The candy shop was only one street away, and it wasn't at all long before they arrived.
The shop was a large one, probably the largest candy shop they had seen, and it was filled with more types, shapes and flavours of candy than any of the shops they had visited previously. There was literally something for everyone.
River was taking her time looking over the candy, eying the prices and counting and recounting the money her grandmother had given her for spending.
"You look like you're planning on buying a lot," Amalirahc teased her.

"There's so many....." Miyuki murmured.
She would certainly have to come back here with her parents.
Turning to River she looked over to her friend counting, "Are you getting some?"

River nodded slowly, still counting to herself.
"Well ... I was thinking ... maybe I could get some for Grandmama ... and ... maybe for the rest of my family, too, but I guess ... by the time we get home again it will all go bad so maybe not ... but maybe for Jess and Jasta ..."
Amalirahc snickered at that, drawing an icy glare from his olive-skinned friend.

Miyuki looked at her friends, but it was hard to tell if it was because Amalirahc was snickering or the fact River sounded single minded even to her.
"Well it's only fair," she admitted, "Since they brought such lovely treats for us. It would be a nice thank you."

"Exactly," River said pointedly, folding her arms across her chest. "I don't know why people keep bugging me when I'm just trying to be nice."
Amalirahc grinned. "Will you get some for me, too?" he asked her brightly.
River rolled her eyes. "You have your own money to spend."

That made Miyuki just break out into giggles watching the two banter.
"I'm going to ask ada if he will come here with me sometime, he would like it here," Miyuki murmured.

"He would," River agreed, giggling now too. "He's got a huge sweet tooth!"
She took one final look around and sighed softly. "I guess I'll leave it for now. I want to make sure I have enough money for something for Mama and Papa."
Amalirahc grinned. "Then I'll get something for you, River, so that you can have something too." And he ran off to buy something for her and for himself.

Miyuki grinned at that as she watched Amalirahc run off, it was really nice of him to do that for River.
"I wonder what he's going to get..."
Amalirahc, since it always seemed like he was hungry it was hard to tell if he had a favourite type of candy or not.

River sighed, then giggled softly. "You never can tell with him."
When Amalirahc came back, he had a handful of licorice - something River had never seen before, or tried - and gave some to both River and Miyuki. There was black and red, and River, nervous about eating something black, took a red one.

"Thank you!" she squealed at the thought of candy.
Miyuki however, didn't have any problem with the idea of putting something black into her mouth. Unless it was burnt, black wasn't necessarily bad.
Look at blackberries!
She took one of each and took a bite of the black one first. It actually wasn't half bad, though it was really sweet. As if someone had put a lot of sugar into the candy. Miyuki had a somewhat thoughtful look on her face while trying it.
"I'm not sure what to think of that..."

River wasn't entirely sure what to think of the red licorice either, it was so different from the candy she'd had before. She decided to withhold judgment for the moment.
"You children ready to go?" Halmir asked with a smile after they were all munching on something.

Miyuki had decided after a moment she preferred at least the red one over the black one. She nodded at Halmir's question.
"Ready!"

"Off to the tannery!" Amalirahc cheered as he ran through the door and back out into the street.
Halmir chuckled and held the door for the girls. "Come on, then, before we lose him," he grinned.
River giggled. "I know. He bears such watching, doesn't he, Grandpapa?"

"Wait for us!" she called out after him.

Halmir chuckled as he hurried after the girls. "I know where it is, don't worry," he assured Miyuki.
"I don't think that's her point, Grandpapa," River giggled. "It's just that Amalirahc always runs off and leaves us behind."
"Ah, I see." Halmir smiled at the girls. "Well, like I said, I do know where it is-"
"Not the best one!" Amalirahc called over his shoulder, interrupting the ex-soldier. "There's three tanneries in this city! You have to go to the best one, it's got everything!"
"Then slow down!" River shouted after him.
Reluctantly, Amalirahc slowed, though it was clear from the way he bounced from foot to foot as they walked that he was eager to run ahead again.
