With all his might, he was still struggling to try and keep himself from being entralled by the mindflayer. He didn't get it! Why was she trying to take over his mind? Jericho felt a sting of pain against his cheek, but it was of no use to wake him. The Illithid before him was trying to restrain him to keep him from fighting against it, but he could swear he was starting to lose control.

"No! Riley! STOP!" he pleaded while practically thrashing about. Ugh. He could feel her tentacles writhing all around his brain and it was not a pleasant feeling at all. Not to mention that it hurt like hell.

"Aaaauuuuh!" he screamed.

Sepheran watched as the fog began to thicken even more then usual, it engulfed them both. Sepheran and Arachne whom he had held hands with, whom he promised to stick by no matter what. Looking down to his hand he blinked. Wait...something was wrong. His fingers wiggled and he quickly pulled it back. Arachne's hand...her hand wasn't there!

Quickly stopping he turned. "ARACHNE?!" Sepheran called out in hopes the ghoul had only just let go and was only nearby.

"She's not here~" A voice replied in turn, though one he didn't recognize. "You let her go a while ago~ Silly Basilisk, silly silly Basilisk~" it continued.

Sepheran instantly went rigid eyes springing open despite the uselessness of it. "Who's there! What did you do to Arachne!" he hissed. He had promised her...he promised her and now he had broken that promise...

"That's right! You broke your promise~ But's it's okay, you can't be expected to keep your promises, you're just a silly useless Basilisk who couldn't scare a tiny little girl if you tried~" The voice continued.

Sepheran hissed again, "Don't call me useless!" he shouted.

"But you are, after all what use is a Basilisk without the ability to see? Hardly capable of the prized ability to bring death with your eyes. You can't do anything without Liannan~" It continued.

Sepheran's fists clenched in rage though he had no comeback. It was true wasn't it? Without another's help he was useless...

"That's right, that's right~ But that's okay...I'll give you your sight back little snaky, I'll give it back right now~" it cooed.

Sepheran blinked stepping backwards. Sight...he...he could see?! Had the voice really given him his sight back?! Looking around he could see the fog now, his fingers waved through the steam like substance.

"There, better now yes? Now you don't need Liannan on your shoulder now, say thanks to her for everything...and your friends you should thank them too, you've always wanted to see them didn't you?" It stated.

Sepheran was overjoyed. Liannan! That's right he could see her now looking over his shoulder to the white snake he smiled...the watched in horror as Liannan looked up at him and flopped lifelessly. "Liannan...no...no...NO NO!!" Sepheran screamed closing his eyes once more. This isn't what he wanted...sight...sight was nothing without Liannan...or his friends...if he looked at his friends...that's right...if he looked at them they would die too!

"HEhehehehe What's wrong? I gave you your sight back, that's what you wanted yes? You can see now, see everyone you love, everyone you meet die before your strong gaze. You're the perfect monster now~" the voice cackled

"No..not this...I don't want this..." Sepheran replied dropping to his knees as a shadow invaded his closed vision as if coming into the back of his eyelid.

"Don't want it? How heartless...I gave you a gift and you don't want it anymore? Too bad...too bad~ Watch your friends die, watch them get turned into lifeless sacks by your eyes~" it creened.

No...no...Sepheran wasn't going to let this happen. His flashlight...his flashlight maybe it could caste the shadow away! Quickly moving his hand to his shoulder he realized something horrible...it was gone...his pack was gone. No...not now...where was it?! Sepheran quickly patted the ground beside him desperate to find something...anything to help him get his flashlight back.

"Can't you hear it?" Malodore whispered, its eyes bright behind the lenses. It was almost like when Riley had shared its hivemind with her, ever so briefly. Its very own beautiful hive of knowledge. So precious. "It's everything I've ever wanted... everything you've ever wanted too..."

It held out a wad of papers to her, shoving them up to her tentacles. "Here! You eat them too!" Then she, too, would be welcomed into this new, glorious mind.

"Hello? Hello! Why aren't you looking over here? What are you doing?"

A tiny chorus of childish voices greeted Alwine as she watched Mandy run into the fog.

"I wonder why she left you? Why did she leave you? Doesn't she trust you? Maybe she's afraid?

You should be afraid, too. You shouldn't trust her, either."

It was all an illusion, Alwine kept on reminding herself.

"Hee-hee-hee, got your knapsack!"

The haunt whirled around, but there was nothing to be seen. The pack that had been sitting behind her was gone, including her flashlight and map pieces.

"I have to go... Mandy, wait for me!" Alwine picked up the hem of her dress and took off in a trot, trying to keep her eyes on the ground in case she came across her bag, or a cliff.

After a couple of steps, she started to run across pieces. Wait, were these even hers?

"Can you pick the right ones? Well, can you? Can you?!"

Alwine continued to run, looking down until she saw her bag and flashlight. A couple of pieces were near them, and she figured that it would be best to pick up the three closest to it.

"It's over. You picked those. You picked those?!?! How silly! You fool, you moron!"

Relentless and unforgiving, Riley's tentacles filled the crevices of Jericho's brain, slowly devouring the parts that were unnecessary and leaving the ones that could be easily controlled by her psychic powers.

