Lin frowned, "Kaito and Shiro are here... Ura I know isn't here. Feng, Ryu and Naida should have been heading to Aliya's by now, and knowing Miyu she's probably with Aragost."
Which summed up everyone as far as she knew, no one else needed to come here.
"That's it.... let's go tell Elrohir just in case, because I can't imagine who would be watching the ranch and not coming here."

Earendil nodded. "It makes me a bit nervous," he had to admit. "Come on, Elberon, you'll have to show us where they were."
He nudged Miyuki towards the dining room. She could eat, he wouldn't bring her out for such an event. He had no idea if there would be any danger, but he wasn't going to take any chances.

"Can I come?" Miyuki asked even though she didn't understand what the big deal was.
Having been raised in more or less safe environments for most of her life.
"We need someone to make sure Senka doesn't beg for food, otherwise she's going to be a rolly poly," Lin explained.
Miyuki thought about it, and this had always been an issue with Senka, so it made sense, "Okay!"
She turned and headed into the dining room to bug her favourite animal in any world.

Earendil flashed Lin a grateful smile, then started after Miyuki. "We need to get Elrohir," he murmured.
Elrohir had already sat down to eat, but when he saw the group come into the room he put his fork down, noticing immediately the looks on their faces.
"What's wrong?" he asked anxiously.

"Elberon said he saw some people watching the ranch just beyond the treeline and, it's not anyone he recognizes and anyone who came with me from Gaia are already long time visitors and accounted for."
It sound be nothing, Elberon said he thought he saw, but elven sight was very good.
"So we're thinking it needs to be checked out just in case."

"No one ever died from being overcautious," Elrohir said, rising immediately from his seat. "Show me the way."
He led them to the hallway and plucked his sword from where it was hanging on the wall, and waited for Elberon to lead them outside.
Elberon quickly took the lead, ushering the three of them out into the night. It had begun to snow softly, just as Earendil had suspected it would, but that didn't slow them: the three elves made their way swiftly into the night, Earendil reaching for Lin's hand to make sure she didn't get left behind.

Lin had to pick up her pace until she was walking briskly after the elves. Fortunately snow wise it wasn't very deep, which made it much easier for her to keep up with them. Still, she took Earendil's hand, knowing how quickly the others were able to make their way.

Elberon led them quickly into the forest, and sure enough there were some tracks.
"Let's go," Elrohir said briskly, already starting off after them. "They can't have gone far."
Earendil kept running next to Lin. "If something happens, promise me you'll stay back," he murmured to her as they ran. He was pretty sure she didn't have any weapons on her, they hadn't needed any here in decades.

The first reaction Lin had, was to utterly protest. She had not spent most of her life training to just simply stand there. However, Lin was also aware she didn't have her weapons on her, it was one of those adjustments she had made back when Miyuki was younger and had not re-adjusted to the fact Miyuki was now old enough for Lin to not worry as much about her blades while in the presence of small children.
"I promise," she finally replied.

Earendil squeezed her hand tightly as they continued to run through the trees.
Just up ahead of them, two tall golden haired figures had hidden themselves behind trees. One of them, hair long and braided, was holding an infant; the other, hair short, was holding a bow, ready to defend their small group.
"Up there!" Elberon pointed to Elrohir where the tree shadows were thicker than they should have been.

Lin looked up ahead trying to make out the figures, it didn't help it was night, and snowing. She thought, she saw one of them holding something, but otherwise she couldn't quite make out who these people were.

The group slowed down, more cautious now that it seemed the trespassers weren't going anywhere.
"Show yourselves!" Elrohir called out, holding his sword defensively.
The one with the short hair stepped out, bow raised and aimed at Elrohir. It was an elf, a bit taller than Elrohir, a scar down one cheek. He seemed angry, for some reason, instead of afraid or trapped.
Something, Earendil mused, was off.

Lin tensed up, whatever reaction she was expecting it was not that angry look. Especially not from people who were near a ranch out in the middle of nowhere. While keeping an eye on the man, she tried to see the second figure she knew that had to be there.

The second figure was keeping hidden, and when the man who had showed himself saw that Lin was trying to see his partner his eyes narrowed even further. "Who are you?" he demanded harshly in Common Elvish. "What are you doing here? What have you done?"
Elrohir blinked in surprise, and he lowered his sword ever so slightly. "I - we? What? You're the one who's sneaking around our home! Who are YOU?"

Did these people live here at one point Lin wondered curiously. She knew at the valley where Ulrich and Ulani lived hadn't always been so empty though it wasn't empty now.
"I'm afraid I do not understand, we have done nothing but live here," she was quite confused by his reaction.
