so it's likely to be a surprise...
and best of all, no lightsaber required! =D

I've also wondered if a Levitate-able Jedi/Sith would be able to try to use that power on their opponent's saber and try to rip it from their grasp that way. There's the issue of whether or not the person can resist it though. Example: They hold on tightly to their saber so it doesn't fly outta their hands, or if they also can use Levitate, use it and do a tug-of-war bit with it.
I'm more interested in whether or not you could do this: * jumps on a piece of debris the size of a surfboard, uses levitate on it while standing on it and " surfs " around 3 meters above the ground * Because that could be cool.

As for catching the lightsaber out of mid air, i think this is the reason why.
To wrentch control of someone using the force needs an equal or more powerful usage. Often, one cannot just do this without bodily motion, even with simple tasks, such as the mind trick or any force power.
It requires some movement. And these are for powers that are NOT being resisted.
If someone was throwing a saber, they'd be damned if they'd let it get out of their grasp. So someone would probably need to shove an arm or two out in front of them ot help channel the force. But by that time, the lightsaber is already at the one trying to catch it and well... no hands.
Unless you're like neb, who uses cortosis gloves. I added that for a special twist I plan on pulling one day, but also because he uses a strictly one handed sword, and so, some protection i thought would be fair.
As for levitating debris, and flying on it, I think its not so much as that its not possible, as it is not practical. I mean, a jedi would have to constantly focus on the rock, but moreso, he can't levitate himself. Meaning that the rock (or anything else) must remain perfectly flat. As well as the wind resistance and everything prohibit the use of such inadequate transportation. But if you were trying to get over a pit of molden lava and you didn't need to go terribly fast or high, i guess you could.

here's a question: what about Mandelorian Iron? in the EU this material was suposed to block lightsaber energy beams, though the Mandalorians have long lost the ability to make it.
