"Nah. You wouldn't owe me anything," he responded, listening and looking as Sarad spoke. "Well you don't know who's willing to go with you if you don't ask, and the worst they can say is no." but the other appeared to be sinking, and Dale needed to bring him back above water.

"Well cooking already attracts women." he pointed out, "Plus you're very friendly, and you're funny, and your intelligence is pretty impressive." he said. "You're kind and hey, you're really helpful you ruined your best clothes getting me to the nurse, remember? If I was a girl and you asked me out I'd drop on my knees and blow you."

"I said if I was a girl!" he laughed, "And no one's saying to ask a girl like that. They'll probably slap you so hard you'd turn in to a different ethnicity." and shrugged, wondering how Sarad would feel if he knew that Dale was gratifying his own primal urges when the other was at club. Haha, he was never going to bring that up. "Potato potahto my friend. And you're welcome. I think you're pretty great. I've never had someone stick around long enough for me to call them a friend."

"You know what. Let's walk by the girls' dorms. If I don't see Tami you're bound to see someone you know from your club." he said with a grin, changing directions. "And you aren't winning that twenty dollars. I won't let you. Friend or not money is a serious game." and laughed.

"Dude if I win you're making me chicken nuggets and fries." he said, praying to god they wouldn't run in to Tami. He was just joking around, it was fun. Normally his joking around got annoying but Sarad seemed to be powering through it.

"Oh are they? That's cool." He thought on this, :I dunno is it fancy? I'm running out of fancy clothes, Sarad. But for you I'll buy more if I need to." and shook his head, "They don't owe me anything. You wanted to stay so I helped you stay. That's what friends do."

"Oh, all right. I can wear jeans and a shirt then. I'll make sure it's my nicest pair of jeans though." he said quickly. "But I don't know why, I was just being a good friend." he sighed, "I'll go to your dinner, but really Sarad. You being my friend is cool enough." and grinned, gently patting his arm, remembering that the back was still a no touching zone.

"I'm telling you, your family's gonna have to fight me if they so much as try to pull you out of that club." he explained, glancing up and down the girl's dorm as though there would be a giant sign indicating if Tami was there.

"I think I'm lucky to have you as my friend, you laugh at my corny jokes. I appreciate it." he very very gently pat the upper part of Sarad's back, not wanting to hurt him. "But I like to think I'm pretty amazing." and laughed.

"I don't have an awkward gait!' Dale said as Tami snuck up behind them, looking at her with a frown. He felt his cheeks heat up out of embarrassment and had to quickly look away. God he didn't even like her he just wanted to go as friends why was he getting so nervous. She was a girl for Christ's sake! The worst she could tell him was no!

He looked back over at the girl, catching Sarad's eye and frowned harder, feeling the heat up to his ears, "Well we'll work on him later," he said, trying to think of a smooth way to ask her to the dance. "As for why we're at the girl's dorm, we've been looking for you becaauuuse,"

He'd rather be punched in the mouth, really. Why was asking her so hard?

"Becaauuuuussseeee,"

C'mon Dale just spit it out,

"Because you're a great friend, and I need a friend to go to the dance with, and Sarad wouldn't look good in a dress."

That could've been executed so much better.

"Whaddya say? I'll even pay for your ticket."

Punch him. Just punch him. Right in the flapper.
