Kilik pulled out his PokeNav and checked the date. June 29th. The boy scratched his nose and looked over at Mike. "You can go on to the store without me," he said, "I think training Lairon is my main priority. I think I'll shop later," though he wasn't quite sure what he would buy. Standing up and stretching a bit, Kilik ruffled Mike's hair. "I'm gonna fly over to Route 123, south of Mt. Pyre." He pointed in the direction of the mountain, but he knew Mike knew where he was talking about. After all, Mike was a home-grown Hoenn boy, too.
Walking out of the lobby and back into the bedroom, he cast a glance over at Sasha, then recalled the sleeping Elekid. The baby went in without even knowing it. Kilik returned to the lobby and waved over at Mike. "You and Sasha have fun. I'll see you too soon, neh?" he laughed and walked out the front door, tossing Flygon out of her Pokeball. She popped out, still sleeping. When Kilik's hand somewhat bonked her on the nose, she woke up instantly, looking around. Why was she out and why so early?
"C'mon," Kilik said, jumping onto his Flygon and clutching tightly, "We're off to Route 123 to train." And with that, he was up in the sky.

Torkoal let out a little squeak as the Golem launched an assault of rocks at it, pulling in its head and trying to hide. Several of the rocks smashed off of its hard shell and the tortoise grunted with each impact. When the barrage was finally through, the Fire-type emerged from its shell, spewing a large cloud of white smoke in anger. Flannery snapped her fingers and smiled. "Great idea Torkoal! Smokescreen! Make it as thick as you can!"
The tortoise continued to expel a great deal of smoke from its nostrils, and very soon the gym was filled with thick, opaque smoke. The Coal Pokemon easily disappeared within the smoky blanket, its size a great asset in this situation. Flannery continued to grin, even though the smoke burned her eyes something awful.
Kasiya hadn't been expecting a tactic like that (although she should have thought of it from the way Torkoal was smogging up the place earlier). She couldn't help but get a lungful of smoke in the process and she now was busy coughing in an attempt to get her lungs clear. Levi squirmed in the hot environment, not liking the smoke very much either. She hopped down off of the bench and kept low to the ground, barely able to see a thing. That Torkoal was pretty shifty!

The whole trip through Mnt. Moon wasn't that bad. Most of the people going through were just trying to get through at this time at night. Robin figured it would be a lot more difficult if she wasn't traveling with Ampersand. The mans strange aura just put all pokemon to sleep. It was hard to deny it if she didn't believe him before when she had to keep dodging Zubats and sometimes Geodudes that kept falling from the ceiling fast alseep. Though Luffy had been excited at first the caves unchanging scenery soon had the Aipom bored out of his mind. In order to try to counter act his boredom Robin just set him on the ground and told him to stay nearby.
Happy with something to do Luffy dashed about excited once more waving his flashlight around with his tail. So the trip continued, occasional screeches from Robin as she was almost hit or actually hit by one of the falling pokemon. It wasn't until around the end of the trip that things actually started to get somewhat interesting. Luffy had just spotted the exit and was sitting on the sign that welcomed them to Mnt. Moon when a small screech was heard.
"Oh what a cute little pokemon!" Suddenly arms wrapped around Luffy and pulled him into a tight hug. "Aren't you just the cutest thing? I think I will call you Fluffy. Oh you would be a perfect addition to my cute team!" The girl who was giving Luffy a hug was dressed rather strangely. She had a pink dress on that flared out to the sides with copious amounts of lace and ribbons. Her hair was pink as well and pulled into two curly pigtails.
Ampersand who arrived at the scene first, since he was leading the way stopped and raised an eyebrow at her before clearing his throat to get her attention. " I believe that pokemon belongs to someone else."
Looking up from where she was cuddling a struggling to get away Luffy her eyes got even wider. "Wow! I find a cute pokemon for my team and then a super cute trainer to! Today must be my lucky day!" She still hadn't let go of Luffy. At this comment Ampersand sighed and pulled his hat down lower on his face.
"Hey whats all this noise about?" Robin asked as she finally arrived on the scene. She seemed to get the picture though when she saw Luffy struggling around in the pink things arms. "Hey! Let go of my pokemon! Thief!"
Turning her gaze away from Ampersand the pink girl faced Robin and frowned. "Oh its just some ugly trainer. Such an uncute trainer like you doesn't deserve such a cute pokemon like Fluffy here." She turned away swinging Luffy around with her.
"You can't decide that!" Robin shouted at the pink thing.
"Who's to say I can't! I am just rescuing this pokemon from someone who isn't cute at all."
"Oh thats it!" Stomping off to the girl in pink Robin grabbed Luffy out of her arms. Free from being near the crazy girl Luffy scampered up Robin's arm and came to his favorite spot on her shoulder to glare at the other.
"Oh no Fluffy! How dare you take him away from me! I challenge you to a pokemon battle! Double battle!"
"Fine I accept! Someone needs to beat some manners into you!"
Seeing that this would take a while Ampersand backed away and sat himself down on one of the numerous rocks. He had been hoping to get out of here without a battle but it didn't seem like he would get his way. Holding back a yawn he hoped this wouldn't take to long since he was starting to get tired.

