Say I wanted to join the Dragon Rider's roleplay. I would be jumping into a previously started and unfinished story right?
And what are the do's and don'ts of roleplaying?

Hey X...congrats and that is fine. Look around and read up on things to find out more.
Make a profile on the subforum called Character Profile. There is a thread called instructions for you do use as help.
