Toby reached out and pulled Maia to him. "Do you want to make it?"

Dari had gone to the lake alone? Her expression was vaguely concerned as she looked to him. "Alright," she agreed. "Help me?"

Dari saw Maia's concern and offered her a smile. No. He was fine, really!
"Of course," Toby said, testing a drop of water in the pan. It was hot enough, so he grabbed a turner for Maia, handed it to her, dropped the sausage into the pan, and hugged her from behind.

Maia was still concerned, but Toby knew how distract her. She took the turner and watched Toby dump the sausage into the pan. She smiled. "So, how do I do this?"

"You sear it a little bit, then it's just like anything else. It shrinks up a little as it cooks. You can do it!" Toby said. He heard the sizzle as Dari buttered the skillet and dropped the first pancake on.

Hamburgers shrunk too, when cooked. Why was that? Heat made things expand most times. She waited a bit, and then turned each of the sausage. "Lets have a stay home and do nothing day," she suggested. Watch some movies, cuddle, cook together.

"That sounds nice," Toby said with a nod, and then turned his head to face Dari but kept it touching Maia's. "What do you think, Dari?"
"Oh? I'm invited?" His head was still turned toward the pancakes, but Toby knew he could see him.
"Of course you are."
"It sounds good to me too, then." The alien smiled.

"You're always invited," Maia said, looking to Dari. Except when they went upstairs and locked him out. "We can watch movies," she added. "Maybe have a fire."
Which meant they'd probably have to go out for marshmallows and hotdogs.

"Awh, yes. It's the perfect weather for a fire," Toby agreed with a smile. It had become a pleasant way to spend an evening again, rather than something reserved only for large parties. "Do we have any marshmallows left?"
"Some," Dari said, "but can one ever have enough?"
Toby chuckled.

"We can go out and get some," Maia said, looking between the two guys. She'd get dressed for that. "Will you bring out your guitar, Toby?"

"Sure, if you want me to," Toby said with a smile. He kissed the back of Maia's neck. "My screeching might wake up the neighbors."
"Your voice is rather pleasing," Dari said.
"Sure, but you don't have ears."
Dari laughed. "True."

Luca invited Dari over to his place via phone call, volunteering to give the alien a ride. For a movie--and mostly to talk. He was still intrigued by his newest friend.
When he arrived, he knocked on the door.

Luca would find that there was no need to knock. Dari was already outside, smiling, disguised by his projector thanks to home-movies not requiring he be as non-luminescent as possible. He stood when Luca got there and waved shyly.
Toby was perhaps more excited about the whole ordeal than Dari was himself. Apparently he'd done well sticking these two together, because now his best friend had another friend. He had someone else to go out with. It was fantastic.

Luca beamed when he spotted Dari, waving back and then beckoning him over. C'mon, c'mon, they were going to have fun. For as long as the elf had been in Arizona, he'd stayed to himself for the most part. He'd certainly never befriended another entity as easily before.
"Ready to go? I thought we could pick a movie when we get there."

Dari nodded and put his hands in his pockets as he came down the front stairs (a mannerism he had learned from spending so much time around Toby) and nodded.
"Sure! Maybe something indie? Eidetic memory makes re-watching movies sort of dull." He went into the passenger's side, still beaming. Toby waved from the window, and even if Dari didn't acknowledge him he knew he saw.