Mary-Anne woke up with a start, still half-way between a lovely dream filled with nonsensical things and reality. A very confusing reality, at that.
It was morning, although the sun was hidden behind a sea of gray clouds. Michael was up on his feet, very angry, shouting something at Jin, who sped off towards the horizon. The Bug-type disappeared in a flash. Mary-Anne was about to shrug it off and slip under her sleeping bag again, but wait, this scene didn't seem right. . . ?
Mary-Anne blinked. "Mmychuul?" She rubbed her eyes, trying to snap to awareness. "Whut huppened?"
"Get up, sis. We've a thief to catch," he said grimly, pulling her up less gently than usual. When M.A. stumbled over, he caught her, an apologetic look flashing through his eyes before it turned to pure anger again. "Let's go!" With that, he was off, following the already distant dot in the sky that was presumably Jin.
Mary-Anne took another second to comprehend it all before she recalled her yawning Pokemon around her and dashed off after him. Her legs were leaden with sleep, but she didn't lose too much more ground; she had been in track during elementary school and it showed.
Eventually, they could see Jin. He wasn't jetting forwards like a rocket anymore; instead, he seemed to be pestering something. On closer inspection, some hapless guy trying to balance himself on his motorcycle; he was swerving wildly though, thanks to Jin. It didn't help that he had a conspicuously bulging bag on his back. Then, the Masquerain dove down with a flash and slammed into the engine, knocking it out entirely. The thief screeched as his engine toppled over, nearly pinning the fella down under it.
As the him recovered and stood back up, Michael and M.A. came upon the scene, panting. Although a common bystander wouldn't have known better, the brunette could tell her older brother was absolutely livid; his fists were shaking, and although his face was composed as ever, his eyes might've gone Cyclops on them all.
"Give them back," he more or less said through heavy breathing, walking over to the person and catching him by the collar. "There's nothing more despicable than taking someone's Pokemon -- and judging from the bag yonder, you're causing quite a bit of pain to quite a number of people."
Oh! So that's what happened, M.A. said, brilliantly figuring out what was going on at last.

