fire-link i play marines, so im only really used to using any tactics more than "rush forward gunning everything" in cityfights only. which from my opponents experience, doesnt work with guard! My opponents strange idea to do that with Conscripts! 200 meat shields. *Shudders*

My opponents strange idea to do that with Conscripts! 200 meat shields. *Shudders* Can't you only take one platoon of conscripts for every infantry platoon you have? If so, that means he would have had four infantry platoons as well, or 8 troop choices? Is that the case? That's..insane, if so. Otherwise, AWESOME wall of men. twisted

Okay, Death Korps combat engineers are the new hard-cases of the Imperial Guard. They have heavy duty shotguns, mole mortars that fire land torpedo's and they can use gas grenades against the enemy. Engineers count as a Troops choice for Death Korps armies.
They also have at their disposal the Hades breaching drill that is armed with a melta-cutter and a power cutter, allowing engineer squads to arrive from the tunnel it has just dug. It works like deep striking but with pleasant surprises for the enemy.

They sound absolutely glorious. Are the Mole Mortars back to their old (2nd?) edition version with the alternate air and ground burst? Their rules sound amazing, too. I can see that "Breaching Drill Assaults" might become more common if the surprises are truly as pleasant as you say.

The Hades is a Krieg only thing, so unless you field it in Apocalypse you wont see many of them.
Let's just say that the Hades is a lumbering vehicle that can chew through bunkers, tanks and infantry with a str 10 power weapon that counts as a melta. It has zero armour so to say, so it's a one-shot wonder in most cases.
However, I will be getting a Hades this November along with more engineers and a Mole mortar, which is just a land torpedo that burrows through the ground and pops up at the location of the enemy.

Don't get too attached to Doctrines though, they will be removed with the next codex incarnation.

Here's hoping that the IG lists produced by FW won't become obsolete all of the sudden. Or else I'm going to miss my veteran Elysians and WS 4 Krieg Deaht Riders and Grenadiers.

From the look of things only FW armies produced in the Imperial Armour books will remain unaffected by the removal of Doctrines. However, these lists are self-contained and do not use the parent codex.
Armies in question are:
- Elysian Drop troops (IA 3) - Mechanized Tallarn Desert Raiders (IA 3) - Elysian D-99 (IA 4) - Death Korps of Krieg siege company (IA 5) - Renegades and Heretics - Defenders of the Vraks (IA 6) - Renegades and Heretics - Servants of the Slaughter (IA 6)
Though as a side note several of the doctrines in question are now useless, such as the Die-Hards doctrine used by the Death Korps of Krieg.
