V13 Virus
"Heh, you called and they came, eh?" He turned and began to leave, "Don't pretend to know too much, especially when you're not even too knowledgeable about yourself."

The clinking of the chain around his waste began as he set out the entranceway.

"I'm sure we could meet again..." He didn't even stop to speak this, "Perhaps then you'll be older and realize this was a favor."

And with that Rigel exited the door and ended his part in Tiel and Yuri's lives. At least until they were entertaining again.

For now, he was bored and needed something to do. Maybe even someone…

Tiel was just as glad to see him leave, though a part of her hoped they would meet again. She wanted to understand his words, wanted to ask him someday why he had done this. But until then...

Her hand never leaving the shadowsilk she had called into being, Tiel turned to look at Yuri. "Am I alone?" she replied to his question. How could she be alone? There were shadows everywhere. Even if she wanted to strike out on her own, the shadows would be all around her, always...they'd always been around her, she'd just never known...

Now that the source of her fear was gone, Tiel felt all the other emotions bubbling up inside her, welling up and overflowing. She had broken something, and it had left the world wide open and new, full of possibilities and wonder.

Most of all, it was full of beautiful shadows.

*He smiled* No, Tiel, you aren't alone. More than anything, you will have trouble being alone. There are those like me, who seek to help you, and then there is always your magic. It is like your best friend and your worst enemy. With the right use, it can make you more powerful than you could dream, but make a few mistakes, and you will fall into a pit of despair and desolation. But they will always be there. *He continued smiling* Now, shall we go? And don't ask me where, as you are to determine that on your own.

"Pleasure to meet you Mick, that was a nice show you gave back there. I am fine never felt better, thank you for asking." Lupin spotted then hand and start to reach out and take it, but then noticed how dirty his hand was from Mick's. He brought his hand back down rembering that he had forgotten the last time he washed his hands. "Such a nice young lad you are helped out the theif and are still willing to shakes hands with a dirty old man. If i rember the last time i had clean water near me, I would consider shaking that hand, but since i don't i wont, besides don't want to smell funny infront of the ladies now do we."

Mick laughed. Oh great, a dirty old lady killer...

He left his hand extended. "I don't mind Lupin. I was raised in dirt... mostly dust from old books, but these hands have seen a lot of, well, crap in their time."

I'm going to regret this later, I know I am...

"Say, Lupin, I know of a great bath house not too far from here. We can get you cleaned up, maybe buy some new clothes, and get a trim..." Putting the icing on the cake, Mick said in a sing-song manner, "It's co-e-ed..."

Levie puffed his cheeks at her indignantly because he knew she was right. "Fine," he said and grabbed Sol's sleeve," Sage Sol! The weird chick says that there's someone dying in one of our halls other than the dude on her back."

Could he be any more casual?

"...Levie..." the Light Sage said sternly, yet softly, even as he took a step to the side so that Espa, following in his wake through the crowd, would have a clear path towards the stairs leading up towards the second level. He bent down slightly over the boy, looking down at the scrawney little thing with his piercing jade green eyes and strongly resisted the urge to scold the child once more, "...make sure you come to class tomorrow, because you have much to learn..."

The long sleeve of Sol's red-trimmed robe slipped up his forearm as the Sage raised his hand, clasping it upon the boy's shoulder and turning him towards the far side fo the room; pointing with his other hand at a white-haired eastern man who leaned against the wall behind the crowd of gawking students. "Go tell Suichi, I still have much to do..."

Without another word he pushed the boy forwards, causing him to take a step into the crowd, even as the tall mage stood back up, falling into step just beside the two girls as they caught up to him.

"Please..." he said politely, gesturing for them to follow as he waved his hand at the students which had crowded around, prompting them to part once more and clear a path towards the stairway, "we're almost there..."

exclaim Hoshimi always speaks Eastern unless she has to speak otherwise.

Hoshimi was again startled by the firm fairness this man seemed to exude. Her eyes shimmered for a moment the silver predominating the blue before shifting back almost collapsing her to her knees, but she managed to stay upright using her staff as support. The young eastern woman glanced once more at the man in the red trimmed robes and decided she would have something to say to the Temple once she got back, if she got back.

She brushed the sleeves of her own silk kimono, the slick material sliding down her arms as she continued walking, taking note of everything in the building, people as well as atmosphere. It was a very intriguing place to be sure. He gestured again and the tone of his voice as well as the way he spoke made it easy for her to translate in her mind. It would appear they were almost at their destination. "Arigato" Her weary head inclining in a show of uptmost respect for the mage, too weary to go into a more elaborate and polished show of gratitude.