A crooked smirk appeared under the motorcycle helmet, and before Michael could guess what it could mean, he was on the ground, wheezing for air. A strange-looking, rock-like Pokemon had materialized stealthily from nowhere and tackled him over.
"Michael!" M.A. nearly screamed, running to her brother and taking a hold of his head and shoulders protectively. "Are you--"
"Goddamn, you worry like mom," he said breathlessly, coughing a little. Count on him to tease her now, of all times! "I'm fine, I'm fine," he said, smiling just a little to reassure the girl. "Nothing broken," he said, pushing himself up slowly, wincing a little on the way up. "Really, I'm fine!" he hissed again, when he caught the disbelieving look in her eyes. "Mary-Anne, pay attention to the woman! She's making off!"
He rarely used her real name, and its application caused her to get serious. Woman? What woman? Oh, the thief! Right, now that they were closer and she had shed her trench coat, it was easy to see that the tightly-clothed figure was female. It was even easier to see that she and her rock thing were trying to sneak away, only freezing when M.A. yelled a "Hey!"
With a sigh, the woman took spun around, glaring daggers. "Fine, I see I can't leave without beating the /both/ of you down." She removed her bike helmet, revealing a face with too much make-up on and shaggy, short hair. On her mid-drift-baring shirt, there was a large red 'R,' though M.A. could never guess what that meant.
M.A.'s anger flared. Hers was the type that hardly ever got lit, but once it did... "Bring it," she snapped. How dare she ... she ... ugh!
"M.A.-" Michael said hesitatingly, having slowly made his way to his feet. His ribs ached from the impact still, and he still saw some stars - that rock had been real heavy! But other than that, he couldn't really complain of anything else, and Jin could easily take them on, likely.
"Don't worry Mikey," she said, turning around and flashing a smile. "I'll take care of this!" Her fingers fumbling, she took one of the Pokeballs at her side and released it; Tora materialized from the red light in a flash, roaring and rearing up a little. Ooh, a fight at last!
"Take care of me, will you?" The woman sneered. No way was she gonna be stopped by some little goodie-goodie nobody. If she could get this load to the Boss, maybe she'd get a promotion...
The girl bit her lip and pulled out her Pokenav. "Nosepass, the Compass Pokemon. Yadda-yadda-yadda," it continued in its digital voice, illustrating that it was a Rock-type. Well, okay, Tora would be okay with that, kinda... This would be long, though.
The brother sighed, slumping back down to lean against a tree to wait until the aching went away. Not his favorite way to start off the morning, that was for sure. But considering that the Nosepass /hadn't/ broken a rib or worse, it was safe to assume that it wasn't terribly strong. Or perhaps it'd be holding back. M.A. seemed pretty riled up for battle too, and it'd be good experience for her. But if this got out of hand...
Michael whispered something to Jin, who nodded and quietly moved to accomplish its mission. Meanwhile, a text message to the local authorities would bring someone here soon, hopefully. Do cops text?

Keegan cheered silently to himself with each rock that made contact with Torkoal. It wasn't that he wanted to hurt his childhood friend's Pokemon, it was just that he knew with each attack landed, he was that much closer to claiming his Heat Badge. When the tortoise's Smokescreen filled the room Keegan found himself coughing as well as unable to see anything, and his eyes were burning and watering as well. Another wave of dizziness swept over him and he dropped to one knee, thankful for the smoke that was obscuring everything including this moment of what he dubbed as 'weakness.' He shut his eyes, hoping to stop the world from spinning as he thought of something for Tierra to do while the smoke was still thick. "Tierra," he called out, hating the weakness that had crept into his voice, "use Defense Curl! Protect yourself..." he said, coughing a little.
The Golem felt uneasy and very vulnerable within the veil of smoke, and she did as told, curling herself into a ball and concealing her weak spots as best she could. Even though no one could see her a steely-grey sheen had covered her body for moment, denoting the boost in her defensive power. Keegan took a slow deep breath and decided it would be best to avoid standing for the time being. "We can do this!" he shouted, more to reassure himself than the Golem.

Kasiya felt a surge of panic rush through her when she heard Keegan's voice, and right away she could tell something wasn't right. She'd stood up and was peering through the smoke, trying to spot the redhead. She didn't say anything though, as she knew Keegan wouldn't want her interfering, especially during such an important battle. I hope he's all right, she thought, continuing to watch closely.
"Torkoal, use Fire Spin!" Flannery commanded, also having heard the change in Keegan's voice. She knew it was not unlike him to keep things to himself, especially when his own health and safety were concerned. All she could do was continue to fight back and let him make his own choices about his well-being.
Torkoal reared back and let loose a stream of fire that coiled about like a fiery serpent, hoping to trap the Golem within the flaming vortex. The gym leader wiped the sweat from her brow with the back of her hand and stared into the smoky, fiery haze. Even she couldn't predict how the battle would turn out.

