Up until about a week and a half ago, I thought Harry Potter was just kiddy-grade fantasy-lite, taking liberties with all the established "rules" of fantasy and magic that I had grown up on, Dungeons and Dragons-style.
About a week and a half ago, I decided to give Potter a chance, for my girlfriend, and I read the first book. Then I read the next, and the next, etc.
Day before yesterday, I finished Deathly Hallows. My name is Brian, and Im a Harry Potter addict. sweatdrop

Yep, pretty sure we all started out with "Why the hell is this so popular? I'll just read the first book and then I can say I read it..." Next thing you know, it's a few weeks later (you don't know how it could be a few weeks later) wondering how you finished the series when you were only going to read the first book. xd heart

I started reading HP because I was sick. I was sitting on the couch, wrapped up in a blanket, eating plain chicken, and my grandma was like "HERE. Book. Read."

I finally went to see OotP. We went to see the 3D showing. I was sad that only the battle at the ministry was 3D and not any of the other spells. The patronuses would have been especially awesome.
[Of course, with how dark the movie was in general, it would be nearly unwatchable with the 50% light intensity of wearing polarized glasses all the time.]
I'm not sure the movie would have been understandable without the book. So much was cut... it should have been 3 hours instead of 2, or had a crazy special edition like LotR. It was really hard to get a feel for anything since it was so rushed.
When you guys told me about the goat in Hogsmeade... I thought you meant on the wall.

makyoku I'm not sure the movie would have been understandable without the book. So much was cut... it should have been 3 hours instead of 2, or had a crazy special edition like LotR. It was really hard to get a feel for anything since it was so rushed. I agree with that entirely. It's really disappointing to see a movie that can't stand on its own. So many people don't read the books and I wonder what their impression of the movie must have been.

highlight for spoiler bbs:
i think out of all the deaths in the potterverse, i was more sad about george's then anyone. especially snape and dobby. though i'm surprised how he died.
i could write more but eh...don't feel like it.
