Chipping would have worked really well this time, in tandem with Dawson's distractions. When she came for the lion, it felt like this would be no different from the last, a slow and steady break.

But it wasn't the same, and somewhere deep down, she recognized that. Something about this lion had her blood boiling just a little hotter, and her trident digging just a little deeper. It wasn't the way it retaliated, it was the way she felt hurting it.

She was trying to get satisfaction from the fight. She recognized it the moment she jumped up on the lion, and stabbed it over and over, barely hearing the sound of herself screaming until it was too late. She stopped, and stared down at the giant hole she'd made in it's back, until it rolled and flattened her underneath it's weight.

She was frustrated. That was natural, she told herself. There was nothing confusing about it. They'd been at it for so long, so of course-
Her trident bit back against it's side, rammed deep into the marble flesh until it rolled off of her and let her get up.
She wasn't frustrated about this temple. She was frustrated at how unsatisfying this fight really was.

One more slam, one more scream, one more rumble of warning inside of her mind. Thaw wanted to help, but he knew the moment he said something, the moment he tried to advise his charge, she would rebel.
He stayed quiet, and watched in anguish as she suffered.

Something had to give. She climbed up onto the lion and she stabbed, she kicked, she punched until her knuckles were red and raw, but not even the pain felt satisfying now. She stared down at her bloody knuckles, wide eyed at the feeling of pain. Just pain.
Nothing else.
The lion threw her so far back that she was temporarily out of sight.

Maebe was naturally intimidating in battles, but he had never seen her this vicious in all the times they had fought in the temple. In self-defense, sure, in protecting him, most definitely. But outright savage was a new sight, and in turn his own attacks were feeble, little strikes that felt mechanical and weak and insulting.

And then there was blood again, and his heart twisted in natural concern, his mind leapt to confusion and questions. Was she just frustrated, or...?
Dawson struck the statue until it crumbled and then hastily looked for Maebe in the long overgrown brush. "Mayb? You alright there, sunshine?"

She pushed herself hastily out of the bush she'd been brooding in, once she heard his voice. Her knuckles were still red, but she refused to give them any further attention. They were failing her. "Right as acid rain." She murmured, less than enthusiastic about being flung away at the end of the fight. She gave the mess of marble one side glanced flicker to clarify that he'd finished it off, before turning to walk towards the lake. After a few steps, though, she stopped. Her face scrunched up with annoyance, and she turned her head to mutter something back at him. "Sorry." She knew she was being brusque. "I'm fine." Without looking up at him, she continued forward.

His face fell more and more with each word, but he didn't speak up. Just a bob of the head to acknowledge he'd heard her. Maybe Dawson should have said something, but he was afraid of rousing that beast out of her again.
He turned his look upon the pool instead. Either it too didn't want to see what would happen if it happened to tick him off at this point, or it was particularly merciful. He chose the former because the temple wasn't aware of what the latter was at all.

The silence was appreciated. The vine bashing was not. She was slammed, dragged, and flung back to shore, left there to stew in her confusion and a little bit of a concussion.
Keeping her hair in a bun really wasn't working much, when she was flung around so many times. Cascades of little messy pink curls hung out of the battered bun in awkward angles.

She plodded her way carefully through the water one more time, hopping over the vines so as not to disturb them when she saw them. She found the hard surface of the shore a comfort to her feet, but it was like a drop of water in an empty well.
"Tada." She announced, just as she had a few times before, with so much less energy and feeling to it.

"Tada," he echoed with a little smile, though what he really wanted to ask was do you want bandages yet or do you want to feel them hurt a little longer?
A chill went up his spine as Syn hissed, and then something much, much larger growled behind him. He clutched at her bloody hand and got the hell out of dodge without looking back.
