Lt. Brookman From the look of things only FW armies produced in the Imperial Armour books will remain unaffected by the removal of Doctrines. However, these lists are self-contained and do not use the parent codex. Armies in question are: - Elysian Drop troops (IA 3) - Mechanized Tallarn Desert Raiders (IA 3) - Elysian D-99 (IA 4) - Death Korps of Krieg siege company (IA 5) - Renegades and Heretics - Defenders of the Vraks (IA 6) - Renegades and Heretics - Servants of the Slaughter (IA 6) Though as a side note several of the doctrines in question are now useless, such as the Die-Hards doctrine used by the Death Korps of Krieg. hmmm... it will be interesting to see how they smooth this out...

Its already smoothed out, Bloodangles.Lt. Brookman However, these lists are self-contained and do not use the parent codex. As far as the doctrines going out of date, Forge World will likely correct the missing doctrines using an update that encompasses the lot of them.

FW is notorious for not producing proper corrections unless really pressed because of their own bungling i.e. Imperial Armour Apocalypse and its massive amount of typos and faulty datasheets.

Texinadawolf Does anyone know what is replacing the doctrines (if anything)? Mutable platoons. You can now upgrade whole platoons for certain tasks. Light Infantry platoons will have snipers, no heavy weapons and will be able to infiltrate. Mechanized platoons will have Chimera's and so on. The whole change list is as of yet unknown however Hardened Veterans will now be integral to an infantry platoon as will the AF squad. You can also attach tanks and other support units to an infantry platoon to make it benefit from the platoon drill rule, which allows IG platoons to ignore the 4+ cover save your enemy receives when shooting through friendly units of the same platoon as long as your platoon command squad is still alive.

New codices always mean that people will end up changing their army lists in some way. I for one know that I'm going to be looking forward to having all of my firing lines able to lay out some death without my enemy getting those 4+ cover saves.

This new codex, if what you claim is true, is going to be a God-sent for my dear Praetorians.
Battle lines and independent fire in the name of the Emperor!

What do you mean by "independent fire," Serebrate? All independent squads of Guardsmen have always been able to fire independently.

It's a line from the movie Zulu. It's a classic, it's really good if you've never seen it. The full quote is "South rampart, at one hundred yards volley fire...present...fire! Reload! Independent fire at will!"

Indeed. It derives from the British firing drills used during that age and era. You were only allowed to fire when told so by your sergeant. This had more to do with conservation of ammo than anything else though.

I was thinking of using a similar principle for my Praetorian. It makes sense to have ten dead enemies than twenty wounded ones.
I was actually thinking of writing a miniature codex for my Praetorians and collect some fluff then throw it on the series of tubes, since information is few and far between.

I play DKOK, (or steel legion proxies with GS stahlhelm conversions, I'm poor!) and Die hards was always rather useless for me. Fun trick! kill the enemy before they charge you! Oh, well, I usually swapped it for sharpshooters anyway(see: fun trick!). Nobody gave a damn. Doctrines for the pre-made regiments kinda blow. I could do without the heavy weapon squads and roughriders. (Not like anyone uses roughriders anyway)
I for one can't wait for the new list. I like the idea of the three russes as one HS choice!

I use rough riders. They're really fantastic units for only eight points.
It's too bad you can only use their hunting lances once.

It is indeed a sad thing. But, the fact that they're fast moving combat units at just over the cost of a standard guardsman makes them much more worth it. It really all just depends on what you'd need, though. I've used them fairly successfully in the past as quick protection at the front of my lines. When armed with meltabombs they make for decent anti-tank units too, though a bit too much of a glass cannon.