Shhhh, she coo'd gently. It will all be over soon, precious. Just let me have you. Then you can be mine forever.

----

At least when Riley had gone through her own hallucinations, she had three strong boils holding her down to keep her from hurting herself and others. Here, with the two people most important to her both suffering, she had only herself. Where had everyone else GONE? She could really use their help right about now..

She reached over and grabbed Jericho by the neck, pulling him forcefully to her side. Then, as Malodore tried to shove something at her tentacles, those same tentacles wrapped around it and pulled it close.

She held the two face to face, and made a very apologetic expression.

I hope you guys can forgive me for this later. She muttered quietly.

Then she knocked both of their heads together.

CRACK!

-and it was gone, in an instant, like a window shattering and falling to the ground. Malodore stared at the now-empty air with its beak hanging open, then gave Riley a very sad look. "W-wha... I... erano così belli, mia cara," it said, piteously.

Gone. All gone. Its mind felt so hollow and empty. "I was sharing," it added. It couldn't really pout, but...

...

... "You never shared."

CRACK!

The intense pain of having a part of his brain eaten out ceased at that moment. For awhile, Jericho's vision was hazy as the impact had him stunned. Groaning, his mind slowly regained his clarity and he saw Riley standing before him without her tentacles digging into his head.

It.. must have been another illusion. Though, he still looked at his friend with a hint of wariness. Plus he had a headache now.

"You're... not.. going to try and get me to become your thrall.... right?"

Riley's eye twitched at Malodore's response, before she sucked in a deep breath. She couldn't exactly tell if it was even out of it's illusion yet.. and that glare it was giving her wasn't helping.

Jericho, however.. she felt a little relief that his cries had stopped. His question, however.. I don't know. Maybe I should, just so you can't go crazy on me again. It felt good to crack a joke in a moment of clear distress. She returned her gaze to Malodore, and her amusement melted away. Was it back yet? Had it worked for Malodore as well?

I would share with you. Riley whispered privately to it. Her hand dropped to rest on top of its own. I would share everything I have with you, if you wanted it. But right now, you were suffering from another illusion. I'm sorry if it was a good one, but it wasn't real.

"Wasn't... wasn't real...?" It stared at her. "But I heard it, I..."

Its voice petered out as it considered. Part of it wanted to deny her at once - she wasn't sharing, she was hoarding all the knowledge for herself! - but... no, there would be time for that later, wouldn't there? It could make her tell it later. There was always time.

It smiled. "Va bene, it wasn't real," it agreed smoothly. "But we should go. We should go... that way." It pointed in the direction the Knowledge had indicated.

... which happened to be pretty much straight up.

The plague doctor saw nothing logically wrong with this!

Rubbing his head where he had taken the hit, Jericho shifted a little uncomfortably at Riley's answer. He got that she was joking, but he didn't really want to have to go through anything like that again. If that was just an illusion, he'd hate to find out how the real process felt.

Looking back and forth between the other two, he soon raised a brow at Mal's decision.

"You sure that's where the lighthouse is?"

Riley followed the direction of Malodore's finger, and stared up at the foggy, gray sky. She then let out a long sigh, and put her hand to her forehead. They were getting nowhere. Fast.

Okay. Come on. She wrapped one arm around Malodore's, and one arm around Jericho, and pulled them quite forcefully in the general direction of the Lighthouse. As she did so, a small consideration came to her.

It's a shame you can't change, Jericho. Malodore's suggestion isn't wrong, technically. If you could fly, you could ride us out of this fog. Incidentally, being in the Lighthouse might put us at a high enough altitude to keep the fog away, as well.. That brightened her hopes considerably.

Either way, we're moving. Right now.

They were going the wrong way! And Riley didn't seem to care!

... Fine. Malodore let itself be dragged along. Literally - the plague doctor did absolutely nothing to help with Riley's forward motion. No walking, no nothing. Its hooves and tail left trails in the dust.

Sulk.

"Hm.. yeah. I could try flying you two one at a time but... that'd leave the other alone in the fog," he considered. It was probably better to stick together and walk rather than leave someone alone. But in any case, they've waited a long time. Jericho completely lost track of where anyone else was in the fog now. Hopefully they would be able to find their way.

"Alright," he nodded while slinging his bag back over his shoulder to keep moving.

He couldn't help but blink at the Plague doctor who looked less than happy.

"What's wrong?"
PostPosted: Tue Mar 22, 2011 6:19 pm

Riley stopped in her tracks when she felt Malodore stall and refuse to move of it's own accord. She turned, and her heart sunk like a stone at his sulk. Her hand tightened around it's arm when Jericho mentioned the idea of splitting them up - she wouldn't allow it. Neither would she allow Malodore to let it's illusions control it. She took a step forward, standing face to beak with the plague doctor.

Tesorino. Per favore. Fiducia in me e mi segua. Whatever it's hallucinations had convinced it, it was losing track of it's own common sense. What was real, and what was the lie, were blending together for all of them - but it seemed Malodore was the one having the most trouble distinguishing between them this time around. As much as she knew it was there for her when she couldn't see reality, she would be there to help it.

At whatever cost.

She started to try and lead it down the path, walking backwards as she held it's hands and pulled it along.
