blacksun45 i play alto but want to play tenor Tenor = sexy. Even my BD agrees. XD She yelled at me earlier for not playing the low notes in my solo loud enough because, and I quote, "low notes on the tenor are sexy." XDDDDD

I'm an alto, and i've been playing for 4 years xd I'm only a freshman in highschool, so I've got a whole "career" ahead of me! We're going to play "The Phantom of the Opera" for our spring concert. Sooo cool!

XDDDDD That's true we jazz folks call it the "fru fru sound" it's just really smoothed out subtones just like Dexter Gordon played. Real nice stuff it's the sound that's usually associated with the Tenor Sax.

Psssh, yeah, unless you go to my school and all the tenors suck. I'm tempted to learn tenor just to see if I could actually be sweet at it. XD

I play alto, soprano, tenor, and barry *longs to play bass* I'm getting a new alto soon. Has anyone got the Yanagisawa A 901? I'm thinking of getting it, I've tried it out and it plays real smooth, but I'd like to know if it stays that good. But anythings an improvement from my decades old Buecher sweatdrop

But anythings an improvement from my decades old Buecher sweatdrop Hey there's nothing wrong with Bueshers domokun I used to play on one in highshool and it had the sweetest sound. The Buesher was the very first sax ever made in the United States! (oh if your wondering it's pronounced "Bisher") What model is your Buesher? Is it an Aristocrat? If it is those are nice horns and if kept up well make a nice horn for all around playing. The Yanagisawa 901 A isnt a bad horn i like the Yanagisawa horns for the playability, design, and all around price. The model you're looking into has gotten some good reviews although there were little complaints about the intonation in the high range. It has a high F# key and the action is pretty sweet it's a really well designed instrument. The awsome thing about this horn is the price it's great if your looking for a good pro style horn that doesnt cost much. Coupled with a good mouthpiece you got an awsome horn that you're looking at. The silver model is even sweeter not only by look but by play as well. Yanigasawa does make a better model the 991 but it's a bit more expensive try that one out if you get the chance and compare it to the 901. Happy shopping MHHornfreak

Baka-baka-chan I play the tenor... just started a few weeks ago ^_^ i played flute before (and still) but that made it easy to switch to sax because the fingerings are the same. our marching/pep band was in need of a tenor, so i'm now the only one. plus, i now play in the jazz band Flute has the same fingerings as sax??? I didn't know that...I play alto and some tenor. I'm doing tenor for marching band next year biggrin I'm also going to audition for Jazz band next year, but our practises are monday-friday at 6:30 in the morning, so I have to find a ride....

They're generally the same... obviously there are some differences since the sax has extra keys, but a lot are the same.

The Buesher was the very first ... I strongly disagree with you there. My sax is an aristocrat and I would say that by todays standards its a below average sax. It's made for beginers and therefore produces an average sound, of course its all personal opinion but the 901 is indescribable compared to the aristocrat. I'm in highschool at the moment, only being 13 and for that age, yes, it is a good sax, but I play my sax for money (believe it or not) and it's just not good enough standards for the places I want to go with it. Eveyone I've spoken to has said that the aristocrat isnt amazing. But whatever you feel best playing I guess. It also has been dropped in the many years that it has been played so that contributes to the sound.

I wouldn't know but my friend Kieran played flut for a long while, he switched to sax 2 years ago and he's lead alto in the wirrals best band. So it musnt be that different xp