Tsai on the other hand was still lying limply on Espa's shoulder, his dead weight growing with each second. His heart was still taking the strain of the poison, adding to the already strained muscles work merely to keep him alive long enough to see Hoshimi safe. The left side of his body would tense every few seconds in reflex, small strokes overtaking his body as he fought internally the poison.

Slifer slowly opened his eyes to find himself healed. Looking around at the room he was in, he found himself puzzled. How did he get here, and why did his head hurt so much. Groaning he looked around, he appeared to be in some sort of Infirmary. People were moving around him and whispering medical jargon. Sighing he got out of his bed and flicked a few coins in a little donation jar. He then walked out, into Laburnam City's Streets.

"Its good to see that youth of today havent forgot there upraisings" He smiled a bit wondering if he could still count himself as someone like that. Proably not since he was once ritch and acted like a child and was now poor as dirt and acted even older than dirt. But Lupin wouldn't change it for the world life was so mutch easier when people thought you were cenile and useless. His smiled turned into a grin when he heard about a bath house. Where there was a bath there were women bathing and those always brought some fun times. He wonder if he could get into a bathhouse since he had already been kicked out all the ones he had found.

He about jumped into the sky when he heard the muscial note Mick had said "Co-ed!" Now he knew he hadn't gone to this bathouse and was already quickly trying to take off his shoe. To Mich he proably looked anxious but he wasn't really that anxious. He had saved some gold coins for just such an occasion he wasn't about to free load off on someone else's money. He hopped on one foot beside Mick struggling get off the shoe that was to small for him. "Well then lets hurry my boy, most women bathe at sunset so they can dance the night away!"

Grinning on the outside, dreading he would regret this later (and get an earful from Espa) on the inside, Mick began to lead Lupin through the slowly-thinning crowds of the marketplaces. The hermit or whatever he was was indeed right about sunset approaching quickly. Eh, what the hell. This guy looks like he could deserve a nice night on the town.

Passing by eager shoppers, equally eager sellers, and travelling artists, Mick smiled, waved, or said a cheerful greeting to those he knew. As he passed, he gave a sort of mini-tour to Lupin, who probably knew the regulars of Laburnum better than Mick did.

"That's Colias," the mage said, gesturing then waving to a goliath of a man who was strumming away on a lyre, "and the dwarven fellow with him playing the hurdy-gurdy is Likoluh." He blew a jokingly-flirtatious kiss to a quite elderly woman selling various spices and mixtures. "That's Gertruse, who, in a pinch, can make you one of the best aphrodiasiacs in all of Gaia." With a playful wink back to Lupin, Mick said, "And she's still single after all these years, if you're interested. I hear she's quite the wonder... well, you know what I mean."

Mick went on like this until he reached their destination: Hefter's Haven. "This is it," Mick said, holding the curtain to the bath house open and ushering Lupin in.

Hefter's youthful and spirited daughter, Niji, was sitting behind the front desk, and smiled extra-wide, as Hefter strictly instructed of all his employees. Oddly enough, the only employees that ever stayed on this job were Hefter's relations.

"Niji!" the mage said, approaching her and bowing, "You're looking beautiful as the last time I saw you. I always say, the moon pales in comparison to you."

Niji laughed. "And that's quite the compliment coming from yourself, Mick Brightman. What will it be for today?"

Mick gestured back to Lupin. "This is my new acquaintance, and I do believe a fellow partner in crime, Lupin."

Niji smiled and winked at the hairy man. "Another lady killer, eh? I don't know if father would like two of you on the premesees...

Mick waived this comment away. "I we cause too much trouble you just go ahead and bill me extra... or Rym... I forget which on of us has lesser debts to Hefter right now..."

"And will you two gentlemen be having today?"

"Only Hefter's guarantee of satisfaction or our money back." Mick fished out the fee for the bath house, then dropped a few extra coins onto the desk. Then, only loud enough for Niji to hear, said, "Give him the works: trim, groom, whatever. He's gotta be satisfied, too, or I'll be taking back my extra."

Mick motioned for Lupin to approach Niji. "Your turn, and don't stand there with your jaw hitting the floor for too long; it's a pain to clean these floors... believe me, I know... that's the last time I ever got addicted to Hefter's passion fruit shampoo...."

Lupin already knew the streets and always it was his home after all, but he didn't excatly know the people, so he did enjoy the tour a bit. He had made a couple remarks nothing of importance just replys to a few things Mick had said when he was being toured around, to show that Lupin was paying somewhat attention and not just gawking at some of the women that went by.

When they had arrived to the bathhouse he stared at the sighn a bit, h had walked by here a few times and had seen it before, but never entered. He never could seem to keep hold of the few coins he would come by long enough. Walking inside he let Mick do all the talking taking a look around and taking note that this placed look expensive. He sighed inwardly to himself as he rember a few times he had done such things in the past. He had given the beggars a new chance at life, after a bath to rinse out there past he gave some coins to pay for the future. Ofcourse Lupin did it to catch the eyes of women back then but he was sure people who did this sorta thing earnestly did it the sameway.

