The drowess flinched at his touch, power slithering like a wraith over her skin. The world hurtled past, an all-too-familiar feeling of being lurched into space until at long last, they arrived in the bowels of Qu'ellar Druu'giir. Val'atar was particularly fond of this form of travel. Serethiel recalled nearly vomiting on his shoes after her encounter with the cave witch, Vierdah. Like a fearful child, she shut her eyes, waiting for the worst to pass as he spoke to what remained of his guard.
Only minutes, and he'd already subjected her to her least favourite activity. Serethiel expected the worst for their reunion.
The nausea of teleportation sent her reeling awkwardly towards him. She yelped in surprise as her face met fabric and shrank back apologetically at the answering sneer.
"I am Ilharn Val'atar Druu'giir," He said to his minions, "chosen of Vhaeraun.. lord of this city. Make ready the barracks for inspection and see that all soldiers are at hand.. soon we will be going out to settle a few scores Commander. Serethiel, you will follow me.. if you remember the way."
Her place right now was obedience. Serethiel decided wisely, at present, that words were perhaps not the most intelligent way to reply. Soon enough, he would undoubtedly have questions. They would undoubtedly be unpleasant.

Ascending with the aid of his magic, Val'atar triggers the sigil and purplish light engulfs him as the sensation of falling sweeps him off to another location. As quickly as it had come, the sensation was gone and he finds herself standing on a similar portal circle on the stone floor of the receiving chamber within his hanging fortress. Casting his gaze around slowly, he spots the bodies of several dead guards. Not all it seemed had abandoned their posts. Moving towards them, his hand reaches out and from a deep part of his mind a spell is called forth.
A cold wind rustles the bodies of the dead guards as their souls are dragged back from beyond, made to serve once more. Moans and cries erupt from long withered throats, tremors and spasms shaking the dust from their bodies. Slowly, each soldier rises from his or her resting place and comes to attention, life flowing into their bodies with each passing moment until each is returned to full health. From a place beyond this plane, dark forms are summoned and erupt from Val'atar's skin and seek out each one a guard to inhabit. Now possessed, the soldiers turn their black pupil-less eyes towards their lord. He looks at the several within the chamber and nods slowly, them speaks.
"I have given you life where it was stolen from you. Serve me now, you who were so faithful to me in life and death.. you are my Shadowed Guard. Within each of you is a spirit from the dark, it will give you strength and power. You will need it to do my bidding. Now return to your posts and your duties."
Casting a glance to the sigil, Val'atar motions Serethiel to follow and leads her out of the chamber and up the spiral stairs within the center of the hanging spire. Up several floors they walk until at last he exists at a particularly dark floor. One hallway leads from the stairs and leads to a magical door. Nearing it, he pauses and studies the arcane spell covering it, then reaches out and touches a spot, unraveling the spell before pushing the door open. Had he not taken the time to undo the spell, when he opened the door, a gout of flame would have engulfed him as he entered the room. Safely he passes within and motions Serethiel to follow. Waiting until she had passed, he closes the door, resetting the spell before he turns and strides to a large mirror along one wall. Gazing into it, he regards her behind him for several long minutes before speaking to her. His tone remains neutral, his voice deep and rich, stronger than it had been before his return.
"I have been gone for some time kitrye vlos, what have you been doing in my absence? My allies lay dead or gone.. the temple has withered and none stand to fight Lolth along side my Lord. What of my consort or my pets? I have returned to life from the clutch of death itself and I find everything has fallen to ruin.. while you hide in the guise of an old crone.
Why?"

Serethiel watched in horror as the shrunken corpses stirred awake. His to command, even in death. She shuddered, praying she would never meet the same cruel end.
In the chamber, his silence seemed to drag on for an eternity.
Finally, he spoke.
Why?"
She inhaled deeply, bowing her head. Her hands trembled. "I do not expect pardon for my actions, Ilharn. In your absence, I held the keys to the sigil, your upper fortress. The catalyst for power. Many wished to claim Au Shinduago in the ensuing war."
Serethiel paused, thumbing the brooch she spoke of on her piwafwi. "I am an assassin, Lord Val'atar, not a warrior. My life, my knowledge-- these keys... would have been easy prey for the vast numbers that sought your throne. I sensed your return, though few would have it from the mouth of a half-breed... I was powerless. And so, by the grace of Vhaeraun, I hid... I watched your kingdom descend into chaos... And waited."
Her eyes flicked nervously to him, following the curve of his jaw to the necklace he wore over his tunic. One of those gems was the captain of his guard. She swallowed. Forgiveness is for the weak and foolish. I will remember your failure until the moment I see you dead. "As for your consort, My Lady had long conspired with the serpent, Reivan. I do not know her whereabouts. The others, to my knowledge.. dead."
Her eyes closed. "Much I have seen as the eyes of the city. There are still some who would hail your return. You know that I amoung them am yours to command."
Serethiel was quiet. Again, her heart hammered furiously as her fate hung on the balance of her words.

