For control Aberrants (such as those with control over elemental forces), the difference between Alpha and Beta is degree. Cal could always generate water - he just couldn't generate much, and he couldn't do it consistently. His rage at Liz's betrayal combined with his father's training pushed him past the Beta level, allowing him to generate large quantities of water while also manipulating it (shaping and freezing it, for instance).
The difference between Alpha and Beta is highly subjective, really.

Gendou The difference between Alpha and Beta is highly subjective, really. What would the difference be between a teleport alpha and a beta? Ease of use? Being able to send more than oneself? Or is it distance? Or could it be any/all of those?

I turn Cal's drink to poison now kthx. scream
Seriously, you thought that was weak? The only big problem I noticed was, as Calmer said, the placement of the Dave/Marty sequence. Other than that, this was one of the best chapters in weeks. (Or maybe I'm just biased from not having a new chapter to read in so long. I seriously came to the guild and was like OMG THE STORY IS BAAACK whee )

Romuel And boy, Kij is gonna be mad... I refrain from commenting, though I'm not terribly surprised. 3nodding Gen writes Ian entirely too well.

I'm inclined to give my overly thought-out analysis on Clark and Pretntiss' relationship, but that'd just be narcissistic. I'm particularly intrigued by that aspect (weighty s**t, a teacher in her 30's sleeping with her 17-year-old student) and maybe moreso by Cal's duel with Weston. Potentially very explosive.
...Is Prentiss a plant? I'm inclined to believe that he's not actually a student.

That, sir, is awesome. And gives a lot of insight. It reveals for a fact that there's not just the alphas and betas, but each of these is split into groups. It makes me wonder how the lines will be drawn, if something goes down.
Also, the spy. Why place a spy among your own students? What could you learn? Perhaps friendships, spread rumors, but what good is that, among children? Or is it looking for the things the children hide from the teachers? Secret practice, tendencies, plots? That's something I'd like to know.

I've missed reading the story, this has been a real treat. You do such a great job writing from particular perspectives and demeaners - like the scene with Amy comforting Liz. Inane high-school girl-babble to the T.
Also, Rene's thing with fish is getting very disturbing now. Sixty eels in the mouth? Guh!
Can't wait for more. cool

Now we witness the backlash. Everyone's splitting along the fault line that is Cal. His father and the movement are going to be pushed into action, the teachers are soon to be divided, not to mention Cal and Weston's upcoming discussion. It's all up to Cal now, and the decisions he makes on the edge of the perpetual powder keg that is this institute.

Gendou It also seems that I don't have remotely enough room in this thread to finish the story. I'm not exactly sure what to do at this point, but it's something I need to address really damned quickly. For the short-term, it looks like you can move everything up at least three posts, if you get rid of the Links post and the two Information posts, as all three are completely unused at the moment. You might be able to - temporarily - get rid of a couple other posts as well. At the very least, the second post for the Profiles section. If it gets down to it, you can probably transfer all of those sections to your journal or something similar - and just have a link to it at the top - and leave the front page almost exclusively for the story.

And if your journal does not appeal to you, Deviant art my do just as well. EEeeeeagh. I just want to hug one of them. But I'm not sure which. That's what makes your stories wonderful. You take very plausible situations, and expand of them to suit the needs of your writing and of the charactors' skills. Rock on.

*basks in the glory that is chapter twenty-five*
Dang. Ian's older than I'd thought. I probably should have figured it out when his "accident" was placed in 2013. If Laura's in on the Aberrant superiority movement, I wonder who she's got him spying on? And why. I'm also kinda wondering if she's the only one he's reporting to.
Is there old blood between Hobson Murdoch and Alex Roth? Susan Murdoch seems like an odd sort to be advocating any kind of superiority movement, but I suppose it takes all types. And with only two lines, it's hard to get much of a read on her character. I suppose it does say something that she let Hobson go on the offensive, and something else that she didn't step in on either side.
Mitsumi's tardiness is strange. Not only because the students say that it is, but she wasn't involved in any of the preceeding events. What's she off doing, if anything?
The Betas like Weston better! Aero Alpha for homecoming king!
Cal and Weston are going to have a serious talk, soon enough. These two are polar opposites; one's high and mighty, the other fairly laid-back. This could escalate fairly quickly, or it could end up relatively peacefully. I suppose it depends on how well Cal takes to his reclassification - will it soothe his perpetual inferiority complex, or fuel his beliefs?