Keegan groaned audibly when the Fire Spin engulfed his Pokemon, finding it harder and harder to breathe as the already humid gym suddenly seemed to get even hotter. He felt tired and light-headed, and after a moment of thought he realized that heat exhaustion was starting to settle into him, which would probably lead to heat stroke later in the evening. He scolded himself for not bringing water with him and stood up weakly, realizing he'd hardly had any water at all over the last few days, relying heavily on juices, soda and coffee for beverages. Damn, lack of water really catches up to you, he thought, a lopsided grin etched on his face.
"Okay Tierra, we may not be able to see a thing, but that won't matter for this attack!" He clenched a fist and squinted in the smoke. "It's time to get serious! Earthquake!" Now he wasn't sure if Tierra actually knew Earthquake yet or if it had just been a maximum-power Magnitude, but he knew at the very least that if he failed here, he could always challenge Flannery again (and with more water in his system). He couldn't see her, but Tierra had grinned devilishly when she heard the command, and the Golem used her powerful legs to jump up into the air. She came down hard on the ground, causing the floor to tremble and shake as the Earthquake attack tore through the ground, sending gravel and dirt everywhere.

"Not that... my poor gym!" Flannery squeaked, closing her eyes and bracing herself as the gym trembled and shook from the intensity of the attack. When her Pokemon used Earthquake, she had taught them to use it in such a way that it wouldn't demolish the gym. Challengers, however, weren't so skilled. When it was over, the smoke was starting to clear, and little Torkoal was hunkered down inside his shell, little wisps of smoke puffing from the holes. Great cracks decorated the floor, and Flannery sighed at the sight of it. She was glad to see her Pokemon still moving around, but she knew that even with his defense raised it must have still been an intense hit.
I think we're finished, she thought with a chuckle, shaking her head as her red bangs fell down in front of her face. "If we're going down, it's out with a bang! Torkoal, Overheat!"
The small Pokemon emerged from his shell, the flames already jetting out from the coals set deep within its shell. A massive amount of fire then proceeded to spill from the Torkoal's mouth and shell, quickly pushing the remaining smoke up to the ceiling with the intense heat they gave off. "That's the way," the fiery gym leader grinned, nodding in approval.
Again Kasiya had to step back as the ferocious Fire-attack ripped through the air, engulfing everything in its path. She finally managed to see Keegan though, and even from there she could tell something was wrong. Normally he would stand tall and proud during a battle, but here he was, struggling to stand up. Her heart pounded fearfully in her chest and she looked towards Tierra and Torkoal, wondering which Pokemon would succumb to fainting first.

The Overheat was almost too much for Keegan to bear, let alone Tierra. The redhead let out a shout as it felt almost like he himself were catching on fire. He peered at Tierra, still standing strong against the powerful flames. "Finish..." he mumbled, the world swaying all around him. "Rock.... Smash..." he managed to half-shout, beads of sweat trickling down his forehead and face. Gah... I feel terrible... he thought, almost beginning to panic at how quickly the onset of the heatstroke had set in.
He didn't even see the Golem dash forward, fists raised as she intended to pummel the Torkoal into submission. Keegan felt the ground rush up to meet him as he toppled over, unable to remain upright any longer. "Tierra..." he whispered, feeling sick to his stomach and chilled at the same time, despite the heat coming from all around him. The feeling of nausea only started to subside as the fatigue won him over, and everything around him faded to black.

