"Haha...I'm glad."

She caught her breath, trying to keep from laughing more. There was a big goofy grin on her face, and her light brown eyes were sparkling with merriment. She hadn't exactly enjoyed being inside someone's mouth, but it would be a funny story to tell people some day. She'd probably start laughing about it herself, eventually, once she'd had time to take a bath.

"So...it was worth it?"

"Yeah..."

Jack let out one last small laugh as he tried to regain his composure. It was pretty much hopeless now though, covered in sand and laughing as much as he did. Owle had single handedly turned a hardened soldier into a kid on the sand. Jack might have won the spar.

But Owle won in a way she could probably never imagine.

"I don't think I've ever... in a million fights and adventures... experienced anything quite like that."

Her brown orbs reflected in the deep sea of Jack's eyes, and he couldn't pull them off hers.

Uh-oh. Trouble. With a capital 'T.'

Owle knew the look in his eyes, or perhaps mistook it for something else. She wasn't exactly taken, but...well, she wasn't taken at all, really, but...

She had an adopted son upstairs, and two guys who kept insisting they loved her. One of them was so chock full of love triangles and had abandoned her twice before, so she'd more or less given up on him. The other...yeah, he was a great guy. Yeah, he lavished her with attention and praise, and seemed to truly love her.

She just didn't love him back.

"Well..." Despite these turbulent thoughts, the goofy grin didn't leave Owle's face, try as she might to let it relax. "I'm glad. I'm really, really, glad."

And she was.

Owle stood up, and offered him a hand down to help him up.

Not that look.

Jack wouldn't give that look to a non-human unless something really changed him. It was one of a true friend. It is sad, but Jack had never really had a real friend. A bulley at one point, a deliquent, a killing machine, a wanderer.

Never really a time for a friend.

So, it was one of peace and happyness. Kinda cheesey, but rather true.

Jack took her hand and pulled himself, with her help, to his feet.

"Eh..."

He laughed a bit, going to his stuff and wrapping them up in his jacket instead of putting them on.

"There a shower in that place?"

Jack looked to her, a mess in appearances and rather akward with all his weapons, plates, and such wrapped in that jacket.

Owle would be relieved when, over time, she found out that was what it was, since that was all she wanted. The romantic messes she had gotten herself into had just made her a little too quick to assume the worst.

Not like she let it affect her unless her fears were justified. Fortunately she hadn't been driven crazy enough to start chasing off males with a stick.

"Yeah, lots of them," Owle answered, pushing her worries to the back of her mind. "There should be a door in your room that doesn't lead to a closet; that'll be the bathroom. Each room has its own shower."

"I'm at the Ritz b***h."

Jack said a bit too happily, and not really being tactful. That's the problem when getting someone that's hard and tough to be lax and happy. They become almost unpredictable. For they aren't used to the euphoric effect of happyness.

"I'll see you after I get cleaned... There wouldn't happen to be a washer and dryer in this place, would there?"

Jack asked again, interrupting himself before he'd go inside.

Owle blinked. She was unfamiliar with the expression, and was pretty sure she shouldn't be overly happy if the last term in that sentence was meant to apply to her.

But by the tone of his voice he didn't mean anything by it, so Owle just did a doubletake and decided to let it go without question.

"Yeah, there's a washroom behind the kitchen...it's easy enough to find. I could throw a load in for you if you want."

He was a guest, after all.

"Thanks a lot! I will repay you somehow!"

Jack was gone, running up to his room in boxers with all his equipment. What was left at Owle's feet were his sandy socks, pants, shirt, and jacket.

He'd look like a goofy anime character to anyone in the tavern, some built like a brick dude running with a punch of stuff in his arms up to his room. Jack was acting as though the place were his barracks back home, not really remembering that one doesn't prance around in their boxers at a tavern.

Aw. Well.

Jack would be in his room, setting down his stuff and going into the shower in a matter of moments. People would probably mistake him for a drunk or something in the short amount of time he'd be able to be seen.

And Owle stood there, blinking after him as he ran off in his boxers. She looked up to the top of the stairs where he'd vanished from her view, then her eyes slid down to the equipment at her feet. Chuckling softly and shaking her head, she bent down and scooped up his clothes, carrying them to the laundry room. She must have looked pretty odd herself, walking through a bustling tavern with an armful of laundry, but at least she worked here.

Well, at least I know he's feeling comfortable here, she reflected as she threw his clothes in the wash, then set the machine on the proper settings. Why do so few travelers carry extra sets of clothes with them?

Ah, well.

Owle stretched, wincing a little as her bruises protested the motion, then headed upstairs to her own room. She needed a shower herself.

Jack had some changes of clothing in that enourmous backpack he was carrying when he first came in, one set being the night camo suit that he used for special operations missions. However, that old marine shirt was one of the few artifacts he had of his past on Earth and didn't want the sand and ocean water to ruin it.

Or all the traveling he'd done previous for that matter.

"Aww..."

Jack's sore mucles flexed, and his gums began doing the meta-human fast healing thing. All the while he looked up with closed eyes into the shower head. Boxers resting back in a hamper he'd found, the steam began covering his nude form.

It was good to have a shower again.

Bruises weren't worth the energy or the time it would take to use her regenerative powers to mend them. Owle would rather just take a nice shower to ease their pain and get the spittle off of her.

Ick. Just remembering that made her shudder, but now the water was coming to wash it all away. Just let the hot water take it all away, and try to forget that horrid feeling. In all her adventures, she'd never before seen the inside of something's mouth, and she never wanted to again. Ever.

After scrubbing herself vigorously, and probably a few more times than was strictly necessary, Owle emerged from the shower, dressed, and went back downstairs. She realized she was ignoring the patrons as she walked through the busy common room, but, hey...the dwarves, and possibly their two new employees, could handle it.

From the washer to the dryer she would move Jack's clothes, then return to the main room of the tavern.

It was at this point that she noticed something. Something Jack's magic suppressing boots had kept her from noticing before.

Those two drunks were familiar.

"Ah, you pansy. See? Watch." Gamma spoke loudly, because he wasn't sober enough to control his voice volume. Scratching at the tattoo under his eye, he reached for the knife on the table.

Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak Fwak

Gouging slivers of wood out of the table from between his fingers, moving rapidly around his hand with stabs from the knife. Finally, he stopped and held his hand out before him like some alien artifact.

"Hey I missed." Giving a moment for what that meant trickle into his skull.
"I need something to drink."

Gammu watched his brother for a while, with a low chuckle hiding in the back of his throat as he sat there. Watching the knife move swiftly and with precision. You'd almost think he was sober.

"Cheater."

He could agree though with the last words. Looking around he looked for some staff. There was one lady that had brought food out before; perhaps she was a server. Waving his hand he tried to flag her down.

"Hey! We'd like to get some drinks!"

Owle's eyes widened. She knew where she had seen those mind sigs before. These were the people that would have killed Rage and opaj if a giant T hadn't fallen from the sky.

And one of them was waving at her!

Gammu would probably be quite puzzled when the server, in a fit of panic, dove behind the bar and huddled there, her knees clutched to her chest.

"Help!"

The mental plea would likely reach Flare, Kalis, and Jack if he wasn't within range of his crystals. It might be faintly heard by Athan.

Owle was reaching out to everyone in the bar she considered a friend.

Jamming the knife a little ways into the table, Gamma admired his work. Chunks of table missing from where his fingers weren't. Like some kindergarten project of a bevelled wood hand-turkey carving.

"Huh? No waitress?" Looking around, he could have sworn someone went by.
"This bar has crappy service."
