Just as the student sat down in his seat the door to the academy bust open once more. Coming through the door shoulder first was none of than Shin Takamura. He stopped a feet feet from the entrance as the doors closed behind him, walking forward he examined the classroom to find barely any one here. It was an erie site, hopeful everyone was just late and not dead. As he neared the first few rows he nodded in the direction of the other student as if to say 'hey' and then directed his attention towards the teacher and asked, "Am I late or early?"

The teacher was slightly startled by the second interruption, but hid it and scrutinised the new arrival.

"Neither,"
he said in answer to his question, and that was that. "And sit anywhere you want. This is sufficient and I will begin."

Walking to the blackboard, probably to set them an exercise, the teacher paused. "I suppose that introductions are needed. I shall begin first." Taking up a stick of chalk delicately between thumb and index finger he began to write on the board. When he was finished, the kanji sensei was there, meaning teacher.

"You will call me Sensei. You will follow my teachings and orders. I will train you to become the best," Sensei said simply.

"You next, Goggles, and then Akamizu."

"Neither, she said? That means I'm right on time, perfect." Shin quickly took a seat a few chairs down from the other student, his eyes glued to the instructor. As the first of his clan to actually attend with the purpose of graduating, he had to set the example. That meant he had to put his best foot forward by paying attention and picking up things quickly. There was no time for dilly-dallying.

Therefore when he was prompted to give them his brief introduction, he stood straight up and at attention. "Ok Sensei. I am Shin Takamura. I know my family has had a bad reputation, I stand here today to end it and create a new and better perception of the Takamura's in its place." He sat satisfied that his introduction was sufficient and turned to the other student waiting to hear theirs.

The redhead looks back at the new arrival. He was relieved he wasn't going to be the only student in the class. His lava orange eyes looked at the goggle wearing boy. He seemed like a class clown type to Kakuzen. The family name of Takamura was not familiar to Akamizu, perhaps reason being that Takamura are a shinobi family while the Akamizu are religious followers.

'hmm...Takamura...' he noted his class mate as an equal at this point. Kakuzen slowly rises when he senses his cue to introduce himself to the small class room. His fingertips stayed relaxed on the desk top, feeling the writing graffiti that Academy students before him had written. His eyes draw away and peer in the dark corners.

"I am called Akamizu Kakuzen" he spoke with a slightly cold voice "I come from the Akamizu family..." he looks at his sensei "A well known family in the religious community. However..." he darts his eyes away again "...I wish not to be perceived as one who has ties with religions..." his eyes narowed and his voice become slightly angered "...I had just recently cut my ties with my family and the Gods I had previously worshipped" he eyes Takamura for an instant "I came to this Academy against the will of my parents and Gods...I am here on my own" he said and looks to his sensei again to finish "...Gods are dead to me, I believe only in myself" his voice calmed and took in a deep breath. He leers over to Shin and sits back in his seat to await the response.

((Same day posting, Woot! I'm thinking that this will go much faster than the Suna acad.))

Shin watched careful as his classmate gave his little introduction. It seemed he too was breaking away from his family ties, a common point which would make life much easier on the both of them. He gave his peer a smile and thumbs up as if to say nice job, and break the first day tension. All in all, things seemed to be look up at this point and he was ready to begin the real work. Looking back to their sensei, he asked “So what are we starting with today?”
PostPosted: Wed Sep 12, 2007 7:30 am

[I'm thinking so too =(

And Sensei is a he XD I like to cross play guys too >.>; Everybody does it =( They put she for my characters T.T Well I'm used to it.. >.>]

Sensei merely nodded after the introductions. After all, he already knew about the students. The main purpose of it had been to acquaint them with each other, to give them a basic background of their classmate. Still, though, the sensei was surprised. His students were by no means normal, with one coming from a failure of a ninja family and the other being the outcast from a devoutly religious clan. Whether this would have repercussions for them he did not know, but they had probably already accepted that their backgrounds meant that their paths were harder to walk.

"Today, we are going to work on mental strength. Too often I have seen people, strong in body, but weak in mind. And as we are home to some of the most terrifying genjutsu around, we have no shortage of practice material.

But before that, I am going to give you a test to see if you are worthy of being ninja. It won't be anything stupid like showing off your knowledge with a written test. It won't even be physical. I just want to know what being a ninja means to you."

This would be the longest speech that Sensei would give his students in a long time, but hey, it was their first day, gotta give them a good experience.

Though he had never been to thee academy or taken any of its tests before this seemed to be an odd way to start their training. He had assumed that their tutelage here was to be many physical or spiritual, the mental aspects had never occurred to him. He had expected the focus on such an abstract point, or so he had thought, would be minimal. Yet after thinking about this for a while he realized that it would be better to guard against all possible offenses not just those of the body.
Having realized the usefulness of this test and of this line of training in general, he was no longer apprehensive in answering it. And since he was the one to answer the last question first, he guessed that he would also be the first to answer this question. "It means putting your life on the line everyday so that your village can survive. It means taking mission you do not like so that the village can make money. It means dealing with people you dont like to get the job done. It means taking the time to keep up with your training such that when a time comes to give your life it is not in vain."