He fumbled over some thoughts and made to rember when most grooming facilities made trims, he would have to aviod that since he proably would look his age if they cut most of his hair. That would be a mess Lupin didn't wouldnt want to get into, he was starting to regret folling the chap and cursed his damn weakness for women. Then he saw Niji and threw all his thoughts into the dumbster he had been sleeping by a few weeks ago. So what if women were more trouble then they were worth, Lupin would always be ready to pay the price anyday.

Lupin bowed when he hear he was being introduced, but didnt say anything he didn't want to interrupt Mick and the young lady's conversation. Besides if he didn't speak she wouldn't notice him staring which would cause most women to slap him. When mick said it was his turn he brought his eyes up to the young ladys and smiled, "Its a pleasure to meet someone as beautful as you, Miss Niji. I assure that Ill be sure to keep this Youngster in check at all times. So that you don't have to worry your beatufil little crown about us and if all the women I see today are as beautiful as you then you wont need to give his money back" he gave a small wink to the lady and smiled pleasently. He hoped he hadn't gotten to rusty with charming women, it had been a while since he had a chance to try.

A giggle escaped Niji's lips for two reasons. One: Because of the charm of Lupin, and two: Because of the thought that was going through her head at the time.

Mick actually thought this was an old man? He couldn't be more than forty, at the most!

Niji stepped away from behind the counter so she could properly bow towards the two gentlemen. "Please enjoy your visit to Hefter's Haven."

Niji then rang a small bell upon the desk, four beautiful women dressed in kimonos entering the lobby. Motioning to Mick, Niji said, "Please take Sir Brightman to the Nest, and Sir Lupin has been entitled to the Cloud Nine package." Niji winked at Lupin and said, "Senior discount."

Two of the women began to escort Mick down one of the three halls exiting from the main lobby. Calling behind him, he said, "Enjoy yourself, Lupin, or you'll catch hell from me! Hope to recognize you after you're through. And don't get into too much trouble!"

"If seeing this many beautiful women isn't already cloud nine, im ready to kick the bucket now!" He smiled to Niji who had given her a wink. He had been around women long enough to catch the subtle clues and so forth, bah he could practically read most minds in a sense. It was a gift he had learned to manipulate quickly witch always gave him an edge when a problem arrised when he was courting women in the past. She knew he wasn't old and very soon everyone else would be able to tell. He wondered if Mick would notice and how he reacted. The thought passed his minds two seconds afterwords and started to wonder how the women would react if they didn't already know.

Lupin grinned a stupid grin as he followed behind the two lady's resisting the urge to grab both there behinds. It was to ealry to get in trouble yet and he wasn't excatly sure how they would react to it, since neither had spoken directly to him. They were whispering to each other in easter a langauge Lupin wasn't so good at but could understand if given time to think over what was said, but they were speaking a little to fast and hushed for him to catch on to what they were saying. They eventually led him to a large room where other people were already bathing. Both women stopeed and turned around and caught Lupin staring but made no remark.

Lupin looked up and smiled trying to look innocent and was about to apologize when one of the women spoke up first. "This is where you will be bathing, it is not against the rules to speak with other guest but please be respectful of there privacy. If you wish to derobe in private there is a screen's along the corners of the room. My name is Melieng and this is Ayane, we will both be serving you today. (if that didn't shoot Lupin's mind deep into the sewer nothing will >.>...)) Now if you will excuse me i must make preparations for your triming and will return shortly. In the meentime Ayane will make sure you have everything during your bath." Melieng spoke with a Eastern accent whether it was natural or not he couldn't tell, he was having 'thoughts'. She bowed him to him and left down the hall while Ayane opened the door to the bathing area. Lupin followed her inside and was wondering what was included in the Cloud nine package... would ever it was by name alone it sounded pleasing..

"Out of my way." A voice full with a brain cell killing amount of pompous shouted, "I am a customer you would fear to lose."

The massive girth of the well dressed man pushed past whoever was getting in his way.

The six attendants that followed him shot panicked glances towards each other, but said nothing because they knew what he said was true. This man had more gold than he had chins.

"Girls, I want to know when my private bath is. All these other activities have made me sweaty." He boomed.

"Well, if I remember correctly you're..." The young woman only had a moment to squeak that out before he stopped and shot her a glance. She waved he hands like she never said anything and smiled as big as she could.

"Yes, I thought it was right NOW. Meeeyes." He let out a pompous laugh that looked akin to a gelatin factory exploding. He then began to waddle as fast as he could wherever the attendant in front of him was leading.

