"There are," Eron replied tentatively, "They often view the world differently, their ability to access the social situation can be impaired, they might be obsessive about one or two things, or they might not understand how other people view the world around them. There are other symptoms, and not all of them occur at once, or are even that severe."

It had never occurred to Eron until Shoneah mentioned it that Andarien could be a special case as some people would call it.

"It's also not unheard of for people like that to be very good at a particular field, though Andarien's kind of brilliance, if that is the case, is very rare."

Shoneah nodded. "So ... should I worry about him at all?" she asked him hesitantly. "I mean, mood swings like that, they're not going to ... I don't know, he's not dangerous, is he?"

She was in completely unknown territory with Andarien. She had no idea what to expect or how to react. Would he do odd things at inappropriate times? If they were attacked, would he be helpful? Or would he run and hide? Would he cause harm? Endanger someone?

She'd been raised to ask questions, to know as much as possible about a situation, and this was the second strangest situation she had ever been in.

Second of course to finding herself in this world in the first place.

Eron was genuinely surprised by the question, but when he thought about it, he shouldn't have been. He had heard stories from fellow teachers who sometimes had parents come in being very uncomfortable with such students attending class with their children.

"No," Eron shook his head, "I mean, if you think about it, that kind of swing from being really sad to being very happy, is something a six year old would do. He just might not have the social maturity, but that certainly wouldn't make him dangerous."

He paused, thinking about the training he had received. It varied from child to child, but he had some knowledge.

"His parents would not be traveling if they thought his handicap could bring him or others harm."

Then Eron paused, in the last school year alone, the teachers had to push for at least six assessments for the older children alone. It made him wonder, did Andarien's parents suspect anything?

Shoneah sighed with relief and smiled again. "I suppose I've lived a rather sheltered life, haven't I?" she asked him softly. "Never having been exposed to ... well, anyone or anything that was different from normal."

She leaned back slightly and closed her eyes, turning her face towards the moon. "I wonder if they realize," she murmured. "I asked Miyuki about him and her response was that he's simply socially awkward. That didn't make sense to me, but ... I didn't feel right prying any further."

"I'm not sure how far apart they really are in age, but if she grew up with him, she might not have noticed. I mean, Andarien otherwise is.. very bright."

He probably should ask Andarien's parents, just in case. While it clearly did not hamper his learning, if that's how Shoneah reacted, there would probably be others who weren't familiar.

"How bad was he when he was angry?" Eron asked curiously.

"How bad?" Shoneah arched one eyebrow as she thought about how to answer that. She supposed it depended on what Eron meant by 'bad', but then, most such words were up to the interpretation of the person of whom answer was expected.

"I suppose ... well, it was very shocking," she said hesitantly. "I offered to help him and he was very ... I'm not sure how to term it, actually. Rude. Vengeful. Full of anger, rage almost. That's why it was so shocking for me when as soon as Miyuki mentioned I was hoping to borrow his tools, he was very suddenly bright and cheerful, as if nothing had happened."

She shrugged. "Had he the ability to hold his blade, I'm sure something - or someone - would have ended up damaged in some way."

Eron nodded at this slowly, while he wasn't there, if Andarien was handicapped in the way he thought Andarien was handicap, it might not have been as bad as Shoneah thought.

"And it could be, he wasn't as angry, or in that case rage or vengeful as you read him," Eron carefully replied, only because he wasn't sure of the full situation himself, "Part of the... social impairment, is either reading a situation wrong, or responding in a way that gives other people the wrong impression, without fully realizing the consequences. It also depends on how you asked to help, sometimes sentences, words, phrases take on a literal meaning or a different meaning..."

He shrugged at this and was starting to think, he should ask. Before they got into trouble.

"I'm guessing though, without really getting to know him and asking his parents, who knows."

Shoneah shook her head incredulously. It was so strange to her, and she didn't know if she would ever get used to it.

"I think the frightening part is that I agreed to teach him about pressure points," she murmured. "Kaito is supposed to be teaching him, apparently, but his idea of teaching seems to be causing pain and walking away."

And if his teacher was that kind of person, maybe it was no wonder Andarien had issues.

"Did you have a chance to speak with his parents?" she asked Eron curiously. "I spoke a bit with Wren today, but aside from her, Miyuki and Andarien, I really didn't speak with anyone else."

"No... actually, I mainly spoke with Shiro and Lancerial when she came back with her husband," Eron admitted.

It had been nice to talk about science with someone who could understand him, even if he didn't always understand Shiro. Shiro was far more advance than a high school teacher.

Shoneah smiled. "They seem very nice, all three of them. I'll admit, the thought of learning magic is ... a bit tempting, though I have no idea what kind I'd learn. Did you get to practice more today? I saw you meditating this morning ..."

She didn't know enough to ask about details.

"Just a bit, it's still giving me trouble, though the advice from Miyuki helped," Eron replied.

Though he had a funny feeling his attempts were kind of bothering the young woman. The fact she noticed without opening her eyes was a bit telling.

Shoneah half-smiled. "It seems they've been at this - traveling - for a long time," she murmured. "I think ... I think that gives me some confidence that we will return home safely eventually, but ... I know this is selfish of me, but I do wish we could just head home right away."

She also had to admit, though, that part of her was curious to know what the rest of this world was like. Wolsic and Shiezin were two very different countries geologically, despite being right next to each other; would the other countries be as different as well?

"That's okay, I can't blame you. Even if it doesn't seem long to everyone else, to us it'll be a long trip," Eron admitted.

They probably won't be the same after this, several years on a journey was a long time for anyone.

"But it can't be helped, so we'll just make the best of it."

"I know." Shoneah smiled faintly at Eron. She understood. And if her family had been with her, she would have been in no rush at all. She just missed them.

She rose to her feet and touched Eron lightly on the shoulder. "I'm going to retire for the night," she murmured, her smile widening slightly. "Good night, Eron. And thank you for your encouragement."

And with that, she headed off into the darkness for the tent she was sharing with Miyuki and Wren to go to sleep.

For the next few days onward, Eron began to spend more time with Andarien when he wasn't learning magic with Miyuki and Lancerial. He wanted to be absolutely sure he was correct about Andarien before asking his parents for any advice (or maybe even give advice).

Miyuki on her part had been practicing with Lancerial and Iorlas on their stories, soon they would be having their first performance, which was good. Performing meant money, and money meant she could start investing in the second part of her idea and that was bringing goods (specifically food and spices) from one place to another.

When she wasn't doing that, she was working on the mobile home. Figuring out how to fit so many people into a single space.
