Ah, a new quest! Wonderful! More things to explore, more things to learn, more things to... the ground trembles, the world shakes, and the Jabberwock appears. Her heart hammered against her chest, whether it was excitement or fear or something else entirely, fouof will never say. But she barely heard the little beep of her pocket card telling her of her low HP over the sound of her frantic run.

It was instinct that propelled her forward rather than attempt to stay put and hide. Somehow, she didn't want to wait around to see if a Mad Hatter was too mad for a Jabberwock to consume. Something about the razor sharpness of those teeth suggested otherwise.

Running wasn't a cowardly thing for fouof, no, really, it wasn't. It was called a tactical maneuver to guarantee survival and sometimes it was called an advancement to the rear.

"And where do you think you're going?"

She froze in her tracks. That voice, it sounded like... it sounded like superior! She couldn't help herself, even though she knew the jabberwock could still be in hot pursuit, fouof slowly turned and was promptly devoured.

She was back to square one with the shaking ground and the Jabberwock making its presence felt. This time she was particularly aware of it as it caught her hard on the back. Using the momentum, fouof pitched herself forward to further distance herself from the beast.

The voice this time was ignored, having learned her lesson the hard way, fouof kept moving. At the fork in the road, she immediately went left, picking up a Second Chance Timer as she continued to flee.

She isn't surprised that the jabberwock caught up to her, this was a game, after all. Something that requires predetermined actions be made for the next portion of the event to occur. So, naturally she isn't surprised when she gets swatted about easily, either. Even if this had not been Wonderland, and she was not a Mad Hatter but what she truly was, fouof wasn't built to withstand blows.

She'd been trained, of course, and it looked like it had all been worth it. She was, after all, still standing. She still had her wits about her, enough to remember she should be using the momentum to push her forward and put more distance between them.

[ THE CHASE PART 2 ]
The rumbles of thunder faded, but they were still there behind her. Reine struggled to catch her breath, feeling almost as if she was going to pass out from sheer exhaustion.

Slipping behind a tree, she paused for a while, panting, and snuck a quick peek at the direction she'd come from. Still nothing in sight, and there was no way you could miss something that huge.

"Keep running, don't stop now!" With a gasp she turned around, looking frantically for Eva. Was she here somewhere, too?

"There's no time to turn back, come on, Reine, run!"

"Otto?"

Their voices felt so close to her, somehow, as if they were whispering right into her ear; and yet they were nowhere in sight. More voices urged her on, some of them too soft to make out.

"All right, I'll go.." One more quick look around, but the thundering footsteps were getting closer. No time to waste; she took off again, deeper into the forest.

She was dangerously weak but she kept running, kept pushing herself to get away because there was no jacking way she was going to be able to stand her ground and fight this thing. Not that she had ever considered that course of action, it wasn't their way. Because you always let someone else do that if you could, Superior always said.

And judging by the way this particular quest was structured, getting the jack out of here was the whole point. She didn't dare turn around, or maybe she should. Maybe the sight of all those teeth gnashing her into nothing would motivate her legs to go faster.

The path took her to a fork, far too reminiscent of the one where the garden snake had ambushed them.

[ THE CHASE PART 4-1 ]
As it came closer she could hear, aside from the thundering footsteps, the crackling of branches breaking away. The trail of devastation the Jabberwocky left behind made it easy to track, if anyone felt even the least bit inclined to do so.

Reine did not; and so she ran, faster and faster, dodging and weaving through the trees as much as she could. Trunks snapped behind her, trees uprooted or smashed into pieces as the Jabberwocky swung its tail or paws, and once, it almost scratched her.

If only speed boosts were a thing in this game.

[ THE CHASE PART 4-2 ]
It stopped, and she made the mistake of stopping as well, of turning back. The Jabberwocky stood, almost elegantly, wings outstretched and head turned away from her, staring intently at something.

Crouching beneath a tree branch, Reine watched curiously. Whoever had drawn the Jabberwocky's attention was in for a bad time. The monster roared suddenly, and snapped back to action; the hunt was on. Its tail lashed a circle around it and knocking her back from her hiding place, before taking off in a completely different direction.

At least.. she seemed to be safe now.

fouof managed to finally get herself from out of the Jabberwock's range and was glad this whole thing wasn't for nothing. Now she had the opportunity to think about the strangeness of it all, how the lack of pain and muscle fatigue could not be more evident in such a quest. She should be breathing hard, or harder than she already was at the moment. She should be shuddering at the sheer thought of the Jabberwock eating her more than once.

But her thoughts were easily derailed as the rewards for this particular quest presented themselves to her. And they were definitely better than she expected! And is that, why yes, it was! It's a fragment! One more for the White Queen's side!

The woods had been so peaceful, in a relative sense. Predictable, at least, in its racket and thrum of activity. Mimsy chose to remain there just a little longer, and was doing little more than swaying and cheerfully humming the tune to a song she didn’t know.

Until the woods were not very peaceful at all. Her eyes grew wide, and she swallowed the tune on accident in her startled state. What was this?

The inhabitants of the trees were happy to answer her, many of them all at once: “It’s coming!” they said, and screeched, and wailed, and tweeted, and sang, but the message was all the same.

It was coming.

“Oooohhh, Sveeeensyl.” Her voice wavered like a mockery of a ghost, and her hands found her cheeks, fingers curling beneath the weight of an excitement so tremendous that it was hard to bear. “It’s coming! It’s coming!”

