Elnara was still staring thoughtfully at the game when Lore returned. So far she had not yet seen any way for her to even have a chance of beating him ... but she did see how, if he played correctly, he could win against her in only a few short moves.

"Is she settling in all right?" she asked, looking up momentarily from the board and shuffling her feet, trying to make them more comfortable.

"She's already putting her books into the book shelf and asking if we would like something warm for lunch," Lore chuckled as he sat down across from her.

It was going to be strange having someone in the house again, stranger that it was someone who was going to be helping them with everything.

Elnara laughed and moved one magician forward.

"Why doesn't that surprise me?" she giggled. "But I have to admit ... I'm grateful. It didn't even take very long, cleaning her room ... but I couldn't believe how tired I was afterwards. I know winter has begun, and I know that it's normal to be tired when you're pregnant ... but I still can't help but wonder if it's natural to be this tired this early on."

After all, halfway was fairly early ... ish.

Lore eyed Elnara's very large round belly.... though he figured it was normal enough. What with the baby being in there and all. Moving a piece to set a trap he nodded slowly.

"Well... to be fair... with a baby in your belly you might not be getting a full night's rest as you think you are, you could be awake at different moments in the night without being fully aware of it, and you have extra weight to carry around in you front no less... and over all... I can see you being this tired early."

Well that and he could be wrong, but Elnara just seemed larger than he would have expected at this time.

Elnara lay one hand on her belly and eyed the board thoughtfully.

"Mother says that there are different ways that a woman can carry the baby," she replied softly. "Some women carry the baby more ... inside, so they don't seem so big ... others carry in front ... Mother says I'm carrying in front, so I seem bigger than I really am."

She knew her case was hopeless, but she tried moving her queen forward to break through Lore's trap nonetheless.

"Ulani says it could mean twins," she added, "but she also says she's never had any, so she doesn't know. Mother doesn't agree. She's had twins, she's seen others have twins ..."

She smiled faintly. "She thinks it means it's going to be a boy ... though I know there's no way to know until they're born."

"Well it's a bit early to tell if it's twins are not," Lore murmured though he wondered if he should listen more carefully to her stomach...

When Elnara mentioned it he remembered the twins ran in Elnara's family.

"And it could be possible, your family tends to have them...." he murmured.

Well except Serenity wasn't an Aldrich by blood and still ended up having twins, so he wasn't sure if it ran in Serenity's family too or if it was just a fluke. The trap was sprung and Lore made his move.

"Well... only time will tell."

"Indeed," Elnara frowned as Lore moved. "That's checkmate in two moves, no matter what I do," she murmured softly, leaning forward slightly to look at the board. "I don't see any way out of this one ..."

She rubbed her temple massagingly and sighed. "But you're right," she murmured, "twins have run in the Aldrich family for as long as I know of ... identical twins, I must add. Father and Uncle Riordan ... my brothers, Ruel and Riordan ... and Ulani has identical twin nephews, Phelan and Dayel ... I've never met them, but it's always funny to listen to her stories about them."

She smiled faintly up at Lore. "I give up," she laughed softly. "There is no way for me to get out of this one."

Lore smiled softly, "Very well then."

He wonder if that made Aliya's children a bit of a fluke in itself.. twins but not indentical. He filed the information away, he couldn't help it. Genetics was a bit part of his research, which was why he always made odd observations like that.

"That was a good game," he murmured.

"It was the longest I've lasted without losing horribly," Elnara smiled, leaning back in her chair and stretching her arms, "except when playing against the children."

She paused.

"Most of them," she amended. "Shiro gets me every time ... in less than three minutes."
PostPosted: Wed Oct 01, 2008 8:10 pm

"Shiro... is a special case," Lore replied amused by that, "He has excellent memory, recall and understanding, and since I'm pretty sure he's nearly read every book in the library he probably has looked at books about chess as well... the ones that have puzzles in them where you have to move in a certain amount of given moves are very useful to building chess skills."

Besides Shiro was something else anyhow.

"You're forgetting one other matter," Elnara giggled. "He's just a genius, however you look at it. And I'm not sure, but every once in a while ... I can't help but wonder if Kaito might be like him, but ... more subtly."

She began to move the pieces back to their starting positions, handing Lore back the pieces she had captured of his.

"Perhaps I should try reading some of those books," she smiled softly.
PostPosted: Wed Oct 01, 2008 8:17 pm

"I'm not forgetting.. those are qualities that make him a genius," Lore chuckled a bit.

Though how he did it.... Lore would probably never really know. He set everything back in their place.

"As for Kaito... you've noticed too hmm? It's hard to tell what goes through his head anymore.... he's still Kaito in some ways, did you hear about the game of tag the children had after the wedding party?"

Elnara giggled. "Apparently Kaito blends well with the marble of the castle," she laughed. "He's so white no one could see him lying there, even when they were right next to him!"

And of course, hiding behind his enormous wings was no help.

"I think he ended up staying out all night as well," she smiled as she placed her final piece and looked up at Lore.

"Yes... and still bright eyed and active... minus cat naps of course," Lore chuckled, "Much to the annoyance of the very few who attempted to out last him."

Honestly he thought doing that was a lost cause.

Elnara laughed.

"Somehow, I doubt that's even possible," she giggled. "He's always got so much energy ... even now that he's grown so big ..."

And unless she was mistaken, he hadn't finished growing yet ... or Shiro, for that matter. She had no idea about Ura.
