Heh there's a guy on another forum that's on a Chuck Norris kick, pun intended! I'll have to dig up the funny pic for you!
Ooo how cuuute carebears! I worry about Oscar that they're going to try to change them. I can understand the reasons for changing Cookie Monster a bit, but I wonder how far they'll go. I like grumpy characters!

Oh the Cookie Monster stuff was BUNK. scream
If parents can't be bothered to teach their children not to eat cookies all the time, well then there's something wrong with them, not Cookie Monster. -clings to CM of old-

Cookie Monster still seems as obssessed with cookies as usual. He just doesn't eat them all the time anymore...okay he does, but there are times where he does eat other things. xd
I was taught by my parents. Yeah...parents need to take responsibility for what their children eat. I mean my parents bought all of the food that came into the house. So, they got the final say in what I could and couldn't have. So, parents that complain about their kids begging for certain foods or certain toys because of commercials grow a back bone and say no. That's what my parents did. rolleyes

Same here. Then I just waited until I was old enough to get my own money and buy the foods my parents wouldn't buy. xd Oh well, I've still lost a bunch of weight over the past few years, just by cutting back on junk food and portion size.
Graceangel: I have the manga so I've gotten past that part in the series, but thank you anyways for the spoiler! heart

Eh...I never really did get into the sweets. sweatdrop
I like uh...sushi. I don't know. Every once in a while I really do like sweets, but I don't go out of my way to get them. I never did even when I was younger.

I thought the cookie monster thing was bogus too. You know.. I think taking away grumpy characters is actually counterproductive for children. There are always going to be grumpy people in life. Trying to ignore their existance or change them doesn't do anything since you can't make people change... But, you know.. I haven't seen a single oscar toy at my job since I started there. What parents should worry about instead of cookie monster eating cookies all hte time is helping their child to understand grumps need to be loved and accepted for who they are just as much as elmo and big bird are.
In other events, naaman started back to school this morning. The 7 am wake up call was harsh.. might take a few days to get back into the rhythm of it all. Also, sunday night after work, I got to go out with the girls. Was a blast.

Ooh, the grumpy characters talk continues! 4laugh
I always like that even though Grumpy bear was grumpy that his heart was always in the right place. So while he wasn't sweet or happy all the time, he was still a good guy.
Well, I think the Cookie Monster thing was about as valid as trying to say that children would think it's a good idea to live in a garbage can because Oscar does it. As if parents can't explain that it's a show and that IRL you wouldn't want to live in garbage because it's dirty and it smells. Same with cookies.
<3 Though I can't say I set the best example on the sweets front as I have a raging sweet tooth myself. Humans in general seek out sweet things though; it's a survival instinct from way back when. Foods that were sweet were non-poisonous and guaranteed to contain lots of calories where bitter foods were often poisonous and had very little caloric value. So humans used to seek out and crave fruit all the time before we learned baking and started using actual sugar in items. And since we're pre-programmed to look for sweets, well, you can see the problems in modern society with all the baked goods, ice creams and sodas at our disposal. Best you can do is try to get back to the point where fruit tastes really sweet to you and crave that instead.

eek Wow I didn't know this would be such a hot topic. Yeah we've been watching a dvd of old care bear episodes Sascha got for her b-day. It's funny Grummy is always watching the babies, or saving someones butt, he's just not excited about it.
Dirge that is a get point about the sweets, I never though about it that way. It also seems to me that concidering breast milk is so sweet, so half the kids are starting out with a sweet tooth of sorts. xd I swear alot more of what we do is instinct, then people like to think. The cookie monster issue is just plain laughable. I feel the same way about barbie. I never once thought, oh no I don't look like barbie. I actually liked that babrie had huge boobs, made me feel like less of a freak, lol only kidding. I think it is more what kids are exposed to in daily real life. Parents need to teach kids to eat right for sure. People just want someone to blame. I just wish the whiney bums out there didn't have to ruin everything for the rest of us!

People are a little too quick to pass the blame on a lot of things...like a few years back when those teenagers tried to sue McDonalds for making them obese. Now come on, my age and down we've had health classes most years that stressed the food pyramid and proper eating, exercise, etc and prior to that McD's had released their health pamphlets you could find at the restaurants giving nutritional information. It's not like they didn't know that eating that stuff too often is going to make you pack on weight, especially if they were upsizing their meals. I just couldn't believe the things people would sue over. But then again, that was right after the lawsuit against the tobacco industry started so I'm sure someone saw an opportunity in it.

Yeah. I always used to get irked when I heard people wanting to ban shows or video games or music. I have always felt it was hte parent's place to set guidelines. Like, my youngest brother loved TMNT [teenage mutant ninja turtles for those who don't know]. He would want to pick up manhole covers... xd But yeah, once we had to go to hardees cuz they had a turtle there to meet. rolleyes But, while he did believe they were real, I think he was also able to not want to pick up numchucks and hurl them at someone. I mean.. I always had barbies and loved them. I don't have a self image problem.. I think girls would be more likely to pick up self esteem problems off their mothers who don't take care of htemselves or don't put themselves of any importance. Cuz, then their daughters learn how to not take care of themselves.
It all comes down to knowing your children adn what they can handle. And, if they are really so impressionable, you just don't allow those materials to come into your home.
All too often, I've seen parents come into our game and buy rated M games for their kids. One guy was there.. his kid wanted dead to rights. I told the father the game had a lot of gratuitous violence and strong language.. and as such, I extremely didn't recommend it for that boy's age group... but, the kid kept whining about how bad he wanted it and didn't want other games recommended instead. The dad caved. It happens a lot. Can't penalize the game industry for lack of parenting....

It's like that parent who wanted to sue Rockstar.
She bought her kid Grand theft Auto. He was 14. It HAD a rating of M which means 17+.
Then when the "hot coffee" programming was discovered the ERSB gave it an AO rating which is 18+.
Lady had no problem buying her 14 year old a game rated 17+ but when it's rating was changed to 18+ she suddenly thinks she has grounds to SUE?

OH or the parents whose son committed suicide so they tried to sue Judas Priest.
I hate that horrible crap happens to kids, but it irks me more about the pass the buck game.

3nodding Same gender parent is the biggest role model in any child's life: they have more influence then they realize.