It was over then. The final hit from the Golem was enough to take down Torkoal, and with a small smile Flannery recalled it. She'd just been bested by a second of her childhood friends, and again she didn't feel upset, just happy and proud. "Well that's it, you did it, Keegan," she said, looking up and expecting to see the victorious redhead dancing around with his Pokemon. But this wasn't the case as instead she saw him lying in a heap on the floor. "Keegan?!" she cried, leaping down from her podium and racing across the gym floor, careful to avoid the cracks in the ground. She passed a confused-looking Golem before arriving at Keegan's side. "Keegan... what happened? Talk to me!" Flannery looked around frantically, panic rising in her chest. She had no idea what to do, and she looked towards Kasiya, her eyes wide with fright. "Kassie! Help!"
Kasiya remained rooted to the spot as the battle ended, staring first at Tierra and then at the unconscious form of Keegan, her heart seemingly frozen in time. As time caught up with her and she finally understood what had happened, Kasiya steeled herself and walked briskly towards the scene, practically pushing Flannery aside as the frantic gym leader was no help. "Keegan?" she asked gently, touching his forehead and checking for a pulse, which she found with relative ease. It was there, but it was rapid and his breathing was rapid and shallow as well. "He's just fainted," she said, taking off her bandanna and gently dabbing his forehead and cheeks. "He's really warm though so I'm guessing it must be heat stroke or something," she said, looking up. "We need to get him out of the gym to some place cooler, and then some cool water into him when he wakes up."
Flannery just sat on the ground, blinking at Kasiya as though she had two heads. Obviously, the youthful gym leader had never had something like this happen before, otherwise she might have reacted better. She continued to stare blankly, unable to find any words to offer aid.
"Oh for Mew's sake," Kasiya grumbled, standing up and looking around. Her eyes came to rest on the Golem, and she snapped her fingers at the Pokemon. "Tierra! Your trainer needs help, but he's too heavy for me to carry. Do you think you're strong enough to get him out of here?"

The Golem eyed the girl carefully before nodding, and making her way over to her fallen trainer. She didn't understand; humans weren't supposed to faint during battle. As gently as she could she lifted Keegan from the ground and held him cradled in her arms, awaiting further instruction from Kasiya. There was a strange power that seemed to emanate from the girl, and Tierra could easily recognize that she was a fairly skilled trainer and would have no problems obeying her wihout question. Meanwhile, far from reality...
Keegan, or at the very least, a younger version of him, was walking through the town of Lavaridge of several years ago, before Flannery had become the official gym leader and her grandfather was still in charge. He carried a shopping bag full of groceries in one arm, using the oher to help keep his balance as he walked. The sun was starting to set on the horizion, and Keegan stopped to admire the way the light illuminated Mount Pyre. He had decided someday that he would step away from his secluded life here in Lavaridge and see the world, but he knew in his heart that he wasn't ready for a big adventure just yet. He had arrived at the door of his home and was about to enter and deliver the groceries to his mother when he heard the sound of someone coming up behind him. The redhead turned around to see his close friend running towards him, messy brown hair flying in all directions and a look of excitement and fear set in his face.
"Keegan, it's time, man. I need you here! I'm not gonna ask again!" the boy huffed, stooping over to catch his breath.
Keegan frowned and looked at the ground. "No," he said simply. "I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'm not getting myself mixed up in all of this. For one, it's too dangerous. And two, you don't know for sure what kind of insane lies Maxie might be filling your head with."
The other boy's fists clenched, and he shot a deadly glare towards Keegan. "Don't you dare use his name!" he shouted, but stopped himself, and continued to speak, his voice low. "You have no right-" but he stopped again, looking around almost frantically. "It's not lies, Keegan. We're doing this to save our homeland. Don't you want to help? Don't you want to be a hero? Do you even care?"
"Of course I care," Keegan returned, shifting the bag. "I..." he trailed off as words failed him, and he shook his head, brushing the stray red hair from his face. "This isn't right. None of this." His voice was barely above a whisper, and he sighed. "I'm not going, and neither should you." He looked up, determination set in his deep green eyes. "I mean it. If you go through with this, you'll regret it."
"Is that a threat?"
"No, it's the truth. Go if you want to, but I won't be there." He opened the door and stepped inside. "I'm sorry, Mike, but it's wrong. That's all there is to it." With that, he shut the door and set the bad down on the ground, leaning with his back against the door. Indistinctly he could hear his best friend shouting, but he couldn't make out a single word of what was being said. All he knew was that thanks to Team Magma and their idiocy, he was losing a friend.

