"Your mother is wrong. She'd always been wrong." Devon said in a resigned manner. "My Little Lark, isn't dead. Just buried. And she is loved. She will always be loved." he said, his voice little more than a whisper. "I can't let you die, Lark. I can't." He lowered his head until it was resting on the bed. He closed his eyes, miserable. "I have no girlfriend. You were my one and only. But I've told you everything I knew to say. You don't have to believe me. But I will prove to you, I've never lied to you. Not once." He stood, his face expressionless. He was careful not to touch her as he pushed the blankets more snugly around her. "Get better soon, Lark. I won't bother you again." Devon turned to leave. He closed the door softly behind him.

Bo entered the room about that time. She couldn't get near Devon. His anger and misery were palpable right now. She could get near him. Lark wasn't much better, but bearable. To think this could be fixed so easily. She shook her head. "Lark? You awake?" Bo asked. She was positive she was conscious though. "I brought you some soup."

Lark sat up or tired to when she heard the voice of a woman the one that was on the phone with her a few days ago outside the door. "Yes i'm awake please come in." she invited as she began coughing again. She laid back on the pillows miserable

Bo entered with a tray in her hand and a sheepish smile. "Hey. You look awful." she joked. She looked even worse then Devon, but she had that same dismal expression on her face. She sighed and walked over, setting the tray on the night stand. "I'm your care-taker today." she stated, pulling up a chair and straddling it.

Lark sniffed. "You don't even know the half of it." she said in a down hear ted tone. "Was it you who brought me the clothes because if it was thank you." she didn't acknowledge the comment about her having a new caretaker but she did turn her head away from the food with a groan.

"Oh I think I can understand." she muttered. "And no problem. I enjoyed picking things out for you. Bo watched her reaction to the food and empathized with her. "I know it doesn't sound good. But you need to eat. Even if it's just a few bits." She looked the bowl and stirred the soup with a spoon, trying to cool it. She held out a spoon full. "Here, just take a bite for me."

Lark sighed given in. "Alright but just one." she said opening her mouth for the spoon after she swallowed she immediately felt ill with a tightness in her chest and pain in her stomach she curled up on the bed and moaned turning away from Bo so she couldn't see how green she just turned but she couldn't really hide the gasping breaths or the coughing.

Bo grimaced. "I'm sorry. Your stomach going to be really sensitive for awhile." she said. She put the bowl to the side and rubbed her hand gently up and down Lark's back. She hoped it might help her nausea. "Do you think you can take some medicine. It might help."

"That or make it worse." Came the weak replied from Lark as she turned around looking worse than before because of the sweat building up on her forehead "Please tell me it's a pill." she asked before she paused to listen to a howl that rang through the house it sounded like a dying animal. "What was that?" The sound made her chest squeeze but in a different way then before

Bo heard it and flinched. Unfortunately Devon didn't need to go to work today. He didn't have a thing do distract himself. He was already purposefully seperating himself from Lark. She guessed he was in his room and had reverted to wolf form. Sometimes she wandered if he even noticed when he let those sounds escape. He would forever blame himself of nearly killing Lark. "Don't worry about that." she told Lark. She didn't need to know right yet. She went to the drawer and pulled out the medicine the doctor prescribed. "Don't worry. It's a pill." She dumped two in her hand to give to the girl.

Lark flinched also when the same call sounded louder this time and further off she could her one or two other echoes of the sound probably from other wolves or coyotes near by she cringed in pain as her chest got tighter in response to that sound. "Is he hurt or something?" Lark asked breathless as she took the pills and swallowed. "If he's trying to make me feel sorry for him it's not going to work he's going to have to work to get my trust and love back please tell him that once I'm taken care of." she requested

Hearing her request irritated Bo. She wasn't as patient as Sheryl was. As hearing Devon in pain hurt her and the rest of the back, she could tell that it was hurting Lark as well. But she didn't seem to understand that. Maybe someone needed to. "I won't." she stated giving Lark the pills. "He is working to get it back. Who do you think has stayed by your side every chance he got? Who do you think blames himself for making you so sick you could have died? You seem to think of Devon as human. His heart and his wolf chose you as his mate." she said. Another howl broke out and she felt the urge to change and howl her comfort. Someone would be coming to help calm him of this could. "He made a huge mistake against you it's true. But that sound. That sound you hear, is the sound of a wolf that's been rejected by it's mate."

Lark looked at Bo darkly. "Who do think you are. Don't you think I know what that sound is don't you think I care because I don't. Don't even think for a second that i am not effected by all this too. And yes I know that Devon is not human but something more much more than what he let's on and I may have overacted by running away when he said yes to Robin without a thought of how I would feel about something like that but you need to understand that I saw no other way he broke my heart and I thought that well maybe if I was no longer around as if alive he could have Robin and he and everyone else would have been better off without me I was sure he would be much happier with her than he ever could with me but I don't think I can let him in anymore and if I do I won't survive another mistake like this i'm barely surviving now and I don't know if I could ever trust him again it's not like I want it to be this way because I don't I want to forgive him and move on but I can't I just can't." Lark finished as she began to sob her misery echoing that in the next howl that ripped through the house

Bo sighed and pulled Lark into a hug. She laughed a little because she seemed a little silly to her, but she also felt really sorry for the girl as well. She didn't know if Lark would believe her but she might as well explain. "Oh, Lark. Robin? Really? Devon has never seen Robin as anything but a useful secretary. He had her fired. Technically Fred did first, while we were looking for you. Then of course she decided to hang around. When Devon went in to work... well, let's just say it was a good think to was only him, Robin and two other pack members there. Or else someone might have called the police. Robin wasn't hurt, but we haven't seen her since." she said. In her opinion that woman needed a good punch to the face. "I rarely see Devon go into a rage. I'm almost glad I wasn't there." She sighed. "I'm not asking you to forgive him Lark. I just want you to know that Devon never makes the same mistake twice. And none of us like to see you two in pain. So do what you need to to patch yourself up, but be careful not to hurt yourself worse in the process. You may not feel it, but that connection is there. Trust me I know." The howling had finally stopped. It seemed Devon was in control of himself again.
