"Okay!" Luca beamed, climbing into the car. "I'm glad you decided to come. I think Netflix has some indie movies."

"It does," Dari agreed. He could also name off the six that were currently being advertised on the front page of his feed, but that was neither here nor there. "You know, in all my life I've never been to someone else's house? I mean, it's been a fairly short life, but still."

"I've never had anyone at my house," Luca said. "Well. Apart from Lori." He paused. "How old are you?" he asked curiously. He started the car and they were headed to his apartment.

"Technically I'm not sure. Seven-and-something. Six, if you go by birthdays," Dari said. He decided not to ask why Luca had never had anyone else over, especially with how long he had lived in Arizona. Everyone had their reasons. "How are you and Lori, by the way? Well?"

"We're great!" Luca beamed. "He invited me over for thanksgiving, so I'll see you then. I've never really celebrated it before. It'll be nice."

"Oh, good! I'm glad to hear it. Thanksgiving is wonderful. I don't eat much any more but it's very warm and familial. Of course we already love you, but it's special to come to a holiday." He turned to Luca and smiled.
When they reached the elf's home, Dari was taking it all in; the building, the lobby, the stairs, the apartment itself. He loved seeing new things, and he hadn't seen the inside of many houses, just Toby's and Lori's and the occasional entity. They were actually able to find an independent film to watch, and Dari settled in as he ejected his project from his palm and showed it to Luca with a little wiggle of the fingers. "An internal light show."

Luca was fascinated. "That's how you do it?" he looked from Dari to the projector. "Awesome." He leaned back against the couch. "Tell me more about yourself, Dari," he invited.

"Only when I'm too lazy to paint myself up," Dari sad with a nod. It felt nice to be able to show his true form in someone else's home. He turned back to Luca then, not out of necessity but out of habit. "What would you like to know? I'm an open book; I keep no secrets."

"Do you remember anything about your planet?" Luca asked.

Dari nodded. "I do." he had a complicated relationship with his home planet and with Earth. Sometimes he didn't feel like he fit on either. "It was something like this. I can't speak for the atmosphere because my people don't generally breathe, but it was much like Earth. Green in places, rocky in others, but mostly flat. There was a small amount of water and no lack of creatures. Of course in modern times it's fairly technological. It had reached far beyond Earth's expectations by the time the flight took off. Intergalactic flight and all." He shrugged to Luca. "We only require certain components, though, so shops generally catered to those who couldn't be bothered to go looking. Resources were dwindling. They wanted to find a new planet that hosted the most potential for necessary components."

Luca was listening, his eyes focused on Dari. "Is that why you came here?" he asked. He gave Dari a small smile. "I lived in a forest in Ireland, till people started cutting it down to build houses with. Agents came and brought everyone here, but my parents went back as soon as they could."

Dari nodded. "Interesting. That was quite a while ago, wasn't it?" Longer than six years at the very least.
"Well, that is why the flight was routed here, yes, as far as I can remember. I was not personally a member of the flight crew, though. I, uh..." Oh, how to explain it... "When the ship lost pressurization, the crew... exploded." He felt a little sick even talking about it. "When we hit the ground and the Bureau came, it just looked like an empty ship spattered with black fluid, so they took a sample from the wall, not knowing it was a smattering of several people. I was that sample." This he did not share except with those he truly trusted, and if Luca was to be a good friend he might as well know.

Luca froze, his horror evident. So it hadn't been just a visit to earth--they'd crash landed and everyone had died. He scooted closer to Dari and wrapped arms around him in a hug. "I'm sorry they crashed," he said. "But I'm glad you're here." And without that crash, it sounded like Dari wouldn't have existed...

Dari smiled and returned the hug. It was meaningful and warm, and not in the way of temperature. It was a caring gesture from a friend.
"Thank you," he said, "and so am I." When the hug broke he was still smiling.

Luca paused, unsure what to say after the hug broke. "Want to watch another movie?" he suggested. "Or you can tell me about your job, if you like."
