I think I drank too much- between sampling the Althoth Brose, several helpings of mead and hot buttered rum, I'm feeling warm and dandy even though I know the house is really cold.

I go to all this trouble to make Annette a special Christmas Pudding only to be told after I have hand-candied citrus peel and bought the suet, that they may or may not eat it.

Open Minded should not be treated as a synonym for Brainless.
So, I was having a discussion with a bunch of people who said Morality is Subjective- that personal opinions on what is good or bad differ from culture to culture- and that there is no objective morality.
I proceeded to logically refute every reason they gave, summarizing with the point that cultural pluralism doesn't automatically mean every immoral action that is normal in other societies is suddenly moral. There are cultures that believe beating people like me to death is moral- that doesn't make it so. There are cultures that believe that raping me is moral- that doesn't make it so. It makes those cultures depraved in that regard. Our culture is similarly depraved when we create institutionalized bigotry, blame victims and other things. However- we're getting better.
Anyway- after being quoted by one person and repeatedly explaining why their line of reasoning is inconsistent, only to have them repeat their exact same point without addressing anything I mentioned as a counter point, a mod told us to knock it off. Ok. No biggie. I can wait until someone addresses the content of my post instead of repeating themselves.
So what do they do? They post a comment on my profile that was basically a backhanded way of saying "Are you stupid or do you just like to repeat yourself?" At which point I said "Look, if you quote and respond to me, I get to reply back. If you don't want a conversation- don't post, but don't think you get to post and tell others not to."
I woke up this morning to them making a post in the same forum where they said "Don't you hate it when you go some place and expect to find people who are open minded but only find the same closeminded jerks you get everywhere else?"
And that's my point. Being Open Minded doesn't mean brainless. I'm happy to have a reasoned discussion with people who disagree- I can keep it calm and level headed and explore evidence. But no one is going to change an opinion I form through research and test with logic by repeating their unsupported opinions. And no- that doesn't make me closed minded and open minded shouldn't mean gullible or thoughtless.
Plato and I disagree about a lot of stuff- but he was right that so many people just react without thinking. It's sad.