Allowing her to speak, he waits for her to finish her explanation then slowly turns towards her, eyes narrowed. His clawed hand reaches up to absently toy with his necklace while he considers her testimony.
Several agonizing minutes pass with him just staring at her silently, then without warning he steps closer to her and grasps her by her neck, lifting her off her feet to dangle while he looks deeply into her eyes. Reaching into her mind, he tears through her memories to ascertain if she spoke the truth. Satisfied, he drops her to a heap and returns to his place at the mirror, contemplating his next move.
He had seemed to have forgotten her, for he said nothing, nor even looked at her while plans and plots twisted about his mind. Several times he started to turn, but then stopped as a crack in the plan was found. At last, perhaps half a turning later.. he swivels to face Serethiel. His face is set, emotionless as always, but his eyes are different. No longer crimson, the irises are golden and slitted like a beast. Tilting his head ever so slightly, he speaks in that husky, lust filled powerful voice.
"You say you watched and waited.. that you are mine to command, you claim to serve me, then I will give you a chance to prove it. You will tell me all you have seen, who went where and with whom. Which houses failed me first, which Matrons abandoned me and which hung on if any. Your words will damn or save these wretches. Of the new houses that have risen, you will explain their ways and their numbers. I do hope you paid attention during your time spent watching and hiding.
Also, two tasks I set for you.. First you will find Revian if he lives and bring him to me. If he conspired with my consort then I have questions for him. If he is dead then I want his corpse, he will answer my questions one way or another.
Secondly you will find those who might still support me and bring them my words. You will tell them that all is not lost. I bear them no ill will, nor blame. Each will be restored now that I am risen to power once more.
Succeed in these things and your debt is paid, you will be restored to your place as my blade. Use what money you need, kill whom you must and torture any who stand in your way..
Fail me however.. and I will have to find another to inhabit your body. Something more faithful perhaps.. to possess you and make you obedient. Of coarse that would be after you have succumb to my tender ministrations within my chamber of screams. "
A slow evil smile spreads across his face, lifting his dark lips from unnaturally sharp teeth within. Golden light fades to pale green as he thinks of the torments and pleasures he could inflict on her frail, tender body. Then just as he began to slowly reach out a clawed hand towards her, his eyes snap back to crimson and he snatches his hand back, his smile falling away like water from a mirror. Turning, he touches the mirror before him and speaks a word in abyssal. Instantly it dissolves, leaving another doorway to what looks like an alleyway within the peasant district given the smell wafting from without. He motions her towards it with his hand, then waits.

Her mouth agape in a silent gasp, the half-elf squirmed against her Ilharn's grasp, helplessly groping at his hands with her own while her mind was forcefully pried of thought. Every neuron screamed in pain. Do not resist it... she told herself, meeting his bright jewels with her mismatched stare.
Do not resist.
Released, she fell to the ground, sobbing and clutching her pounding head. She nearly vomited. As the Ilharn of Qu'ellar Druu'giir plotted, Serethiel panted. The power Vierdah had granted him could easily do lasting harm. Her nerves stung like needles, then went numb. Tremors racked her body. After what seemed like hours, she was able to kneel.
Inclining her head ever so slightly, she listened carefully to his words, on which her life now depended.
"Some answers I can give you now..." Her voice was a strangled whisper, "Oussana. Devout Vhaeraunites. They will serve you well." She caught her breath, rising off the floor.
"Reivan is dead, though I know of two agents. Deghym, Hlairyn... They are your allies, for now--... But Aleanrae-- Traitors! All of them.." A fist clenched at her side. "The houses you had known before your absence have dispersed or been destroyed. Their inhabitants now wander... Valthier amoung them." Fist on her chest, she made a weak salute, finally standing straight.
Shying from his outstretched hand, Serethiel knew there was truth to her master's threats. She looked to the portal. In a wordless exchange, the half-drowess bowed, and stepped towards the portal. "Master..." Her face was grave. "The Witch will seek you when she hears of your return..." A sudden air of cautious concern struck her voice. "Shadows keep you."
Without a second thought, the assassin of Qu'ellar Druu'giir stepped through the door, plunged once again into her life of servitude.

Watching her pass through the mirror portal, his clawed hand snakes out and grasps her upper arm once she was through. Turning her towards him, he looks deeply into her eyes for a moment, projecting a feeling of amorous desire and well being into her mind. His other hand reaches out and opens palm up, exposing a small black ring.
"Now that you serve me once more my lovely, I would like to see that you are not slain while accomplishing my bidding. Take this ring, have you need of me to save you, speak my name and kiss the ring. I will know where you are and hear your call. Only use it however if your life is in peril. "
Loosing her arm, he lifts her hand and tips the ring into it, then steps back beyond the portal. He watches her for a long moment, then abruptly the portal vanishes and there is nothing but an archway between two buildings.