Being mentally fit was nothing of a challenge for Kakuzen, he was tutored by some of the best teachers in the village. However being fit to kill was something he was not taught. He would realize later while being locked in his room, that human lives meant nothing at all to him, all humans are bad. He took his eyes to Takamura and listened to his definition of the meaning of shinobi.

hmph...putting the village before your life?...Why should I risk my neck for a bunch of wretches?

He felt his nails trying to dig into the desk, just thinking about trying to give his own valuable life to save a bunch of hypocritical nothings like his family. He closes his eyes after Shin had finished his say. Akamizu did not stand to speak.

"Being a Shinobi" he said "I'm gonna hafta say the same as Takamura" he looks off to the side. After a moment of silence "...Sorry it isn't some inspiring speech" but clearly, he did agree with Takamura, but his own reasons were secret to himself due to it being a worry to the teacher.

[Well, guys, it seems that for Guilds Post Action has been temporarily disabled. Ugggggg... so I'll cook up something else while we wait for it to come... unless you guys don't mind the idea of rolling in an outside thread. Please don't cheat though.]

"Interesting answer Nakamura," Sensei said. "We'll try again after this, Akamizu." 'This' was supposed the academy course, but since Sensei was being so vague it could be interpreted as anything.

"Mental strength," Sensei said immediately jumping onto the topic. "Affected by two things. Experiences and physical endurance. Even if your consciousness can withstand the shock, your body may not. It might react with flight instead of fight at the crucial moment. You have to prevent your body from going to that state where it ignores your mind. For genjutsu, the casters get things wrong. With experience you will be able to see through that.

"Let's talk about Genjutsu for now. Tell me what you know."
PostPosted: Thu Sep 13, 2007 12:27 pm

Akamizu thought about genjutsu. genjutsu are meant as illusion techniques, to control the senses of the target and lead them into hallucenations or a false sense of pain. Akamizu took a crash course in the different jutsus and their meaning, so he was quite fried at this point. He knew about the other jutsus; taijutsu, and ninjutsu. The academy student took liking to all three, leaning more towards genjutsu. His halloween orange eyes leered all over the floor, thinking before answering.

"Genjutsu, a category of techniques that deal with illusions and control of your opponents' primary senses" he didn't know how you control the senses but that was all he knew for the moment. "I have read a book on certain jutsus...but nothing too deep into Genjutsu arts" he crosses his arms as he starts to lean back in his chair more.

Shin listened intently as his peer spoke about the topic as he was unfamiliar with most ninja arts. There was no one in the family to rely on for such information and he didn't have enough money to buy any books. All of his knowledge was gain by listening to the conversations of others and without anyone to tell him about it he knew little. So there wasnt really much he could add. Thus he said little his voice carrying traces of his aprehension. "I have nothing to add, Akamizu sumed up all of what I know about genjutsu."

[last post before i go to bed.. I went rock climbing today, i'm so pooped @.@ can't even be bothered to press shift..]

"You know too little," the teacher said matter-of-factly. That wasn't a surprise considering their backgrounds really, but he didn't add that. "There is so much more you can say. How it affects your opponent, what possible uses of it. Bluffing, for example. And also.."

Suddenly the room darkened. This man's teaching methods were certainly strange. Some said that he put too much faith in his students to be able to break out of a genjutsu so quickly. Anyway the surroundings darkened and the two boys, although only a few metres apart before were now completely cut off from each other by the darkness. They would view their worst memories and fears until they broke out, and Sensei certainly wasn't giving them any help. They needed to do this themselves.

[Can you both roll? Well, you didn't really say you could in response to my previous post but just making sure..

If you can, DC 15.

If you can't, five posts of struggling to escape before you do.]

(aww, poor Kouri-chan *pats*)

Kakuzen wasn't ashamed of his answer, he did not hail from a shinobi family like many others had. As soon as the light around him had vanished, he knew this was a part of the teacher's lesson of genjutsu, it was too obvious. But as far as genjutsus go, it's still scary stuff. "Takamura?" he looked to his right towards where Shin would be. He found that there wasn't any answer, so he was in a deep illusion where his hearing is also being altered. "alright then..." he sighed.

(gah! 14? so close! gonk )

In the blink of an eye, the scene became the inside of what seems to be the average living room. Akamizu looks around for what is happening. "This is...my house?" he was a little perplexed from how a genjutsu could replicate his house so easily. "So this is not a basic genjutsu" he looks off to the side. The door to the house bursts open to show a middle aged man dressed in priest's robes and tuggin in a small child by the ears. "hmph" he grunted darkly and crosses his arms while watching this familiar sight.

"What the hell is wrong with you!? I don't know what's gotten into you in saying those things!" The man yelled, the boy growling while being tugged by his ear. "I oughta rip your ear off for what you just pulled off back there...but I think maybe a little time thinking about what you did and ask the Gods for your forgiveness!"

Kakuzen narrowed his eyes and looks down with disdain "...curse him"

(...14 again?...wtf)

The scene changes to Kakuzen seeing himself being tossed downstairs into the basement. "I hope you straighten your act! because if you don't, I will throw you down there and never let you out, you hear me?...you embarassed me infront of the whole church, now people are going to be talking about a raving lunatic as the priest's son!" the priest yelled into the darkness.

Kakuzen's memories were bad experiences, but after he already experienced something he would normally no longer fear it. "That's the worst memory I have?..." he asked.
