Hehe.
With Light Infantry you could now potentially start with your entire army off of the board. That could REALLY screw you over, though...
Maybe start with some Sentinels and Chimera on the board with Improved Comms and bring everything else in with Outflank.

ALL Guard get chewed up and spit out by rifle fire. Its something that you should already be used to. The goal with them is to actually play tactically so that you DON'T get chewed up by quite as much rifle fire. Catachans had the advantage of being able to Ambush in their original rules. They could instantly appear next to an enemy squad and tear into them with rapid lasguns, heavy Bolter fire and Heavy Flamers.

well... once i get Black reach i will have finished my marines, and have a small army of orks to sell (i have recently made like 40 orks from my old fantasy models, just gien sluggas and such, so it will hopefully get some good money on ebay) and i need something new to do, so im thinking of turning to the guard, specificly the Elysian Drop Troops. what do you guys think? im thinking of basing it round heavy/special weapons, otherwise im gonna be forking out lots of cash on men (£40 for 10 men!) although i may get a $40 kit and a cadian one and mix in parts subtly, giving me 30 men for... £58...
but yeah, are there any specific tactics that work well with Elysians? i play marines, so im only really used to using any tactics more than "rush forward gunning everything" in cityfights only. which from my opponents experience, doesnt work with guard!

The number one rule that I've used (that has given me the most benefit) has been Target Priority. Look across your enemy's army and see what you need to kill to keep the most men alive. Using guard, that usually means that you have to kill:
Warwalkers with Scatterlasers / Shuriken Cannons Anything with lots of Heavy Bolters Ordinance
Make your shots count. Everything should be done with the purpose of keeping you alive longer. Tanks should target enemy armor quickly, 'cause the troops aren't usually survivable enough to last long against it.

awesome, thanks.
im thinking of converting the models to be edged toward Elysian Admech... (god im obsessed with machines) which will give me the opportunity to convert a lot more stuff... as with most of armies, i dont really care if it isnt really practical, i enjoy the moddeling more than the gaming (unless its a cityfight, those are just great)

I'd suggest to get some Cadians and then just by the Grav-Chute packs from Forgeworld. With some converting, you'd be just fine with those.

i want a more specific Elysian Platoon with admech stuff. (so elysians with bionics and such) i dont think that the cadians would be able to give that feel on their own

If an Elysian has bionics he's not allowed to jump anymore.

If you're into machines and bionics so much, why not just play an unorthodox force like the Adeptus Mechanicus? It might be better than trying to adapt the cookie-cutter Cadians to your desires.

my IG army is a mix of catachan, cadain and tanith mixed to together and look real great on the the battle field. but modeling is something i'm ok at but not the best usualy i pay my friend to model my higher level units like my rarely used veteran squad lol, or my always used shock platoon (in reality it just has like more missile launchers than other platoons and don't have capes) confused
but 5 platoons of infantry is nothing to shake a stick at. No tanks stressed worthless in my books stong but huge targets for their mobility, and dozers don't help me much in a city except for cars.

Tanks are amazing and if a Imperial Guard regiment can take advantage of them they should. For between 150-155 point you can get a Leman Russ with the front armor of 14 and Side 12 with it's battle cannon and eithe ra lascannon or heavy bolter. You can go on to add heavy flamers or another pair of heavy bolters on it's sponsers. All of this for under 170 points. If anything, you should have at least one, even if it's just for Infantry to hide behind as you advance. Putting a Russ on the table is also a psychological effect and can help draw fire away from something more delicate since it's larger in stature therefore more noticeable.