<’It’s coming!’> Svensyl cheered. <’Callay! Callay! The Frabjous day!’>

The thrill of it coming bounced back and forth so rapidly between the two of them that she felt as if her extremities were suddenly made of electricity. They weren’t, of course, but she still kind of thought they were.

She bounced up and down on her toes as she looked at her fingers, slowly beginning to wiggle them. The action was quickly followed by another of her hysterical outbursts of laughter, and as the woods descended into silence, all she could do was laugh.

He'd just returned from a rousing debate with his fellow guild members over whether or not the creature in the woods needed to be dealt with. Of course, if the answer had been yes, then it would have been their undertaking. No guild was going to match their ability to protect the woods from harm, after all. Theirs were the achievements, the glory, the praise.

And the loot. Always the loot.

But he had yet to see a creature in the woods, and he was starting to wonder if his guildmates had gone quite mad. They spoke of teeth and claws and roars, when all he'd known were trees and mushrooms. He felt rather left out - if they were having a shared hallucination, it was selfish of them to have kept it all for themselves!

So he returned to the woods, and found a comfortable, not-talking tree. With several expert swings, he was high up in its branches, waiting to see if a creature - or a hallucination of one - would come to him at last. Birds came, screeching and telling him that they, too, had seen something. Rabbits and watches informed him of the same, all of them running away while he sat there, vigilantly waiting. But he saw no creature.

Instead, he saw a vision.

There was no way, and every way, for him to know it was her. So he did, because he'd been created in this world for her. That was his sole purpose. To have not recognized her would have meant he was created for nothing - or not created at all. Still sleeping, perhaps. Instead, he knew her by the way his heart sang to leap down and scream I've found you! by way of greeting.

But he didn't. Because really, that wasn't what the Mad Hatter would do.

She was vibrating with excitement, perfect in her perfect world. He'd always known she would be happy, here.

"I say." He called out from the tree top, tugging his hat down until it covered his eyes. All she could see was a cocky, wide grin. "Do you have the time? Or day? All of these watches running by won't tell me, it's really rather rude."

Small IC description of character: Other than a pair of white angel wings, this particular mad hatter looks remarkably normal at first glance. Blonde, spiky hair and a looming tall build - but to look in his eyes is to understand why he'd been picked for his job class. Blood red, with dark circles under them, and one was dilated fully and usually twitching. Mad was a good way to put it.

A voice from a tree meant another Cheshire, Mimsy assumed, and her movements slowed to make way for a more attentive state. Though the voice barely made it to her ears through her laughter, she was glad to acknowledge it, in an effort to be polite.

When she looked up, she barely stifled a snort of laughter. She should have known better than to assume. It was best to skip all of that and go right to knowing in Wonderland.

“You are not a cat,” she pointed out, which might have been obvious in another world, but was just not quite in this one. Intrigued, she tilted her head and wandered closer to him, soles cautious against the forest floor. The way she crept closer with careful balance and near-silent footfalls did make her resemble a cat. Or it could have been the fault of the ears and tail instead.

“I do have the time!” Now that she was close enough to get a better glimpse of him, she offered him a smile, happy to assist him. That was how it should be in Wonderland. Everyone should always answer, because everyone should always know. “I have quite a lot of time. Not on my hands, as you can see.”

She held up her hands, fingers splayed, palms flat, so he could see.

“Despite that deceptive fact, I do. I have more time for particular sorts of circumstances than others, naturally, but I am certain that I can find the time that you require. I do not have the day, however; as high as the demand is for seizing them, I find that it is much more efficient to seize more than just one day. Oh, I apologize! It was not my intention to assault you with an unpopular opinion. I hope that you are not offended. It was an innocent mistake, I assure you; it is just that I am reminded of someone who listens when I speak about anything and everything, especially the sort of everything that I would never speak aloud to everyone, and...anyway! Is there a specific time that you are searching for? I suppose that a small bit of clarification would be beneficial for both of us - are you requesting the time, or a time, more precisely?”

Throughout all of her rambling, she’d been rocking back and forth on her heels, only stopping when she asked her final question. All of her seemed to stop, in fact, as she patiently awaited his answer.

So many smiles, so much laughter. She was in her element, and he could feel the electricity she exhuded from here. She thought he was a cat? Well then he lounged, holding his hat as his body bent backwards to look at her upside down. She showed him her hands, and he scrutinized them from his perch, his eyes barely visible under the lid of his hat. And then she spoke that beautiful, lyrical nonsense that Robert knew to be exactly what he'd been reaching for every moment he'd been here - and with one single line, he also knew he'd failed. She was, and always would be, the goddess of Wonderland.

He pulled himself up straight just to hop off the tree, breaking several branches in his fall. Heavy boots left imprints on the ground as he landed, and straightened up tall. He towered over her, moreso than usual, and the wings on his back unfurled majestically. It felt important to look like more than he was. Much more.

"I am requesting all of your time. All of your days. I want every hour, every minute, until time itself runs out. And oh, I won't be taking no for an answer."

He took his hat off, and flourished in a heavy, low bow. Still in that position, he tilted his head up, and grinned at her.

Despite the one dilated eye, the darkness around his eyes, the crazed grin, the spiky hair, he was never creative enough to dream up someone too far from himself. It was obvious, but just in case it wasn't, he clarified.

"My search has taken me all over this land, but it's over now. I've found you, Mimsygirl."
