Since when was Kieran bad, anyway?
PostPosted: Tue Apr 05, 2011 3:40 pm

Since you get him.

But seriously, he's not a bad unit, he just doesn't measure up to his counterpart, in most opinions.

Yes. He isn't bad. But he isn't best. His growth stats are good, though the biorhythm annoys me (though that isn't the worst either)... I have my mind on Path of Radiance, which I had no real need for him.

Best: Kent/Sain, though I must give a nod to Oscar/Kieran for Oscar's extreme usefulness. As a duo, Kent and Sain just work better for me, and as I no longer own FE 9, I don't have the opportunity to test out Kieran, whom I've never used before. However, I think I've only taken Kent to endgame once, and Sain never; they just aren't as good in the right stats as I'd like them to be, and I'd rather use other units. Personality-wise, Kent and Sain have a really funny dynamic when together, though I didn't take this into consideration when casting my vote.

Worst: Kyle/Forde of FE 8. Just not my cup of tea.

Yeah, Kieran definitely isn't as good as Oscar - Oscar is one of the best units in the entire game. But Kieran is still far from bad.

Kieran still has horse utility in a game where that is super advantageous, and as a result, access to what is arguably the most efficient Mastery Skill in this game, the ability to choose his second weapon at promotion, solid growths, and supports with more than one mounted unit (access to a nifty, all mounted support square, too in Oscar-Tanith-Marcia-Kieran, too). His joining time isn't awesome or anything, but still more than acceptable.

Worse than Oscar? Definitely. Bad? Not at all.

The votes have been tallied and the new topic is up. Best/Worst Archer/Sniper. I kinda forgot about the class for a while so it goes up now. Just as a notice next weeks Best/Worst might be delayed till that following Monday due to the fact that I will be at Anime STL next weekend.

Best: This one is a little tough for me. On one hand, there is FE7 Rebecca. For me, each time I use her, she always turns out great. She comes at a great time from both Hector and Eliwood's mode, has some funny supports, and is a great character to use.

On the other hand, we have Faval. There is one thing that makes him a candidate for this: Major Ulir blood, and the Ichival. Sure, he can be a pain to recruit, since right behind him is Ishtar, who will OHKO you if you are not careful. Depending on who the father is, he can have good skill, which will be necessary if you want to take Ishtar out with one blow. For me, I have to say Faval wins this. He becomes an asset to your team, despite coming a couple chapters later.

Worst: For those of you who have played FE5, you know about this particular unit: Ronan. This guy has all right growths...in magic. No seriously...his magic and strength are switched. Here are his growths:
HP Str Mag Skl Spd Luk Def Bld Mov
40% 15% 55% 45% 55% 20% 5% 2% 3%

Take a good look at it...then compare him to other units. Oh, and here is his base stats while I am at it:
Lv HP Str Mag Skl Spd Luk Def Bld Mov LS MS PC
1 20 4 0 3 7 3 2 7 7 0 3 1

This guy...would need a LOT of scroll abuse in order to become an asset. He has not been a good unit for me. He is benched

Best: Rebecca. She's pretty good as long as you train her.

Worst: FE9 Shinon. I just find his availability awful in this game. By this time I already have Rolf well trained enough that he can be killing just as much as his older brothers.

Best: Wil
Worst: Shinon (haven't use Shinon since I level Rolf up. >>; )

Best: FE9 Rolf- deciding factors are that he is really the only archer you get for near the entire game, plus he has a triangle attack with his brothers.
Worst: Leonardo- Perhaps the worst availability of any archer I can think of, plus a disappointing unit. Such a shame, I love his design...

Best: Neimi. I liked when I used her. I loved her speed and criticals.

Worst: Leanardo - Even though you get him right in the beginning. I don't like him.

Best: Rebecca. I thoroughly enjoyed using her more than any other archer.

Worst: Castor (Shadow Dragon). Mediocre growths.

Really, I don't much care for Archers/Snipers in general. Being locked to mono-bows is a hindrance, and while it is one that can be worked around, I'd argue the fact remains that Archers/Snipers require more accommodations than just about any other class bar healers (and providing that for healers is certainly easier to justify given their different function - Archers are a combat class).

Best: FE10 Shinon

Now that might seem peculiar when compared to Faval's access to Ichival and ability to be a complete boss killer, very conveniently killing Ishtar a couple of times. But even Faval suffers from the Mono-bow curse of Snipers, only he DOESN’T get a horsie or canto to work with. So why Shinon? Because Crossbows are ******** boss in FE10 for plenty of time in-game, Shinon is surprisingly tanky (and has an excuse to use his tankiness thanks to Crossbows), and thanks to the level you get him at, it’s hardly an effort to get him to Marksman. Oh! On that note, Marksman goes quite a long way for making up for mono-bows. Constant 2-3 range with a bow might not be as good as 1-2, but it’s still a hell of a lot better than just 2-range and opens up strategies that wouldn’t be usable otherwise. It’s also quite valuable for killing retardedly strong bosses (a-la Endgame bosses) in a single turn, much like how Faval can use Ichival to the same effect, thanks to allowing for a space between him and someone attacking from 1 range to share Dragon support or a Heron refresh or some other such thing. It’s like… they finally realized what a mediocre class Snipers were beforehand due to their limitations before FE10, and Shinon got all sorts of boosts thanks to the class buff as a result. I’m not going to give the Double Bow too much value since you DO only have it for Endgame, but that thing IS the best bow EVER, also. And Shinon is the best candidate for it objectively speaking.

Worst: Going with Ronan for now.

In a rush, so I'll add reasoning later (and might possibly change my vote for worst)
