"Ah, we wondered if you might do that," Earendil grinned. "Mother told us you'd gone out with them. How did you find the city, now that you've been there without being dragged from one place to another?"
He was well aware that each time they'd gone to the city, they'd been going to where Earendil and Lin had wanted to go, talking to the people that they'd wanted to see; but he also knew that it had mostly been because Miyuki had been a child. Now that she was grown, he hoped she would be more independent.

Miyuki shrugged, "I didn't really do any wandering besides lunch, and really Uncle Dareon suggested it. So I suppose not really that different, but like I told Uncle Dareon I don't really know anyone. I mean... yes I know the people you know, but I don't know anyone personally."
There had never been time for that, and she didn't really play with the children in the Southland unlike the Westland and the Westland was a real hit and miss.

"Well, we do have the time now," Earendil mused. "As long as you keep up with your lessons, you're old enough to go to the city on your own now, I think. Feel free to do so.You like looking at different things, and there are many shops you haven't yet been to with your mother and me."
He looked down at Lin. "What do you think?" he asked her with a smile.

Lin nodded at this, she couldn't find fault in that. After all, Miyuki was a teen in the Gaian world and pretty much a young adult here.
"I think that should be fine, and from what I've heard you've been planning your lessons quite well."
Though it probably helped that now Miyuki knew somewhat of what she wanted.
Miyuki blushed and nodded at this.
"I'll keep up," she told them.

"Good." Earendil nodded in satisfaction. "And Lancaeriel says you've been having lessons regularly with her ... though she wasn't at lunch today, do you know anything about that?"
Sir Valdemar had been there, but he had appeared quite tired, and after lunch had said that he was going to lie down for a while.

"Lancaeriel was doing research all last night and didn't realize it was morning. So I'm guessing either she's still doing research when I left or she went and took a nap," Miyuki explained.
Though now that she thought about it, she didn't ask Lancaeriel what she was doing research on.
"They didn't even know it was morning until I came in for my lesson."

Earendil chuckled. "Shiro should spend some time with her. They're two of a kind I think. I have to say though, it's been a while since I've heard of Sir Valdemar doing research."
He paused. "Of course, it's been a long time since I've really spoken with Sir Valdemar."

"Though we have seen him around meal times, I don't think we really have sat down and talked with him," Lin admitted.
She felt a bit bad for that, she should really take time out a visit Sir Valdemar, she had know him since she was a mere Surprise after all.
"I didn't ask what they were researching," Miyuki admitted.

"Considering the ages of those two, and how much they know between the two of them, if they're researching together it must be something big," Earendil said flatly.
It was the only thing that he could think of. Not that it gave him any ideas as to what that something might be.

Miyuki nodded, but had no idea herself what that could be.
"Aunt Iorlas did say that Lancaeriel wanted to get this research done before we all leave."
But otherwise she didn't have any ideas herself.

"Do you think they would be offended if we asked them what it was about?" Earendil mused aloud.
If she wanted to get it done before they left here, it meant that either it was necessary for their journey, or else whatever it was could only be learned - to their knowledge - in the resources that were available here in the Southland.

"Well it wouldn't hurt to ask," Lin replied, "Besides, that's what happens when you notice one of them looks very tired and the other misses lunch."
It was hard to not be curious, even though Shiro would work hard, he (generally) didn't miss meals or stay up all hours of the night.

Earendil grinned. "Then shall we?" he asked, his eyes sparkling brightly as he pushed himself to his feet. He brushed off the back of his pants, then held his hand down to Lin to help her to her feet as well.

Lin laughed, "Now?"
She took his hand anyways and pulled himself up. Lin had figured they would ask the next time they saw the two, but not at this very moment.

Earendil laughed and pulled Lin into his arms, hugging her lightly before letting her go again.
"I must admit, I'm feeling antsy," he grinned. "It's been a very long time since we've been in one place this long with nothing to do but wait. And come on, it's been a long time since we've had the chance to be this curious about anything."