As the portal closes and the mirror reappears, Val'atar turns and walks to the door, releasing the magic that guarded it, he steps outside, then replaces the spells once more. moving quietly he stalks down the stairs to the receiving chamber, gathering several soldiers on his way.Posting them about the room, he steps onto the sigil and activates it, Feeling the lurch and then the return, he steps out and nods in passing to the guards in the lower estate.
"Be ready for inspection as soon as I return."
One of the guards steps forward and offers to accompany their lord on whatever journey he was about to partake, but Val'atar waves them away and strides out of the estate and to the gate beyond. Passing through, he pauses to look around, then begins to head towards the location he had been given for the new drow houses.

noticing a march off from the other side of the building pass by, Valthier turned to face the procession. the Shadow'Guard, Val'atar's personal soldiers. was he in that procession?
the vampire growled at being ignored, but knew that weakened as he was he could not ever hope to survive expressing his irritation with oppsoition. he'd just have to bear it.
"come, Izzd. we follow them. no need to be discreet, nor threatening. hands at your sides, palms open, the entire way." he ordered, and turned on his heel to follow the lord of the city. Valthier had many questions, and certainly the half-demon would have answers, after all it was his city. this was his reasoning.
besides, who better to ally with in this new phase of his unlife?

A tiny feline made its way through the level of defenses surrounding the great house. Its exterior and interior were not strangers to it, as it padded along the corridors. Making sure to keep mostly out of sight the small creature made its way to stand before two massive doors. Scratching its paw upon the solidness of them, standing back as the doors popped open enough so that a smallish head could poke through.
Peering downward the imp caught sight of the feline and sneering at it only a moment before its eyes opened wide in recognition. "You take a great risk of being seen or caught." it spoke hastily in hushed tones, shutting the door quickly as the cat wandered inside.
Leaping up onto the massive bed and sliding up under the thin wispy veil of a curtain it curled up onto its side. Red eyes glaring at the imp as it lazily batted the tip of its tail back and forth. Stretching out its tiny paws in front of itself it laid down with a smug air about it.

With a great stretch Erelala awoke in her chambers. It had been quite some time and yet they were familiar to her as was her own body. Rising from the bed she glided across the room to don clothing for the day. Smooth hands ran down her stocking clad legs as she checked to make sure the garters were in place. With a delicatably wicked smirk she placed an amulet around her neck letting it nestle between her boosum.
There was much she had to do once more, things that she needed to tend to in town. The clicking of her boots echoed her thoughts as she walked out the great hall and once more toward the gates of her house.

Approaching the truly massive gates of the fortress house Eilov admired the deterrent, for while it was useless against a mage as skilled as he it would prove a difficult obstacle to any non-magical fighting force; even after getting through, to face a half demon lord in his own domain would be sheer suicide, funny as the thought was. Approaching a guard he reduced his weapons and lowered his offhand offensive magics, raising the defensive ones in return, flattening his palms he bowed at the waist. "Hello, my name is Eilov Rukanyyr. I have come to speak with a member of Qu'ellar Druu'giir about my joining."

The gates themselves shudder softly as if experiencing a quake, though the structure around them remains still. From their dark ebony face steps a tall, powerfully built creature with skin the color of the darkest holes of the depths. Twin horns spiral up from its head, while glowing red eyes stare down at the drow before it. Clawed feet carry this being closer, while talon tipped hands flare the magical cloak it wore out around its form as it stops just out of reach of the much smaller male.
"Eilov Rukanyyr, your unknown to those of this house, from whence do you come and with what purpose in mind?"

Bowing deeply before the impressive half demon, "My Lord Druu'Giir, I am from a humble house of no renown and my purpose is to serve; you if you will have me. I have great talent in the arcane art of the dead and seek to enter the ranks of your prestigious house, Lord Master of Au Shinduago, Patriarch of Qu'ellar Druu'Giir." Eilov did his best to keep his posture, hoping that the powerful half demon would not desire his death.

"You speak well for one born to an unknown house and you claim to know the necromantic arts, yet none can vouch for you, no skill have you shown and no reason do I have not to just blast you where you stand and assume you a spy or infiltrator."
A slow smirk creases his black lips as he splays his hands, dark energy oozing down his arms to crackle between his out spread fingers. On the verge of attack, he pauses, the energy fading away as he lowers his arms. A cautious look eases onto his features as he speaks once more.
"Eilov Rukanyyr, perhaps there is a way for you to prove your worth. A test of your skills, your value and your mind. If your up to it, I would have you slay a member of the assassins guild and replace him with an undead minion. You will then use it to spy on them and discover their location so that I might exert some control over these would be killers.
Succeed at this task and you may consider yourself a member of my house. How well you do during this assignment will deem if you join as a noble or commoner."

Turning to stride back inside the estate, Val'atar moves without fear, his steps calm and casual. As his first clawed foot pierces the dark gate, opening a shadowy portal, he glances back, feral red eyes locking onto the drow male.
"Eilov Rukanyyr, should you fail or refuse the task.. I will send my assassins to hunt you down. There will be nowhere in the depths you can run now that I know who you are."
Having said his peace, the large form of the Patron of Qu'ellar Druu'giir withdraws into the gate, vanishing from sight into its black stone face. The male drow is left outside with no company and only the words spoken to guide him on his task.
