Thanks for the reassurance, gals. I'd already been planning on taking a backpack for my carry-on. Tetravus, Zoe, and I did fly at Christmastime so I'd already seen how impractical it was to have a bag to carry. We barely managed and there were two of us. Of course, we also had the carseat and stroller that we wanted to gatecheck to deal with. This time if I have to take a carseat, I'll just check it with the luggage. My mom is considering buying a carseat so I might not even have to deal with that.

I kept D in his carseat during the flight. So, it was really handy for me. Then again I'm not sure how old Zoe is right now. >_>;

Since she's likely still in a Carrier carseat (I'm assuming since she's still a little bit). Head out to your local babies R us or Toys R us if you don't have a BUR anywhere near you.
they have a snap and go Stroller where you can snap the carseat onto the stroller frame. It's very light weight folds up MUCH smaller (you might even talk the crew into letting you put it overhead as one of your carry ons like you can sometimes with umbrella strollers since they fit nice behind bags in the overhead compartments). Since you just KNOW your connecting gate is going to be in BFE compared to the gate you come in at, it's like airport LAW or something. I suggest going to the BUR instead of ordering it online so you can be POSITIVE that your carseat fits. If you have a Graco (especially snug ride) carseat go for the Graco SnugNGo
When you get your tickets SPECIFICALLY ask for bulkhead if it's available, make it well known you are travelling with child and that the extra room will be nice.
Also, I'm sure you probably already know but I had friends who traveled and didn't, you will have to buy a seat for Zoe since she'll be in the carseat.

When we travelled at Christmas, we took our carseat with us, even though she was a lap baby. Since there was enough room they let us taking it on there, but it ended up being more of a pain then it was worth. (Long boring story.) I ended up with her on my lap the whole time which wasn't too bad. She'll be just shy of 6 months old when we travel for spring break in late March. She's already more wiggly so I don't know how she'll be then. I can't afford a second seat for Zoe. I know it's not as safe having her in my lap, but hopefully it'll be okay. I have a lightweight stroller that's easy to use that I'll take with us. It's basically a souped up umbrella stroller. (I'll put a picture at the bottom of the post.) I can gate check it so that I can get it back between planes. Oh, and the bulkhead wasn't available when I chose my seats or I would ahve gotten it. That's where we sat on the way home at Christmas. It was really nice because I could put her mat in the floor and change her diaper there. Here's Z's stroller:

How long of a flight is it? Yeah, I think I'd rather have her in my lap too then pay for the carseat. I don't really have a lot of experience flying with a baby. I'm sure it'll work out though!

All babies are different. I know I would have put D in a carseat at 3 months. He wiggled too damn much for me to have flown up here with him in my lap. xd

I would choose lap over car seat for sure. When we flew to German they required that Sascha (being two at the time) be in a car seat. After take off she refused to sit in the stupid thing, and it was just taking up space the whole flight while she sat on my lap gonk . If Zoe is sitting up by six months, which she may well be, she isn't going to want to be strapped down. Plus people will usally give up a seat for you too if there is room so it's not worth buying one in my opinion.

Now that I think of it you might want to call the airport before you decide this. Just to make sure I mean. I almost got sent home because of how old D was when I came up here. He was barely within the age requirement.
It might be over reacting a little, but it's still something to consider.

She's already said they traveled on an airplane at Christmas, so it wouldn't seem to be a problem.
Anywho, any craftsy GPGers in here? I was thinking if we have enough it might be interesting to start up a thread in the Arts and Entertainment forum to highlight all the you make or help others with questions. Just an idea. ninja

Dirge, I'd be interested. It sounds like a fun thread to have. I crochet and I painted pictures (that have yet to be framed) for Z's walls. I'd be interested in trying other things, too.
Panda, Z is definitely in the age requirements, but I will take her birth certificate so there's no question. We found out at Christmas that it's best to make sure to get a boarding pass that specifies that you have a lap baby so you can get through security. I'm glad that I've travelled with Z on a plane before, but I'm still a bit nervous about doing it alone. You all are really helping reassure me that I can do it though so thanks! heart

It's not so much age though. I was required to have a carseat whether D spent most of the flight in my lap or not. I had to put him in the carseat when we took off and when we landed. I'm not sure what the airports are like where you are though.