"And I don't want one of those..." His voice filled with arrogant distaste, "Private baths. I need a whole normal bath closed off just for me... And while your at it..."

As he droned on his list of growing demands he lifted a hefty arm to push the next person in his way into a wall. That person just happened to be Mick, and the person that was Mick was slammed into the object that was the wall.

"I'm sorry sir." One of the attendants blurted as the followed behind the man.

Rigel laced his way through the slim alleyways of the city, the chance of finding fun in these cramped dark corridors. Maybe he could remove a few muggers from the city.

"Rigel." A female voice came from behind him, "Ready for your presents?"

"Mmmm, you know I'd like presents from you, but you have a tendency to make them work related." He rolled his shoulders before he pivoted towards the voice.

"Aww, maybe when your less dangerous, Rigel dear." She was leaning against a wall, whatever the darkness didn't obscure the muffler she wore did. She tossed a pouch at Rigel the minute Rigel could see her. He snatched it out of the air.

"Ah, some candy." He pulled the drawstring on the pouch and picked on of the small brown tablets that fell into his hand, "Your candies always the best, and you always know when I need a treat."

"Sure Rigel, its all about the indulgence with you." She laughed at him, "You'll like where you're going then."

"Really." He said as he walked over to her and put as little space between her himself and the wall as possible. "Now comes the part I hate isn't it? You give me my job and I don't see you for a while. Why do you always want to hurt me so Ink?"

"Because you hurt the people our employers want us to." She ran her hands down his arms, pressed them on his stomach... Then firmly pushed him away, "And our fun time is over Rigel dear, maybe sometime I'll find some time for us again."

With that she slid away silently into the shadows, leaving Rigel only to laugh. Another silly human being that believed she had some advantage by flaunting her attributes, and depriving them when she saw fit. Her name wasn't Ink, it was a nickname Rigel started the first time they had an encounter. Not many people knew she had those tattoos. Rigel laughed some more, she was the same as any other human. If he really wanted something he would take it. Because she was right, Rigel lived for the indulgences.

He pulled the letter she had tucked into the edge of his pants with her nimble thieves hands and broke the wax seal. After a quick scan he chuckled.

"I needed a bath too."

The younger light mage searched through the temple for Sol. If anyone could tell him if this Viken could have lodging within the temple, it'd be him.

Eventually, throughout the temple, he saw him from a distance and joined in with his entourage for a moment to ask him.

Mr. Ascardel? There's a man named Viken here who is looking for lodgings. With your permission, could he stay here? It's the safest place I know of, and I don't know any other inns...

************

Viken walked through the town area near to the temple of light. He found it incredibly generous of the young student to offer him a room, though it also made him feel that it was out of lack of knowledge than generosity.

Hmmm, i wonder...

He found the tavern that was pointed out by the mage and walked in. A server guided him to a table and asked him of his order.

What'll ye have?

Does your cook make Lamb Soup?

Yes, he does. It's particularly good as well.

I'll have that.

The server nodded and walked back to the kitchen. Viken set his bag down, looping the strap around his leg. He didn't know this city, and as such didn't know who around might be some kind of thief.

arrow Hefter's Haven (Bath House)

Mick had been following the two women when he suddenly felt something, feeling very similar to a large slab of warm meat, grasp his shoulder firmly and shove him aside, where the moon mage was introduced to a wall. Fortunately and not, the wall was firm, and not part of one of the many paper walls ((proper term?)) within the bath house.

Rubbing his nose and checking for anything that could be broken, Mick glanced over to see what had hit him: the fattest man he had ever seen...

Mick knew exactly what he wanted to do... something involving stringing some hefty meat from a ceiling and having a nice round of piñata hitting, but the mage restrained himself.

I know better... plus Hefter would charge me an arm an a leg for whatever damgage, physical, mental, or otherwise, I'd cause... Dammit.

As his two escorts apologized in rapid succession, Mick muttered, "That guy could really use a dose of poetic justice or something..."

One of the larger man's escorts backtracked to Mick. It was Hina, a very nice niece of Hefter's. "I'm terribly sorry about our client, sir Brightman. Could we interest you in the private bath that was reserved for..." Hina leaned in close and whispered, "His Gurthiness back there?"

Mick laughed and said, "That'd be just fine, Hina. And rest assured, I know better than to start anything in here. I think I'm still paying back for the last time... Lead the way!"

Mick was escorted to a small room where a steaming bath was already waiting. His escorts left, allowing him to disrobe in private. After he sat in the heated waters, Mick leaned back, letting his long hair flow about freely in the water.

He would have felt more relaxed, except he was pretty sure he could still hear "His Gurthiness" barking loud orders at the workers.

"People like that deserve what's coming," Mick murmered.