After getting Tierra to carry Keegan outside, the two girls decided that it would be best to bring him home. Since Flannery knew his parents better, Kasiya took Keegan's Pokemon and would bring them to the Pokemon Center, so that he would have less to worry about when he regained consciousness again. As she stood at the counter of the Pokemon Center awaiting the return of all of their Pokemon, she couldn't help but wonder how long he'd been feeling the effects of heat exhaustion or whatever it was. If it had been her, she would have stopped the battle right then and there to make sure she was all right. But no, instead the stubborn redhead had to go and make her worry. She put her forehead down on the cool surface of the desk, staring at the tiled, linoleum floor in frustration. before long tears had started to fall, and she decided to let them, but just for now.
When all the Pokemon were healed, she gathered them up and headed back to Keegan's house, hoping he'd awoken so she could give him a good scolding for scaring her like that.

Needless to say, both of Keegan's parents were practically livid when Flannery and Kasiya showed up at their door, their only son being carried by an imposing-looking Golem. Between the four of them they managed to get the unconscious boy onto the sofa and remove a few more layers of clothing, including his shoes and socks and shirt as well. His mother, Maggie, got a silver bowl with cool water and dampened Keegan's forehead with a cloth while Todd hovered over them, surveying everything with a critical eye, rings of smoke puffing from his pipe every now and then. He'd raised an eyebrow as the two girls explained the situation and how they had come to the conclusion to bring him here, and then the younger girl had scampered off with the Pokemon, presumably headed for the Pokemon Center.
"Reckless," was all the man said, shaking his head as he studied his son. "How can he claim to be a good trainer if he can't even take care of himself?" He eyed Flannery for a moment before leaving the room, and a moment later the door could be heard shutting as he went outside to check on the many Pokemon kept safely in the large, spacious yard. Maggie just watched the scene quietly, fear reflected in her lovely green eyes. When the doorbell rang, she hurried to the door to let Kasiya in once more, and as the two came back into the room Keegan had opened his eyes and for the most part, had returned to a normal colour.
"Bloody hell..." he muttered, rubbing his head. "What happened?" He looked around in confusion, seeing his mother, Flannery and Kasiya all standing nearby. His head felt as though a Steelix were trying to burrow its way out, and he sat up slowly, feeling an odd chill run up his spine as he realized he was without a shirt. "Why am I here?"

"You're at home, stupid," Flannery said quickly, folding her arms across her chest and glaring at the redhead angrily. "You're at home because you fainted from heat stroke. Are you happy now that you've scared the crap out of us?" Flannery's tone was harsh, but there was obvious concern mixed with the anger on her face. "Drink some water," she said, pointing at the tall glass on the coffee table.
Kasiya didn't say anything right away, she just looked around the room, pretending to admire the furnishings. "But don't drink too much too fast," she cautioned. "Otherwise you'll be sick all over the place, and I can't handle that." She scratched her head and looked towards Keegan's mother, feeling sad and guilty that they had worried her. Tears were threatening to spill once again, and she sighed, looking back at Keegan. "Why didn't you say anything?" she asked finally, taking a step forward. "You weren't feeling well at all but why didn't you say something? Was it 'cause you'd think I thought you were weak or something? Remember what we talked about the other day, about sharing? That if we wanted this thing between us to work that we would have to tell each other these kind of things! Keegan..." she trailed off, still keeping her tears at bay, "I was so scared. I was so scared," she repeated, emphasizing it the second time. "So... scared." She sniffled a bit, and looked at the ground, jumping a little as Flannery rested her hand on the girl's shoulder.
"I had no idea you were scared," Flannery admitted after a moment or two. "You held it together pretty well in there, you know. Me? Well, I fell apart. I panicked when my friend was in trouble, but you were calm and you knew just what to do. That's something, Kass. Seriously." She turned her gaze to Keegan again, waiting for him to explain or say something, at least. Judging by the time and situation, though, Flannery knew that there would be no second battle tonight.
"Oh, that reminds me," she said, reaching into her pocket and walking over to Keegan. "You still won the battle, so here you go. Congratulations," she said, placing the shining, red Heat Badge in his palm. "I'm going to go and get the rest of your winnings, so for now bask in your win and relax." With that, she headed for the door and put her shoes on, nodding respectfully to Keegan's mother before heading outside.
